In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: close completed creates on compound wait errors compound_send_recv() waits for responses in order. If a later wait is interrupted, or if a later MID fails during response synchronization, an earlier CREATE may already have opened a remote handle. The earlier mid is then released without invoking handle_cancelled_mid(), leaving the remote handle open because no FID was copied to the caller. Mark completed earlier mids as cancelled when a compound wait or MID synchronization aborts. Keep their response buffers attached while the MIDs are synchronized, and transfer them only after synchronization of the processed responses, so the release path can inspect successful CREATE responses and queue SMB2_close() after a later failure. Account for a remote open only after the close work is allocated and before it is queued, since the caller has not yet updated num_remote_opens. Mark the create+close compound used by smb2_unlink() so it is not closed again. Non-CREATE responses and compounds that already include a close keep their existing behavior.

Oct 18, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: delete compound mids on send failure before unlock When sending a compound reCVE-2026-98449 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: delete compound mids on send failure before unlock When sending a compound request fails, smb_send_rqst() kicks off a reconnect. compound_send_recv() still has those mids on pending_mid_q, but it unlocks the server without removing them first. During reconnect, cifs_abort_connection() walks pending_mid_q and runs each mid callback. With no response yet, those callbacks return credits and drop in_flight. Then compound_send_recv()'s send-error path returns the same credits again. in_flight ends up decremented twice and smb2_add_credits() WARNs. syzbot hits this during SMB2_negotiate when the socket send fails. cifs_call_async() already calls delete_mid() before unlock on send failure. Do the same for compound chains and set cancelled_mid[] so the out: path does not delete them again.

Oct 6, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix next_buffer UAF and NextCommand bounds in compound PDUs Fix several relatCVE-2026-98171 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 8.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix next_buffer UAF and NextCommand bounds in compound PDUs Fix several related bounds checking and pointer lifecycle issues in receive_encrypted_standard()'s handling of compound encrypted frames: - Clear next_buffer after assigning it to server->bigbuf. A stale next_buffer pointer can lead to a use-after-free on subsequent error paths. - Update pdu_length to the decrypted plaintext size (buf_size). Using the pre-decryption length allows NextCommand to point into stale ciphertext residue. - Reject next_cmd values smaller than MID_HEADER_SIZE(server). - Fix an integer overflow in the upper bound check by verifying pdu_length - next_cmd < MID_HEADER_SIZE(server), ensuring the trailing slice is large enough for a header.

Oct 6, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix server->total_read for compound encrypted PDUs In receive_encrypted_standCVE-2026-98167 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix server->total_read for compound encrypted PDUs In receive_encrypted_standard(), server->total_read is left at the full decrypted frame size when walking sub-PDUs of a compound encrypted frame. As a result, cifs_handle_standard() passes this full size to smb2_check_message(), causing the PDU length guards to incorrectly validate the entire compound frame instead of the current sub-PDU. This allows truncated non-last sub-PDUs to bypass length validation, leading to out-of-bounds reads in smb2_get_data_area_len(). Fix this by setting server->total_read to the true length of the current sub-PDU: next_cmd for non-last sub-PDUs, and the remaining pdu_length for the last one.

Sep 16, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/migrate_device: avoid out-of-bounds writes for compound folios migrate_device_range() aCVE-2026-89967 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/migrate_device: avoid out-of-bounds writes for compound folios migrate_device_range() and migrate_device_pfns() clear the entries following a compound folio so that the PFN arrays retain their page-granular representation. If a compound folio extends beyond the end of the caller-provided range, the loops clear all following folio entries without limiting them to the number of slots remaining in the npages-sized array, causing an out-of-bounds write. Do not proceed with a compound folio if its page-granular representation does not fit entirely in the remaining PFN array. If this happens, drop any reference and lock acquired for the folio, clear the remaining entries, and stop collecting. Observed with a KASAN x86 QEMU kernel using the HMM migrate_anon_huge_zero selftest. Closing /dev/hmm_dmirror0 after migrating an anonymous huge page to device memory exercises: dmirror_fops_release() -> dmirror_device_evict_chunk() -> migrate_device_range()

Sep 16, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/mm: fix wrong addr_pfn tracking in compound vmemmap population vmemmap_populate_coCVE-2026-89961 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/mm: fix wrong addr_pfn tracking in compound vmemmap population vmemmap_populate_compound_pages() uses addr_pfn to determine the PFN offset within a compound page and to decide whether the current vmemmap slot should be populated as a head page mapping or should reuse a tail page mapping. However, addr_pfn is advanced manually in parallel with addr. The loop itself progresses in vmemmap address space, so each PAGE_SIZE step in addr covers PAGE_SIZE / sizeof(struct page) struct page slots. Since addr_pfn is compared against nr_pages in data-PFN units, it should advance by the same number of PFNs. The existing manual increments do not match that and therefore do not reliably track the PFN corresponding to the current addr. As a result, pfn_offset can be computed from the wrong PFN and the code can make the head/tail decision for the wrong compound-page position. Fix this by deriving addr_pfn directly from the current vmemmap address instead of carrying it as loop state.

