In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: stmmac: dwmac1000: clear the RGMII status interrupt Since commit 2e2c878a3141 ("net: stmmac: remove SGMII/RGMII/SMII interrupt handling") nothing on the RGMII path reads GMAC_RGSMIIIS, so RGSMIIIS stays pending behind GMAC_INT_MASK from the first link change on. stmmac_resume() resets the MAC in stmmac_hw_setup(); the reset sets GMAC_INT_MASK to 0 until dwmac1000_core_init() writes the mask again, and the pending status storms the line: dwmac_dma_interrupt: unexpected status 04000000 A register dump at the first message on ODROID-HC4 showed it: core int_status 00000001 int_mask 00000000 pmt 00000000 rgsmiiis 0000000d When the resume thread runs on the CPU that takes the MAC interrupt, the storm starves it: a soft lockup, then a watchdog reset or a hang. Read GMAC_RGSMIIIS in dwmac1000_irq_status() when the status is not masked, as the driver did before 2e2c878a3141; the read clears it. Wake-on-LAN resume from s2idle with the resume thread and the MAC interrupt on one CPU: Helios64 (dwmac-rk), 7.3-rc6, soft-locked in 3 of 3 resumes without a fix and in 0 of 10 with this patch; it ran with an out-of-

  • Oct 28, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/insn-eval: Fix shadowed segment index in get_seg_reg_override_idx() Commit 45e1dccc065CVE-2026-99186 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/insn-eval: Fix shadowed segment index in get_seg_reg_override_idx() Commit 45e1dccc0653 ("x86/insn: Simplify for_each_insn_prefix()") made for_each_insn_prefix() declare its own loop counter named idx. get_seg_reg_override_idx() keeps its result in a local of the same name, so the assignments in the loop body now write the loop counter: - the function always returns INAT_SEG_REG_DEFAULT, so FS and GS overrides are ignored; - a CS override sets the counter to INAT_SEG_REG_CS (2), the increment makes it 3, and prefixes.bytes[3] holds the last prefix, 0x2e again, so the loop never terminates. The UMIP emulation reaches this from the #GP handler for user space: an SGDT, SIDT or SMSW with a memory operand and a CS prefix leaves the task spinning in the kernel, never returning to user space, with a SIGKILL that is never delivered. Any user can thus tie up CPUs until reboot. With an FS or GS prefix, the emulated result is written to the wrong address. Rename the internal macro iterator variable. [ Lukas' original patch renamed the use site, I changed it to rename the iterator in the macro instead,

  • Oct 28, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: namespace: a mount that copy_tree() leaves out can't take over a lock Since commit c62a476CVE-2026-99170 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: namespace: a mount that copy_tree() leaves out can't take over a lock Since commit c62a4766937e ("move_mount: transfer MNT_LOCKED") a mount can be moved beneath a locked mount. The lock moves from the old cover to the new mount which takes over the job of hiding what's under it and the old cover can be unmounted. That works as long as the new mount stays. But the caller picks the new mount and copy_tree() leaves a mount of a mount namespace file out of every copy made without CL_COPY_MNT_NS_FILE, together with everything mounted on it, and never looks at MNT_LOCKED. unshare(CLONE_NEWNS) and mount propagation make such copies. So a task that is root in its own user namespace gets rid of a locked cover on a file without a race and without touching the filesystem below it. It makes a child with a mount namespace of its own, binds the child's /proc/<pid>/ns/mnt beneath the cover with MOVE_MOUNT_BENEATH, which hands the lock to that bind, and calls unshare(CLONE_NEWNS). The new mount namespace has nothing on the file. That's the usual way to mask a single file, a bind of /dev/null or of an empty file. With a bind of

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: imx: fix slab corruption from undersized DMA bounce buffers Since commit faa8e404ad8e ("spi: imx: support dynamic burst length for ECSPI DMA mode"), the driver allocates its private DMA TX/RX buffers with kzalloc(dma_len), where dma_len is only rounded up to 4 bytes, but maps, syncs and unmaps them with DMA_CACHE_ALIGNED_LEN(dma_len), i.e. rounded up to the cache line size. As a result, the DMA API operates on memory beyond the end of the allocation. This was observed on a custom i.MX8MP platform with an mcp251xfd CAN controller under heavy RPMSG load, as a series of refcount_t warnings triggered from rpmsg_recv_done() in virtio_rpmsg_bus: refcount_t: addition on 0; use-after-free. refcount_t: underflow; use-after-free. refcount_t: saturated; leaking memory. Leading finally to an "Unable to handle kernel paging request" oops. Reproducing this problem took between 30 minutes and roughly 30 hours under the same workload. Hardware watchpoints on the refcount of a struct rpmsg_endpoint showed it was overwritten from 2 to 1 by __pi_memcpy_generic() in the irq/155-spi2.0 thread. Additionally it was found

