In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched/core: Call wakeup_preempt() for queued tasks during class change Paul reported recent RCU changes exposed a lost resched where CPU idles with a rcutorture thread waiting while being completely runnable. Dumping the rq state at the time of idling with runnable tasks showed the following: rq->next_class = &fair_sched_class rq->nr_running = 1 rq->cfs.h_nr_queued = 0 rq->rt.rt_nr_running = 1 Although the waiting task was an RT task, "rq->next_class" did not point to rt_sched_class and was stuck at the lower priority fair_sched_class. Inspecting sched_change_end() revealed the following race with __sched_setscheduler() for queued, but non-running tasks: CPU0 CPU1 ==== ==== __schedule() /* * rq->donor is a fair task that blocks. * rq->next_class = &fair_sched_class */ rq_lock(rq0) pick_next_task() /* nr_running = 0 */ pick_task_fair() sched_balance_newidle() raw_spin_rq_unlock(rq0) rq_lock(rq0)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched_ext: Fix CPU hotplug hang when a dying CPU's tasks sit in the BPF scheduler A CPU going down has to empty its own rq. Its hotplug thread waits in sched_cpu_wait_empty() until nothing else is left, and the only thing that wakes it is balance_push(), which runs from __schedule() on the dying CPU and pushes off the migratable tasks the CPU picks. sched_ext breaks this. A task sitting on a user DSQ or held by the BPF scheduler is still counted on its rq, but an inactive CPU no longer calls ops.dispatch() and can't pull the task back. The dying CPU goes idle with the task still counted, and one of two things happens: - Another CPU consumes the task. The rq empties without a __schedule() on the dying CPU, so the hotplug thread is never woken and cpu_down() hangs holding cpu_hotplug_lock. - The task is affine only to the dying CPU. Nothing can move it, and the offline stalls until the watchdog ejects the BPF scheduler. When the rq goes offline, re-enqueue every task on it that isn't already on the local DSQ. An enqueue on an offline rq lands on the local DSQ, so the dying CPU itself picks the tasks and ba

Oct 23, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs: avoid repeated scans in evict_inodes() We observed hung tasks when users attempted to CVE-2026-98924 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs: avoid repeated scans in evict_inodes() We observed hung tasks when users attempted to unmount a filesystem after its disk had been removed while still in use. During device removal, fs_bdev_mark_dead() calls evict_inodes() while holding s_umount. Each time evict_inodes() drops s_inode_list_lock to reschedule, it restarts the walk from the head of s_inodes. With many referenced inodes at the head of the list, these restarts repeatedly scan the same inodes without reclaiming them. This can keep s_umount held for a long time, blocking concurrent umount attempts and triggering hung-task reports. Keep the current inode, already marked I_FREEING, out of the disposal batch until s_inode_list_lock is reacquired. Resume the walk from this inode and dispose of it in a later batch or at the end of the walk. The zero-refcount and state checks under i_lock allow this walker to claim the inode by setting I_FREEING and removing it from the LRU. Other reclaimers skip the inode, leaving this walker responsible for eviction. Only evict() removes it from s_inodes, so keeping it out of the disposal batch ensures that it remai

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Wait for an RCU tasks grace period before freeing trampoline progs When a prog is detached from a trampoline, it is freed after an RCU grace period, or an RCU tasks trace one if it is sleepable. This covers the tasks that are running the prog, since the prog's enter helper takes the matching read lock before the prog is called. On a preemptible kernel, it doesn't cover a task that was preempted in the trampoline just before the enter helper. Oct 18, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: writeback: report a Tasks-RCU quiescent state per cgwb drain pass cleanup_offline_cgwbs_woCVE-2026-98536 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: writeback: report a Tasks-RCU quiescent state per cgwb drain pass cleanup_offline_cgwbs_workfn() drains a dying cgwb by calling cleanup_offline_cgwb() until it returns false, with a cond_resched() between passes. On a CONFIG_PREEMPTION kernel that cond_resched() does nothing: _cond_resched() is a plain "return 0", and under PREEMPT_DYNAMIC the full and lazy modes disable it. Since commit 7dadeaa6e851 ("sched: Further restrict the preemption modes") those are the only two models on the architectures with PREEMPT_LAZY support, arm64 and x86 among them, so the drain loop never reports a Tasks-RCU quiescent state. A worker draining a cgwb with millions of attached inodes runs for minutes. On a 6.18 arm64 host in lazy mode the cgwb worker drained one dying cgroup's writeback domain for over 11 minutes. A BPF program unlink (bpf_trampoline_unlink_prog -> bpf_trampoline_update -> unregister_ftrace_direct -> ftrace_shutdown -> synchronize_rcu_tasks()) waited on that grace period while holding the trampoline mutex, 42 tasks queued behind it in D state, and the hung task detector fired at 614 s and panicked the host.