Sep 11, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: clear opcnt on compound arg release to prevent OOB read nfsd4_release_compoundargs()CVE-2026-89691 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.1
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: clear opcnt on compound arg release to prevent OOB read nfsd4_release_compoundargs() resets args->ops to the inline iops[8] array when the dynamically-allocated ops buffer is freed, but leaves args->opcnt at its original value (which can be up to 200 for NFSv4.1+ compounds). If rq_status_counter is stuck at an odd value (which can happen when nfsd_dispatch() hits an error path after setting it odd), the RPC status dumpit handler reads min(opcnt, 16) entries from args->ops[]. Since iops only has 8 elements and is the last field in struct nfsd4_compoundargs, reading indices 8-15 accesses adjacent slab memory and leaks it to userspace via netlink. Zero opcnt unconditionally in nfsd4_release_compoundargs() so stale compound metadata is never exposed through the status interface. Sep 11, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: defer vfree of compound ops to fix rpc_status UAF The rpc_status netlink dumpit walkCVE-2026-89690 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: defer vfree of compound ops to fix rpc_status UAF The rpc_status netlink dumpit walks every in-flight svc_rqst under rcu_read_lock and, for NFSv4 requests, reads opnums out of args->ops[]. But args->ops is a separate vmalloc buffer freed synchronously by vfree() in nfsd4_release_compoundargs() at the end of every compound. The dumpit's rcu_read_lock pins the svc_rqst struct itself (freed via kfree_rcu), but nothing defers the vfree of the ops buffer across the RCU grace period. A concurrent compound completion can therefore free the buffer while the dumpit is reading it — a use-after-free on vmalloc memory. The trailing seqcount recheck (smp_load_acquire of rq_status_counter) cannot undo a load that already retired against freed memory. Fix by replacing vfree(args->ops) with kvfree_rcu_mightsleep(), which defers the free until after an RCU grace period. This makes the existing rcu_read_lock in the dumpit sufficient to protect the read. The tradeoff is that completed compound ops buffers (up to 200 * sizeof(struct nfsd4_op)) persist in memory slightly longer, across one grace period, before being reclaimed

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: validate compound request size before reading StructureSize2 When ksmbd validates a compound (chained) SMB2 request, ksmbd_smb2_check_message() reads pdu->StructureSize2 without first checking that the compound element is large enough to contain it. StructureSize2 is a 2-byte field at offset 64 (__SMB2_HEADER_STRUCTURE_SIZE) from the start of each element. The compound-walking logic only guarantees that a full 64-byte SMB2 header is present for the trailing element: when NextCommand is 0, len is reduced to the number of bytes remaining after next_smb2_rcv_hdr_off. A remote client can craft a compound request whose last element has exactly 64 bytes, so the 2-byte StructureSize2 read at offset 64 extends one byte past the receive buffer, producing a slab-out-of-bounds read. Jul 19, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: reject non-VALID session in compound request branch smb2_check_user_session() takesCVE-2026-53383 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: reject non-VALID session in compound request branch smb2_check_user_session() takes a shortcut for any operation that is not the first in a COMPOUND request: it reuses work->sess (the session bound by the first operation) and validates only the SessionId, then returns "valid". It never re-checks work->sess->state == SMB2_SESSION_VALID, and a SessionId of 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF (ULLONG_MAX, the MS-SMB2 related-operation value) skips even the id comparison. The standalone path (ksmbd_session_lookup_all() plus the SESSION_SETUP state machine) does enforce the VALID state; the compound branch bypasses all of it. A SESSION_SETUP carrying only an NTLM Type-1 (NtLmNegotiate) blob publishes a fresh SMB2_SESSION_IN_PROGRESS session whose sess->user is still NULL (->user is assigned later, by ntlm_authenticate()). Used as operation 1 of a COMPOUND with operation 2 = TREE_CONNECT (related, SessionId=ULLONG_MAX, \\host\IPC$), the tree-connect then runs on that IN_PROGRESS session and reaches ksmbd_ipc_tree_connect_request(), which dereferences user_name(sess->user) with sess->user == NULL (transport_ipc.c:687/701/704) ->