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xfs: don't hold buffer locks across sync transaction commit in xfs_sync_sb_buf xfs_sync_sb_buf() holds sb/rtsb buffer locks across a synchronous xfs_trans_commit(), which flushes the CIL push workqueue internally. If shutdown occurs during the CIL push, xfs_buf_item_unpin() needs to lock these buffers to fail them, causing a deadlock: setlabel: holds buf lock -> flush_workqueue(xfs-cil) CIL push worker: xfs_buf_item_unpin -> xfs_buf_lock(same buf) Remove the xfs_trans_bhold() calls so that commit releases the buffer locks normally. After the sync commit, re-acquire the buffers via mp->m_sb_bp / mp->m_rtsb_bp for the on-disk writeback.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: riscv: patch: fix handling of bpf-jit execmem addresses Commit 8718e5a3090b ("riscv: patch: skip fixmap mapping when kernel text is already writable") gated the core_kernel_text() branch of patch_map() on CONFIG_STRICT_KERNEL_RWX, and explicitly left the vmalloc branch unchanged. That branch has a separate problem. That branch only creates a temporary writable fixmap alias when CONFIG_STRICT_MODULE_RWX is enabled, and otherwise assumes the target is directly writable and returns the address unchanged. That assumption no longer holds: bpf_prog_pack_alloc calls set_memory_rox() on every pack unconditionally in alloc_new_pack(), independently of any CONFIG_STRICT_*_RWX option, so BPF text in the vmalloc area is read-only regardless of what CONFIG_STRICT_MODULE_RWX says. With CONFIG_STRICT_MODULE_RWX=n, patch_map() returns the read-only address directly, the subsequent copy_to_kernel_nofault() takes a page fault and returns -EFAULT. bpf_arch_text_copy() turns that into -EINVAL, which propagates through bpf_jit_binary_pack_finalize() to the WARN_ON() in bpf_int_jit_compile() and leaves the program un-JITed. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv4: stop PMTU walk when nexthop group shrinks Commit 7d3f3b4367f3 ("net: ipv4: Cache pmtu for all packet paths if multipath enabled") made __ip_rt_update_pmtu() update every path. For nexthop objects, fib_info_num_path() and fib_info_nhc() independently load nh->nh_grp. RCU protects each group's lifetime but does not make the loads observe the same group. If replacement shrinks the group after the loop accepts an index, fib_info_nhc() returns NULL and update_or_create_fnhe() dereferences it. A deterministic probe only widened the existing window between the real operations. On v7.2, an RTM_NEWNEXTHOP replacement published a one-member group after the PMTU reader accepted index 1 from a two-member group, producing: KASAN: null-ptr-deref in range [0x0000000000000000-0x0000000000000007] RIP: update_or_create_fnhe+0x45/0x15b0 Stop when the indexed path is absent. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv4: do not warn on route notification size race Commit 680aea08e78c ("net: ipv4: Emit notification when fib hardware flags are changed") added asynchronous route notifications for hardware flag changes. fib_alias_hw_flags_set() sizes the skb with fib_nlmsg_size() and later fills it with fib_dump_info() while holding only RCU. With nexthop compatibility mode enabled, a concurrent replacement can grow the group between these independent snapshots. fib_dump_info() can then legitimately return -EMSGSIZE, so the warning does not prove a sizing bug. Remove the warning. The existing error path still frees the skb and reports the error to listeners.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cgroup/cpuset: Handle cpu hotplug race in guarantee_active_cpus() With commit 2125c0034c5d ("cgroup/cpuset: Make cpuset hotplug processing synchronous"), the cpuset hotplug operation becomes synchronous. That commit also removes the code that handles race between cpuset_hotplug_work and cpu hotplug notifier with the assumption that race is now gone. Later commit 7a0aabd9ce69 ("cgroup/cpuset: Always use cpu_active_mask") updates the cpuset code to always use cpu_active_mask instead of cpu_online_mask in some places including guarantee_online_cpus() which is renamed to guarantee_active_cpus() in that commit. In the case of CPU offline operation, cpu_active_mask is updated first in sched_cpu_deactivate() to remove the offline CPU before cpuset_handle_hotplug() is called to update the effective_cpus of the affected cpusets. The cpu_online_mask is updated after that near the end of the offline operation to remove the offline CPU. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/imagination: Size page table preallocation by device address Commit 0a8224058a58 ("drm/imagination: Fix page count for page table for map() interface") passed the device address to pvr_mmu_op_context_create(), but the preallocation is still sized from device_addr + sgt_offset with an exclusive end. The offset into the object's pages has no place in a device-virtual range, and the exclusive end allocates one table too many when the range ends on a table boundary. Count the tables from device_addr and the inclusive end of the range. The new calculation does not take page table indices into account. This fixes another issue with the previous implementation, where the difference between start and end indices could underflow when a mapping crossed a page table boundary. This would lead to the driver preallocating a huge number of MMU pages, exhausting system memory and triggering an out of memory panic. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: em_text: reject unterminated algo before autoload This is a follow-up to commit 9c572a83037a ("net/sched: fix potential stack infoleak in em_text_dump()"), which zero-initialised the dump-side struct. Sashiko pointed at a pre-existing bug that exposed the change-side input-validation gap open. em_text_change() casts the raw netlink attribute payload to struct tcf_em_text and passes conf->algo, a 16-byte array with no enforced NUL terminator, to textsearch_prepare(). On the TS_AUTOLOAD retry textsearch_prepare() calls request_module("ts_%s", algo); vsnprintf() walks %s until it finds a NUL, so an algo[] with no NUL reads past the array into the adjacent struct fields and payload and feeds those bytes to the usermode helper command line. This is an out-of-bounds read and a kernel memory disclosure. Reject the attribute when no NUL exists within TC_EM_TEXT_ALGOSIZ bytes, matching the check xt_string has had since 3ab720881b6e. Because __alloc_skb() and __build_skb_around() zero-initialize skb->network_header to 0 (unlike mac_header and transport_header which are initialized to ~0U), those four callers always had skb->network_header == 0 and bypassed flow dissection in __virtio_net_hdr_to_skb(). More generally, skb->network_header is an offset from skb->head (where 0 is also a valid offset whenever skb_headroom(skb) is 0), not a boolean flag. Whenever the 'if (gso_type && skb->network_header)' branch was skipped, the fallback 'else if (gso_type)' only pulled nh_min_len + thlen (40 bytes for TCPv4) without dissecting the packet, without validating ip_proto or n_proto,

