  • Sep 14, 2026gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust.CVE-2025-24890 · Other software · GitoxideLabs · reported by GitHubMedium 6.8

gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust. Prior to 0.13.3, the gix-sec crate on Windows incorrectly treats repositories controlled by another user as trusted when an administrator runs a dependent program with an unfiltered elevated token. In gix-sec/src/identity.rs, gix_sec::identity::is_path_owned_by_current_user obtains folder_owner and token_owner, but its administrator-specific IsWellKnownSid and CheckTokenMembership checks examine the running token rather than confirming the directory owner. This bypasses safe.directory-style protection for repositories owned and configured by a limited user, allowing repository configuration or hooks to execute commands with the administrator's privileges when an affected operation is performed. Exploitation requires Windows, an elevated administrator, a program that relies on gix-sec trust results, and interaction with a repository controlled by another user. An unelevated UAC process is not affected, and cloning is not affected because repository configuration and hooks are not copied. This issue is fixed in version 0.13.3.

gitoxide versions from 0.25.4 contain an HTTP credential leak vulnerability in the curl-based transport backend where credentials are sent to attacker-controlled servers after HTTP redirects. The vulnerability occurs because credential validation checks the original URL instead of the effective URL after redirect, allowing attackers to steal authentication tokens through cross-domain redirects or HTTPS-to-HTTP downgrades.

  • Aug 28, 2026gitoxide (Rust crates gix <= 0.72.0 and gix-validate <= 0.10.0) contains a path traversal vulnerability.CVE-2026-82253 · Other software · GitoxideLabs · reported by VulnCheckHigh 8.7

gitoxide (Rust crates gix <= 0.72.0 and gix-validate <= 0.10.0) contains a path traversal vulnerability. The submodule name validation function in gix-validate only checks the first occurrence of '..' via name.find(b".."), allowing crafted names such as 'a..b/../../../.git/' to bypass the check; additionally this validation is never invoked in production code paths. Combined with a trust inheritance flaw in Submodule::open(), where the parent repository's git_dir_trust (Trust::Full) is cloned and the ownership verification is skipped, an attacker can craft a malicious .gitmodules file so that a victim tool built on gitoxide reads arbitrary git repository configuration (including embedded credentials) with full trust, bypassing safe-directory protections. Fixed in gix 0.82.0 and gix-validate 0.11.1.

  • Aug 28, 2026gix-worktree-state before 0.33.0 (part of gitoxide) allows writing files outside the worktree on Windows.CVE-2026-82248 · Other software · GitoxideLabs · reported by VulnCheckMedium 6

gix-worktree-state before 0.33.0 (part of gitoxide) allows writing files outside the worktree on Windows. gix_worktree_state::checkout() follows an existing terminal symlink during non-exclusive (incremental) materialization (destination_is_initially_empty: false) when core.symlinks is true. If a symlink entry (mode 120000) is first checked out at a path P pointing outside the worktree, a subsequent incremental checkout of a regular-file entry (mode 100644) at the same path follows the existing reparse point and writes the blob content through the link, overwriting files outside the worktree.

gitoxide's gix-url crate (<= 0.32.0, fixed in 0.37.1) uses a hand-rolled URL parser that does not treat '?' or '#' as terminating the authority component, contrary to RFC 3986. As a consequence, gix-transport's HTTP redirect identity guard (can_reuse_identity) compares the wrong host and fails open. An attacker controlling a redirect response can craft a Location header of the form <attacker-authority>?@<original-authority> so that gitoxide sends the caller's HTTP Basic Authorization credentials to an unintended host. gix-transport is affected in versions <= 0.49.0 (fixed in 0.58.1).

  • May 13, 2026gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust.CVE-2026-44471 · Other software · GitoxideLabs · reported by GitHubHigh 7.8

gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust. Prior to 0.21.1, a malicious tree can be constructed that will, when checked out with gitoxide, permit writing an attacker-controlled symlink into any existing directory the user has write access to. During checkout, all symlink index entries are deferred and created after regular files using a single shared gix_worktree::Stack. Internally, this uses a gix_fs::Stack. gix_fs::Stack::make_relative_path_current() caches validated path prefixes: when the previously-processed leaf component exactly matches the leading component(s) of the next path, the leaf-to-directory transition at gix-fs/src/stack.rs invokes only delegate.push_directory(), never delegate.push(). In gix_worktree::stack::delegate::StackDelegate, when the state member is State::CreateDirectoryAndAttributesStack, Attributes::push_directory() only loads attributes (from the ODB, in the clone case), and does not perform any other checks. The on-disk symlink_metadata() check and unlink-on-collision live in StackDelegate::push()'s invocation of create_leading_directory(), which is therefore bypassed for the cached prefix. The final symlink is created with plain std::os::u

  • Apr 4, 2025gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust.CVE-2025-31130 · Other software · GitoxideLabs · reported by GitHubMedium 6.8

gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust. Before 0.42.0, gitoxide uses SHA-1 hash implementations without any collision detection, leaving it vulnerable to hash collision attacks. gitoxide uses the sha1_smol or sha1 crate, both of which implement standard SHA-1 without any mitigations for collision attacks. This means that two distinct Git objects with colliding SHA-1 hashes would break the Git object model and integrity checks when used with gitoxide. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.42.0.

gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust. Prior to 0.17.0, gix-worktree-state specifies 0777 permissions when checking out executable files, intending that the umask will restrict them appropriately. But one of the strategies it uses to set permissions is not subject to the umask. This causes files in a repository to be world-writable in some situations. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.17.0.