Jul 17, 2026OpenMcdf is a fully .NET / C# library to manipulate Compound File Binary File Format files, also known as Structured Storage.CVE-2026-45785 · Other software · openmcdf · reported by GitHubMedium 6.2
OpenMcdf is a fully .NET / C# library to manipulate Compound File Binary File Format files, also known as Structured Storage. In 3.1.3 and earlier, the BST name-lookup loop in DirectoryTree.TryGetDirectoryEntry (OpenMcdf/DirectoryTree.cs:35-46) walks directory entries by repeatedly calling directories.TryGetSibling(child, siblingType, validateColor). A crafted CFB file with cyclic Left/Right sibling links among directory entries, constructed so the per-step BST-order check in TryGetSibling (DirectoryEntries.cs:84-85) is satisfied at every step, drives this while (child is not null) loop forever. There is no cycle detection in TryGetDirectoryEntry, and the bug is reachable from RootStorage.OpenStorage(name), TryOpenStorage(name), OpenStream(name), and TryOpenStream(name), causing an unrecoverable denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 3.1.4.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: fix out-of-bounds read in smb2_compound_op() If a server sends a truncated response but a large OutputBufferLength, and terminates the EA list early, check_wsl_eas() returns success without validating that the entire OutputBufferLength fits within iov_len. Then smb2_compound_op() does: memcpy(idata->wsl.eas, data[0], size[0]); Where size[0] is OutputBufferLength. If iov_len is smaller than size[0], memcpy can read beyond the end of the rsp_iov allocation and leak adjacent kernel heap memory.

May 27, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: never defer requests during idmap lookup During v4 request compound arg decoding, soCVE-2026-45983 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: never defer requests during idmap lookup During v4 request compound arg decoding, some ops (e.g. SETATTR) can trigger idmap lookup upcalls. When those upcall responses get delayed beyond the allowed time limit, cache_check() will mark the request for deferral and cause it to be dropped. This prevents nfs4svc_encode_compoundres from being executed, and thus the session slot flag NFSD4_SLOT_INUSE never gets cleared. Subsequent client requests will fail with NFSERR_JUKEBOX, given that the slot will be marked as in-use, making the SEQUENCE op fail. Fix this by making sure that the RQ_USEDEFERRAL flag is always clear during nfs4svc_decode_compoundargs(), since no v4 request should ever be deferred.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix potencial OOB in get_file_all_info() for compound requests When a compound request consists of QUERY_DIRECTORY + QUERY_INFO (FILE_ALL_INFORMATION) and the first command consumes nearly the entire max_trans_size, get_file_all_info() would blindly call smbConvertToUTF16() with PATH_MAX, causing out-of-bounds write beyond the response buffer. In get_file_all_info(), there was a missing validation check for the client-provided OutputBufferLength before copying the filename into FileName field of the smb2_file_all_info structure. If the filename length exceeds the available buffer space, it could lead to potential buffer overflows or memory corruption during smbConvertToUTF16 conversion. This calculating the actual free buffer size using smb2_calc_max_out_buf_len() and returning -EINVAL if the buffer is insufficient and updating smbConvertToUTF16 to use the actual filename length (clamped by PATH_MAX) to ensure a safe copy operation.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix OOB write in QUERY_INFO for compound requests When a compound request such as READ + QUERY_INFO(Security) is received, and the first command (READ) consumes most of the response buffer, ksmbd could write beyond the allocated buffer while building a security descriptor. The root cause was that smb2_get_info_sec() checked buffer space using ppntsd_size from xattr, while build_sec_desc() often synthesized a significantly larger descriptor from POSIX ACLs. This patch introduces smb_acl_sec_desc_scratch_len() to accurately compute the final descriptor size beforehand, performs proper buffer checking with smb2_calc_max_out_buf_len(), and uses exact-sized allocation + iov pinning.

I've dug into it a little, but I haven't been able to root-cause it yet. However, I bisected to commit 48aab1606fa8 ("NFSD: Remove the cap on number of operations per NFSv4 COMPOUND"). Tianshuo Han also reports a potential vulnerability when decoding an NFSv4 COMPOUND. An attacker can place an arbitrarily large op count in the COMPOUND header, which results in: [ 51.410584] nfsd: vmalloc error: size 1209533382144, exceeds total pages, mode:0xdc0(GFP_KERNEL|__GFP_ZERO), nodemask=(null),cpuset=/,mems_allowed=0 when NFSD attempts to allocate the COMPOUND op array. Let's restore the operation-per-COMPOUND limit, but increased to 200 for now.
