  • Oct 5, 2026Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks.CVE-2026-105786 · Other software · laurent22 · reported by GitHubHigh 8.5

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.13, packages/server/src/models/ApplicationModel.ts accepts a caller-chosen application authorization identifier, applications/:id/confirm binds that identifier to a logged-in user through a generic consent page, and the public packages/server/src/routes/api/application_auth.ts endpoint passes it to ApplicationModel.createAppPassword without authenticating or binding the redeemer. An attacker can cause a victim to approve the attacker's identifier, redeem a durable application ID and password, and exchange the credential for a victim session with full read and write access to synchronized data. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.7.13.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to Joplin Server 3.7.2, packages/server/src/models/TokenModel.ts stores CSRF, account-confirmation, email-change, and password-reset tokens without a purpose, and packages/server/src/models/UserModel.ts allows UserModel.resetPassword to accept any token returned by TokenModel.userFromToken. An attacker who obtains a victim's CSRF or confirmation token through a separate disclosure channel can submit it to the public password-reset endpoint, replace the victim's password, and cause the existing sessions and API applications to be deleted. This issue is fixed in Joplin Server 3.7.2.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.13, selecting a note containing a jsoncanvas fence causes the whiteboard text and file-node components in packages/app-desktop/gui/NoteEditor/NoteBody/WhiteboardEditor/nodes/TextNode.tsx and packages/app-desktop/gui/NoteEditor/NoteBody/WhiteboardEditor/nodes/FileNode.tsx to render card content with the full Markdown renderer. The components insert the resulting HTML into the main application document through dangerouslySetInnerHTML. A malicious note can inject style elements and remote CSS imports that modify trusted application chrome, signal when the note is opened, and potentially disclose exposed attribute values. Content Security Policy blocks inline script execution, so the supported impact is CSS injection and UI redressing rather than code execution. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.13.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.13, when Joplin Desktop is running with the opt-in Web Clipper server enabled, the server in packages/lib/ClipperServer.ts sends Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * and allows an arbitrary website to call POST /auth and GET /auth/check because the pairing endpoints do not reject HTTP or HTTPS origins. The desktop confirmation dialog does not identify the requesting origin, so a victim who approves the generic prompt authorizes the attacking page, which then receives the permanent API token. The token provides ongoing read and write access to notes, folders, tags, resources, and master keys. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.13.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.7, Joplin Server's ItemModel.checkIfAllowed() authorizes writes to items with a share ID when any share_users row exists for the caller, without requiring ShareUserStatus.Accepted. A low-privileged authenticated user with a pending folder-share invitation can create an item under the share ID, and ShareModel.updateSharedItems3() propagates the injected content to the owner and accepted participants before the attacker accepts the invitation. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.7.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.7, Joplin Server's GET /shares/:id?resource_id= route serves a resource with the attacker-controlled mime value and omits Content-Disposition when the resource title is empty. A low-privileged user can publish an empty-title image/svg+xml attachment whose script executes when a victim opens the public share. By default, user content shares the Joplin Server application origin, allowing the script to access same-origin data and, when the victim is authenticated, perform actions with the victim's session, including reading administrative data and anti-CSRF tokens. Installations that configure USER_CONTENT_BASE_URL to a separate origin still execute the script, but on that separate user-content origin rather than the application origin. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.7.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.2, Joplin Server's UserModel.ssoLogin() returns an existing account matched by an IdP-asserted email without checking the account's is_external flag. In deployments using mixed local and SAML authentication, an attacker whose IdP session can assert a local user's email can pass POST /api/saml, receive a session for that local account, and access or modify the victim's notes, files, and settings without knowing the local password. Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.2, isAcceptedUrl() in packages/renderer/htmlUtils.ts uses an unanchored regular expression for internal resource URLs, allowing a javascript: URL containing a matching 32-character path fragment to pass validation and be emitted into an HTML note's link. A low-privileged Joplin Server user can publish the crafted HTML note as a public share. In the current build, ordinary left-click is blocked; demonstrated execution requires middle-click or Open in new tab in an older or non-hardened browser because current Chrome and Firefox block javascript: new-tab navigation. When execution succeeds, the script runs in the Joplin Server origin, can read page-visible content, and can make authenticated same-origin requests when the victim is signed in. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.2.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.7, the GET /api/transcribe/:id and POST /api/transcribe/:id handlers in packages/server/src/routes/api/transcribe.ts on Joplin Server instances with TRANSCRIBE_ENABLED=true pass the decoded id directly into transcription backend URLs. An authenticated user can place URL-encoded slash and parent-directory segments in the job ID, causing parseSubPath() to decode a path that escapes the intended /transcribe/ prefix. The server then proxies the request to other transcription-backend endpoints and can return their responses, potentially exposing internal administrative, health, or configuration data. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.7.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.2, Joplin Server's GET /items/:id/content route in packages/server/src/routes/index/items.ts loads item content from an attacker-supplied internal server ID without checking whether the signed-in user owns or can access that item. Any authenticated user who obtains or guesses another user's item ID can read the corresponding note or item content when end-to-end encryption does not protect it. Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.6.15 and 3.7.2, packages/renderer/MdToHtml/rules/fountain.ts passes HTML generated by the vendored fountain.js renderer into note output without sanitizing it. A malicious Fountain code block can therefore execute script when Fountain rendering is enabled in desktop or mobile clients, or when a note is published through Joplin Server where Fountain rendering is enabled by default. The script can read content subsequently loaded in the reused note viewer or, when published notes are served from the same domain as server content, access data available to an authenticated browser in the server origin. This issue is fixed in versions 3.6.15 and 3.7.2.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.6.15 and 3.7.2, Joplin accepts synchronized resource metadata whose id or file_extension contains parent-directory or path-separator characters. BaseItem.unserialize() stores the unvalidated fields, resourceFilename() concatenates them into a destination path, and ResourceFetcher writes the attacker-controlled resource blob outside the resource directory during background synchronization. An attacker with write access to a configured sync target or shared notebook can create or overwrite files at an attacker-chosen existing path without user interaction. This issue is fixed in versions 3.6.15 and 3.7.2.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.2, Joplin Desktop for Windows omits publisherName from packages/app-desktop/package.json, so the generated app-update.yml causes NsisUpdater.verifySignature() to skip comparison of a downloaded update's Authenticode signer with Joplin's signer. An attacker who controls the update delivery path can replace the update metadata and installer, and the client accepts an installer signed by another publisher or left unsigned after the user approves installation. Successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code with the user's privileges and can compromise notes, credentials, and local data. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.2.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. From 1.4.0 until 3.7.2, packages/renderer/MdToHtml/rules/katex.ts enables KaTeX's trust option for note content, allowing a note author to place a \href URL into rendered output without passing Joplin's normal URL allowlist. On Windows, clicking a link whose target is an attacker-controlled UNC path causes pathExists() to initiate SMB authentication and disclose the current user's NTLMv2 challenge-response without a warning. The unfiltered URL can also invoke other registered URL handlers, but the credential disclosure through KaTeX \href is the distinguishing demonstrated impact. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.2.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Versions 3.5.2 and prior contain a logic error in the delta API that allows share recipients to download notes that are no longer shared with them, related to but not fully fixed by the prior patch in #14289. In ChangeModel.delta, when DELTA_INCLUDES_ITEMS is enabled (the default), the latest state of items is attached to delta output without verifying that those items are still shared with the requesting user, and the existing removal logic only filters items deleted for all users. Additionally, the change compression logic incorrectly reduces create - delete to NOOP, which is unsafe because compression is applied per page and an item can have multiple create events; if an earlier create falls on a separate page from a later create -> delete pair, the deletion is dropped and the sequence collapses to a create. As a result, the delta API returns a create event for a deleted item with the full latest content attached, exposing notes the user no longer has access to. This issue has been fixed in version 3.5.3.