Sep 29, 2026An improper authorization vulnerability exists in the handling of sub-workflow tasks.CVE-2026-81569 · Websites & servers · Apache Software Foundation · reported by security@apache.orgMedium 4.3
An improper authorization vulnerability exists in the handling of sub-workflow tasks. An authenticated user who does not have permission to access a target project can reference and invoke a workflow belonging to that project through a sub-workflow task. The system does not properly verify whether the user has permission to execute the referenced workflow or access its project. As a result, the user can bypass project-level authorization controls and cause workflows in unauthorized projects to be executed. Successful exploitation may allow unauthorized execution of workflow tasks and access to the resources or data available to the target workflow. This issue affects Apache DolphinScheduler: before 3.4.3. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 3.4.3, which fixes the issue.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cgroup: Avoid iteration of dying tasks with zero refcount The commit 260fbcb92bbea ("cgroup: Move dying_tasks cleanup from cgroup_task_release() to cgroup_task_free()") extended the lifetime of tasks on the dying_tasks list. The iterators have provision to go through dying_tasks because of dying threadgroup leaders or explicit CSS_TASK_ITER_WITH_DEAD, however, it was expected that such tasks can obtain a new reference (that is possible before cgroup_task_release()/put_task_struct_rcu_user()). The tasks after cgroup_task_release() and before cgroup_task_free() are subject to race when they may or may not have ->usage count > 0. The race window is between css_task_iter_next() invocations when css_set_lock is released and we may arrive at a new ->task_pos. The iterator should not attempt to resurrect tasks whose ->usage count dropped to zero. (When that happens, __put_task_struct_rcu_cb() is already imminent and the returned task_struct would could be used after free.) As for the fix, we cannot simply check the signal->live count of a task on the dying list because that won't distinguish regular zombies waiting to

Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched/rt,dl: Skip migrate-disabled tasks when picking a push candidate A migrate_disable()CVE-2026-98087 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched/rt,dl: Skip migrate-disabled tasks when picking a push candidate A migrate_disable()'d RT task cannot be moved to another CPU, but the scheduler still keeps such a task on that CPU's pushable list (rq->rt.pushable_tasks) and still marks the runqueue RT-overloaded (rq->rt.overloaded = 1). So the RT balancer keeps treating this CPU as having a task to move away, and keeps trying to move the task, but the push can never succeed. When the head is pinned, push_rt_task() does not give up either. It falls back to pushing rq->curr instead, using the per-CPU stopper, as added by commit a7c81556ec4d ("sched: Fix migrate_disable() vs rt/dl balancing"). The CPU spends tens of milliseconds in this retry loop. The core is isolated for real-time work, but during the loop nearly half of its time is consumed by pushes that cannot succeed. An ftrace capture of the affected CPU, with sched_switch enabled and commit 94894c9c477e ("sched/rt: Skip currently executing CPU in rto_next_cpu()") applied, shows where the CPU time went. Two SCHED_FIFO tasks at equal priority shared the CPU, taskA migrate_disable()'d and queued, taskB

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: memcg: bypass the reclaim and oom killer for dying tasks once oom_reaper is done At Meta, we are seeing instances where an OOM killed job is stuck in the exit path for several hours. In one particular case, the job was stuck for more than 8 hours and I had to manually remove the memory.max limits to allow the process to exit. The job was a single process job and had ~55 GiB memory.max and zswap enabled. It had almost 0 anon in memory and ~111 GiB in zswap compressed to ~51 GiB zswap pool (i.e. almost all of memory.current was zswap). Nothing was left on the LRUs to reclaim. Sep 21, 2026Hatchet is a platform for orchestrating background tasks, AI agents, and durable workflows at scale.CVE-2026-88978 · Other software · hatchet-dev · reported by GitHubMedium 4.3
Hatchet is a platform for orchestrating background tasks, AI agents, and durable workflows at scale. Prior to 0.106.1, the WorkerStatus gRPC polling path in pkg/repository/durable_events.go passes caller-supplied durable task, node, and branch identifiers to ListSatisfiedEntries without a tenant filter, allowing an authenticated tenant worker that knows another tenant's durable-task UUID to retrieve matching durable event-log records. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cgroup/cpuset: Make nr_deadline_tasks an atomic_t The nr_deadline_tasks variable in the cpuset structure was introduced by commit 6c24849f5515 ("sched/cpuset: Keep track of SCHED_DEADLINE task in cpusets"). It is reported by sashiko [1] that nr_deadline_tasks can currently be modified by inc_dl_tasks_cs() under rq->lock and by cpuset_attach() under cpuset_mutex. So if both updates happen simultaneously, the nr_deadline_tasks variable can be corrupted leading to incorrect operations down the road. Fix that by changing its type to atomic_t so that nr_deadline_tasks are always atomically updated. This fix patch is a low hanging fruit. It can handle some of the races between a concurrent sched_setscheduler() and cpuset_can_attach()/cpuset_attach() calls, but not all of them like the other issue raised by sashiko [2]. This will be handled hopefully in a future follow up patch. Sep 11, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/migrate: report RCU-tasks quiescent states in migrate_pages_batch() migrate_pages_batchCVE-2026-89756 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/migrate: report RCU-tasks quiescent states in migrate_pages_batch() migrate_pages_batch() unmaps each folio before moving it, and every unmap runs the mmu_notifier invalidate callbacks. On KVM hosts try_to_migrate() ends up in kvm_mmu_notifier_invalidate_range_start() -> tdp_mmu_zap_leafs(), which is expensive, so unmapping a large batch keeps the CPU busy for a long time. The loop already calls cond_resched(), but on PREEMPTION kernels that is a no-op, and involuntary preemption is not a Tasks-RCU quiescent state. A long batch therefore never reports a quiescent state, and the migrating task (e.g. kcompactd) becomes a Tasks-RCU holdout, stalling the Tasks-RCU grace period for minutes, which is common at Meta fleet: INFO: rcu_tasks detected stalls on tasks: 0000000055349ecc: .. nvcsw: 1157401/1157401 holdout: 1 idle_cpu: -1/56 task:kcompactd0 state:R running task Call Trace: tdp_mmu_zap_leafs tdp_mmu_next_root gfn_to_pfn_cache_invalidate_start kvm_mmu_notifier_invalidate_range_start __mmu_notifier_invalidate_range_start try_to_migrate_one try_to_migrate migrate_pages_bat