  • Sep 6, 2024`gix-path` is a crate of the `gitoxide` project (an implementation of `git` written in Rust) dealing paths and their conversions.CVE-2024-45405 · Other software · Byron · reported by GitHubMedium 6

`gix-path` is a crate of the `gitoxide` project (an implementation of `git` written in Rust) dealing paths and their conversions. Prior to version 0.10.11, `gix-path` runs `git` to find the path of a configuration file associated with the `git` installation, but improperly resolves paths containing unusual or non-ASCII characters, in rare cases enabling a local attacker to inject configuration leading to code execution. Version 0.10.11 contains a patch for the issue. In `gix_path::env`, the underlying implementation of the `installation_config` and `installation_config_prefix` functions calls `git config -l --show-origin` to find the path of a file to treat as belonging to the `git` installation. Affected versions of `gix-path` do not pass `-z`/`--null` to cause `git` to report literal paths. Instead, to cover the occasional case that `git` outputs a quoted path, they attempt to parse the path by stripping the quotation marks. The problem is that, when a path is quoted, it may change in substantial ways beyond the concatenation of quotation marks. If not reversed, these changes can result in another valid path that is not equivalent to the original. On a single-user system, it is

  • Sep 2, 2024gix-path is a crate of the gitoxide project dealing with git paths and their conversions.CVE-2024-45305 · Other software · Byron · reported by GitHubLow 2.5

gix-path is a crate of the gitoxide project dealing with git paths and their conversions. `gix-path` executes `git` to find the path of a configuration file that belongs to the `git` installation itself, but mistakenly treats the local repository's configuration as system-wide if no higher scoped configuration is found. In rare cases, this causes a less trusted repository to be treated as more trusted, or leaks sensitive information from one repository to another, such as sending credentials to another repository's remote. In `gix_path::env`, the underlying implementation of the `installation_config` and `installation_config_prefix` functions calls `git config -l --show-origin` and parses the first line of the output to extract the path to the configuration file holding the configuration variable of highest scope. It is believed to be very difficult to exploit this vulnerability deliberately, due to the need either to anticipate a situation in which higher-scoped configuration variables would be absent, or to arrange for this to happen. Although any operating system may be affected, users running Apple Git on macOS are much less likely to be affected. This issue has been addressed

gitoxide An idiomatic, lean, fast & safe pure Rust implementation of Git. gitoxide-core, which provides most underlying functionality of the gix and ein commands, does not neutralize newlines, backspaces, or control characters—including those that form ANSI escape sequences—that appear in a repository's paths, author and committer names, commit messages, or other metadata. Such text may be written as part of the output of a command, as well as appearing in error messages when an operation fails. This sometimes allows an untrusted repository to misrepresent its contents and to alter or concoct error messages.

gitoxide An idiomatic, lean, fast & safe pure Rust implementation of Git. `gix-path` can be tricked into running another `git.exe` placed in an untrusted location by a limited user account on Windows systems. Windows permits limited user accounts without administrative privileges to create new directories in the root of the system drive. While `gix-path` first looks for `git` using a `PATH` search, in version 0.10.8 it also has a fallback strategy on Windows of checking two hard-coded paths intended to be the 64-bit and 32-bit Program Files directories. Existing functions, as well as the newly introduced `exe_invocation` function, were updated to make use of these alternative locations. This causes facilities in `gix_path::env` to directly execute `git.exe` in those locations, as well as to return its path or whatever configuration it reports to callers who rely on it. Although unusual setups where the system drive is not `C:`, or even where Program Files directories have non-default names, are technically possible, the main problem arises on a 32-bit Windows system. Such a system has no `C:\Program Files (x86)` directory. A limited user on a 32-bit Windows system can therefore cre

  • May 23, 2024gitoxide is a pure Rust implementation of Git.CVE-2024-35197 · Other software · Byron · reported by GitHubMedium 5.4

gitoxide is a pure Rust implementation of Git. On Windows, fetching refs that clash with legacy device names reads from the devices, and checking out paths that clash with such names writes arbitrary data to the devices. This allows a repository, when cloned, to cause indefinite blocking or the production of arbitrary message that appear to have come from the application, and potentially other harmful effects under limited circumstances. If Windows is not used, or untrusted repositories are not cloned or otherwise used, then there is no impact. A minor degradation in availability may also be possible, such as with a very large file named `CON`, though the user could interrupt the application.

gitoxide is a pure Rust implementation of Git. `gix-transport` does not check the username part of a URL for text that the external `ssh` program would interpret as an option. A specially crafted clone URL can smuggle options to SSH. The possibilities are syntactically limited, but if a malicious clone URL is used by an application whose current working directory contains a malicious file, arbitrary code execution occurs. This is related to the patched vulnerability GHSA-rrjw-j4m2-mf34, but appears less severe due to a greater attack complexity. This issue has been patched in versions 0.35.0, 0.42.0 and 0.62.0.