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Versions 3.6.14 and prior contain a Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability in the title input functionality due to a lack of proper length validation. This flaw allows an attacker to cause an Out Of Memory (OOM) error and subsequent program termination by inserting an excessively long string into a note's title. This can be triggered either through direct user interface (UI) input or programmatically via the local web service API after compromising an authentication token. There are 2 primary methods of exploitation: via User Interface (UI) Input, and the Local Web Service API. A local user can directly type or paste an extremely long string into the title field when creating or editing a note Joplin runs a local web service (typically on port 41184) that allows programmatic interaction, such as creating or editing notes via HTTP API calls. If an attacker manages to exfiltrate or compromise the user's authentication token (e.g., through malware on the local system, or other local vulnerabilities), they can then send a crafted HTTP POST request to this local API. Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Versions prior to 3.5.7 contain a path traversal vulnerability in the importer which allows overwriting arbitrary files on disk. The OneNote converter does not sanitize the names of embedded files before writing them to disk. As a result, it's possible for an attacker to create a malicious .one file that includes file names containing ../../, that are then interpreted as part of the target path when extracting attachments from the .one file. This issue has been patched in version 3.5.7.

Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application, which can handle a large number of notes organised into notebooks. Prior to version 3.3.3, path traversal is possible in Joplin Server if static file path starts with `css/pluginAssets` or `js/pluginAssets`. The `findLocalFile` function in the `default route` calls `localFileFromUrl` to check for special `pluginAssets` paths. If the function returns a path, the result is returned directly, without checking for path traversal. The vulnerability allows attackers to read files outside the intended directories. Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application, which can handle a large number of notes organised into notebooks. This vulnerability is caused by adding note titles to the document using React's `dangerouslySetInnerHTML`, without first escaping HTML entities. Joplin lacks a Content-Security-Policy with a restrictive `script-src`. This allows arbitrary JavaScript execution via inline `onclick`/`onload` event handlers in unsanitized HTML. Additionally, Joplin's main window is created with `nodeIntegration` set to `true`, allowing arbitrary JavaScript execution to result in arbitrary code execution. Anyone who 1) receives notes from unknown sources and 2) uses <kbd>ctrl</kbd>-<kbd>p</kbd> to search is impacted. This issue has been addressed in version 3.1.24 and all users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.

Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application, which can handle a large number of notes organised into notebooks. This vulnerability is caused by differences between how Joplin's HTML sanitizer handles comments and how the browser handles comments. This affects both the Rich Text Editor and the Markdown viewer. However, unlike the Rich Text Editor, the Markdown viewer is `cross-origin isolated`, which prevents JavaScript from directly accessing functions/variables in the toplevel Joplin `window`. This issue is not present in Joplin 3.1.24 and may have been introduced in `9b50539`. This is an XSS vulnerability that impacts users that open untrusted notes in the Rich Text Editor. This vulnerability has been addressed in version 3.2.12 and all users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.

Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application. A Cross site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in affected versions allows clicking on an untrusted image link to execute arbitrary shell commands. The HTML sanitizer (`packages/renderer/htmlUtils.ts::sanitizeHtml`) preserves `<map>` `<area>` links. However, unlike `<a>` links, the `target` and `href` attributes are not removed. Additionally, because the note preview pane isn't sandboxed to prevent top navigation, links with `target` set to `_top` can replace the toplevel electron page. Because any toplevel electron page, with Joplin's setup, has access to `require` and can require node libraries, a malicious replacement toplevel page can import `child_process` and execute arbitrary shell commands. This issue has been fixed in commit 7c52c3e9a81a52ef1b42a951f9deb9d378d59b0f which is included in release version 2.12.8. Users are advised to upgrade. Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application. A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability allows pasting untrusted data into the rich text editor to execute arbitrary code. HTML pasted into the rich text editor is not sanitized (or not sanitized properly). As such, the `onload` attribute of pasted images can execute arbitrary code. Because the TinyMCE editor frame does not use the `sandbox` attribute, such scripts can access NodeJS's `require` through the `top` variable. From this, an attacker can run arbitrary commands. • Jun 21, 2024Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application.CVE-2023-37898 · Other software · laurent22 · reported by GitHubHigh 8.2

Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application. A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability allows an untrusted note opened in safe mode to execute arbitrary code. `packages/renderer/MarkupToHtml.ts` renders note content in safe mode by surrounding it with <pre> and </pre>, without escaping any interior HTML tags. Thus, an attacker can create a note that closes the opening <pre> tag, then includes HTML that runs JavaScript. Because the rendered markdown iframe has the same origin as the toplevel document and is not sandboxed, any scripts running in the preview iframe can access the top variable and, thus, access the toplevel NodeJS `require` function. `require` can then be used to import modules like fs or child_process and run arbitrary commands. This issue has been addressed in version 2.12.9 and all users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