Involuntary preemption is not a Tasks-RCU quiescent state, so the reclaiming task never reports one and becomes a holdout. Sep 7, 2026The ftp and scp tasks of Apache Ant can download files from a remote server.CVE-2026-78254 · Websites & servers · Apache Software Foundation · reported by security@apache.orgHigh 7.4
The ftp and scp tasks of Apache Ant can download files from a remote server. A malicious server can provide relative paths that allow it to write outside of the dedicated target directory for the download, making it possible to overwrite files of the attacker's choice using the permissions of the user running Ant in versions prior to Ant 1.10.18. In order to exploit this vulnerability, the server would either have to be malicious or be subject to a machine-in-the-middle attack. Additionally in the case of scp or the ftp task using ftps the server must pass the server identity checks performed by the tasks. For ftp tasks not using ftps a malicious server could act as a machine-in-the-middle to provide malicious files. Starting with Ant 1.10.18 both tasks will prevent writing outside of the destination directory by default. An option is available to disable this behavior in the unlikely case that the old behavior is required by existing build files. Mitigations: Users of scp and ftp (when using ftps) in any version of Ant should not bypass server identity checks. Users of ftp not using ftps should switch to ftps where possible. Aug 28, 2026Hatchet is a platform for orchestrating background tasks, AI agents, and durable workflows at scale.CVE-2026-54746 · Other software · hatchet-dev · reported by GitHubMedium 6.4
Hatchet is a platform for orchestrating background tasks, AI agents, and durable workflows at scale. From 0.40.0 until 0.91.1, the Dispatcher gRPC service does not verify that a request's worker ID belongs to the tenant identified by the bearer-token context in Dispatcher/UpsertWorkerLabels and Dispatcher/Unsubscribe. An authenticated owner of any tenant who guesses another tenant's worker UUID can overwrite that worker's affinity labels or disconnect the worker from the dispatcher. This can cause cross-tenant integrity impact and denial of service on multi-tenant Hatchet Cloud or shared self-hosted deployments. Single-tenant deployments are not practically affected because the attacker and target tenant are the same. This issue is fixed in version 0.91.1.

Aug 12, 2026Apache Airflow 3.3.0 moved human-in-the-loop tasks from the triggerer to a new `awaiting_input` task state swept by the scheduler.CVE-2026-67260 · Websites & servers · Apache Software Foundation · reported by security@apache.orgHigh 7.3
Apache Airflow 3.3.0 moved human-in-the-loop tasks from the triggerer to a new `awaiting_input` task state swept by the scheduler. That sweep deserializes the task instance's `next_kwargs` without an allow-list, so a Dag author — who controls that value through the task execution API — can cause an arbitrary module import and object instantiation inside the scheduler process, or terminate the scheduler job. No non-default configuration is required: the sweep runs unconditionally every 15 seconds, and the default `allowed_deserialization_classes` setting does not cover this code path. Versions before 3.3.0 are not affected, because human-in-the-loop tasks deferred onto the triggerer instead. This is a different code path from CVE-2026-58076, which covers the same unguarded exception-node deserialization reached elsewhere — deployments that applied that fix must upgrade for this issue as well. Users are advised to upgrade to apache-airflow 3.3.1 or later.

AgentGPT through 1.0.0 contains an authorization bypass through user-controlled key vulnerability that allows authenticated users to attach tasks to another user's agent run by supplying a target run_id in the request body without ownership verification. The AgentCRUD.create_task and validate_task_count functions look up the target AgentRun using the client-supplied run_id without confirming the run belongs to the requesting user, enabling an attacker who obtains a valid run_id to corrupt task history, exhaust the per-run loop budget, and drive LLM costs against the victim's run.