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: don't enable large folios on encrypted inodes Commit 709f0f1f1bf5 ("ext4: add checks for large folio incompatibilities when BS > PS") disables large folios at mount time if the "encrypt" feature is set. However, enabling that feature on a mounted filesystem circumvents that check, and writing encrypted data results in a crash: BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000028 Workqueue: ext4-rsv-conversion ext4_end_io_rsv_work RIP: 0010:ext4_finish_bio+0xf7/0x3e0 Call Trace: ext4_release_io_end+0x51/0x110 ext4_end_io_end+0x4c/0xe0 ext4_end_io_rsv_work+0xb3/0x100 Fix this by disabling large folios on encrypted inodes, as is already done for inodes that use data journaling. This affects all kernels between v6.19 and v7.2, but it is not needed in v7.3, where the code was significantly refactored.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rust: irq: pass RegistrationInner as cookie to request_irq With commit ba268514ea14 ("rust: devres: fix race condition due to nesting"), Devres::new() returns Result<Self> by value instead of initializing in-place via PinInit. Because request_irq() is called inside Devres::new(), registration.inner is still uninitialized when the IRQ is enabled, so accessing registration.inner.device() in the IRQ callback can read uninitialized memory. Fix this by storing the Device and handler pointer in RegistrationInner and passing RegistrationInner as the IRQ cookie after its fields are initialized. This is not needed in mainline because commit 98c63ce4d760 ("rust: irq: make Registration compatible with lifetime-bound drivers") removed Devres from irq::Registration and moved request_irq() after all fields are initialized.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfs: Fix missing alloc tagging of direct mempool allocations Commit 1d78d56c43ef ("netfs: Fix folio_queue ENOMEM in writeback by adding a mempool") added a mempool for the folio_queues and made the request, subrequest and folio_queue allocations distinguish between writeback and everything else. Writeback is part of memory reclaim and must not fail due to ENOMEM, so it allocates under GFP_NOFS through mempool_alloc(), which may dip into the pool's reserve and, if that runs empty, wait for elements to be returned. The GFP_KERNEL paths, which can return -ENOMEM to their callers, invoke the pool's ->alloc() callback directly instead. The direct call, however, skips the alloc_hooks() wrapper that the mempool_alloc() macro provides. The pool callbacks, mempool_alloc_slab() and mempool_kmalloc(), call kmem_cache_alloc_noprof() and kmalloc_noprof() and rely on current->alloc_tag having been set by the caller.
