Sep 8, 2026A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf.CVE-2026-18090 · Other software · Red Hat · reported by Red HatMedium 6.1
A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a heap out-of-bounds read by providing a specially crafted Apple Icon Image (.icns) file. The uncompress() function, which handles RLE-encoded ICNS icon data, fails to validate the source buffer's boundaries during decompression. This can lead to a denial of service, where the application crashes, or to information disclosure, potentially revealing sensitive data from adjacent memory.

Aug 27, 2026A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf.CVE-2026-81893 · Other software · Red Hat · reported by Red HatMedium 4.7
A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf. When loading a specially crafted JPEG image containing chunked ICC profile markers, an error during ICC profile parsing can leave stale size metadata after the profile buffer is freed. A subsequent allocation in the same decode can cause an out-of-bounds write, potentially crashing the application. To exploit this flaw, an application using gdk-pixbuf must process the malicious JPEG image. Affected version >= 2.26.4

Jul 23, 2026A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf.CVE-2026-16768 · Other software · GNOME · reported by Red HatMedium 5.3
A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf. When parsing a specially crafted ICO file with pixel values that exceed the defined palette range, an out-of-bounds read can occur due to improper bounds checking against the actual palette size. This vulnerability causes heap bytes to be interpreted as valid palette indices and rendered as RGB pixel values in the output image, allowing an attacker to extract heap content via the generated output, such as a thumbnail.

Mar 31, 2026A flaw was found in the gdk-pixbuf library.CVE-2026-5201 · Other software · Red Hat · reported by Red HatHigh 7.5
A flaw was found in the gdk-pixbuf library. This heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability occurs in the JPEG image loader due to improper validation of color component counts when processing a specially crafted JPEG image. A remote attacker can exploit this flaw without user interaction, for example, via thumbnail generation. Successful exploitation leads to application crashes and denial of service (DoS) conditions.

Jan 26, 2024In GNOME GdkPixbuf (aka gdk-pixbuf) through 2.42.10, the ANI (Windows animated cursor) decoder encounters heap memory corruption (in ani_load_chunk in io-ani.c)CVE-2022-48622 · Other software · gnome · reported by MITREHigh 7.8
In GNOME GdkPixbuf (aka gdk-pixbuf) through 2.42.10, the ANI (Windows animated cursor) decoder encounters heap memory corruption (in ani_load_chunk in io-ani.c) when parsing chunks in a crafted .ani file. A crafted file could allow an attacker to overwrite heap metadata, leading to a denial of service or code execution attack. This occurs in gdk_pixbuf_set_option() in gdk-pixbuf.c.

May 28, 2021A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf in versions before 2.42.0.CVE-2021-20240 · Other software · Gnome · reported by Red HatHigh 8.8
A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf in versions before 2.42.0. An integer wraparound leading to an out of bounds write can occur when a crafted GIF image is loaded. An attacker may cause applications to crash or could potentially execute code on the victim system. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and integrity as well as system availability.

Dec 25, 2020GNOME gdk-pixbuf (aka GdkPixbuf) before 2.42.2 allows a denial of service (infinite loop) in lzw.c in the function write_indexes.CVE-2020-29385 · Other software · Gnome · reported by MITREMedium 5.5
GNOME gdk-pixbuf (aka GdkPixbuf) before 2.42.2 allows a denial of service (infinite loop) in lzw.c in the function write_indexes. if c->self_code equals 10, self->code_table[10].extends will assign the value 11 to c. The next execution in the loop will assign self->code_table[11].extends to c, which will give the value of 10. This will make the loop run infinitely. This bug can, for example, be triggered by calling this function with a GIF image with LZW compression that is crafted in a special way.
