  • Oct 26, 2026boneIO black_debian_images ships with a Mosquitto MQTT broker that uses the same default credentials on all devices.CVE-2026-77056 · Other software · boneIO · reported by cvd@cert.plHigh 7.1

boneIO black_debian_images ships with a Mosquitto MQTT broker that uses the same default credentials on all devices. These credentials are publicly documented on github, and there is no indication in the instructions to change them. A remote attacker can use them to gain full read and write access to the broker, allowing control of connected relays, blinds, and gates, and injection of fake entities into a linked Home Assistant installation. This issue was fixed in version 1.6.0 of the image: MQTT passwords are generated per device at first boot. Devices upgraded from earlier versions keep their existing broker credentials; from boneio 1.6.0 the web panel reports credentials that are still the published defaults, and the owner has to change them.

  • Oct 26, 2026boneIO Black stores passwords, including the MQTT broker and web panel passwords, in cleartext.CVE-2026-77054 · Other software · boneIO · reported by cvd@cert.plMedium 6.9

boneIO Black stores passwords, including the MQTT broker and web panel passwords, in cleartext. The GET /api/config endpoint returns the full configuration with sub-services passwords exposed. Any authenticated user can call the endpoint and access the administrative passwords in cleartext form. Critically, due to CVE-2026-77053 (authentication disabled by default), an unauthenticated attacker on the same local network can retrieve all passwords. This issue was fixed in version 1.6.0: web panel passwords are stored as salted scrypt hashes in a file readable only by the service account, and the API and logs no longer return secret values. The MQTT broker password has to stay recoverable because the application presents it to the broker as a client; it is kept in a separate file readable only by the service account and is no longer exposed through the API.

In Eclipse Vert.x versions [4.0.0, 4.5.34] or [5.0.0,5.0.12] or [5.1.0,5.1.9] or [5.2.0, 5.2.0], the Eclipse Vert.x MQTT (vertx-mqtt) MqttClient stores every inbound QoS 2 PUBLISH message received from the broker in an internal map (qos2inbound) while awaiting the corresponding PUBREL packet to complete the QoS 2 handshake. This map has no size limit; the maxInflightQueue option is enforced only on the outbound publish path and does not constrain inbound message retention. A malicious or compromised MQTT broker can exploit this by sending QoS 2 PUBLISH messages with distinct packet identifiers and withholding the PUBREL responses. Each incomplete handshake causes the client to retain the full publish message (topic, payload, and metadata) indefinitely, leading to unbounded memory growth in the Vert.x process. This can degrade the MQTT-consuming application or cause out-of-memory termination. The impacted component is io.vertx:vertx-mqtt.

The NetX Duo MQTT client leaks the packet carrying a malformed PUBLISH message. Each malformed PUBLISH costs one packet, or one chain of packets, from the network driver's receive pool, and nothing returns it. A peer that can deliver a few dozen such messages exhausts the pool and stops all inbound network traffic on the device until it is rebooted.

  • Sep 23, 2026Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker.CVE-2026-95848 · Other software · moquette-io · reported by GitHubCritical 9.3

Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker. Prior to 0.18.1, when a configured authenticator or authorizator class cannot be loaded, Server.initializeAuthenticator and Server.initializeAuthorizatorPolicy treat the failure as though no custom class was configured and fall back to AcceptAllAuthenticator or PermitAllAuthorizatorPolicy. A misspelled class name, missing dependency, constructor failure, or classpath problem can therefore start the broker with authentication or authorization disabled even though the operator configured those controls. This issue is fixed in version 0.18.1.

  • Sep 23, 2026Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker.CVE-2026-95847 · Other software · moquette-io · reported by GitHubHigh 8.8

Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker. Prior to 0.18.1, H2PersistentQueue derives a session's message-map name as queue_ plus the client ID and its metadata-map name as queue_ plus the client ID plus _meta. A durable session whose client ID ends in _meta can therefore make its message map collide with another client's metadata map. The colliding sessions read and write the same H2 MVStore map with incompatible value types, which can corrupt queue head and tail data and cause message loss, misdelivery, failed queue reloads, or exposure of queued content across sessions. This issue is fixed in version 0.18.1.

Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker. Prior to 0.18.1, PostOffice.publishWill publishes a client's Last-Will message without applying the canWrite authorization and reserved-topic checks used for a normal PUBLISH. A client can configure a Will for a topic that the client is not permitted to write and cause the broker to publish the unauthorized message when the client disconnects unexpectedly. Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker. Prior to 0.18.1, the broker does not enforce a maximum length for pending per-session message queues. When a fast publisher sends messages to a slow subscriber whose in-flight window is full, queued messages can accumulate without bound in memory or persistent storage. Remote clients can use this condition to exhaust broker resources and cause a denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 0.18.1.

Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker. Prior to 0.18.1, PostOffice.subscribe parses a shared-subscription filter through SharedSubscriptionUtils.extractShareName before validating the complete $share/{shareName}/{topicFilter} structure. A remote client can send a filter such as $share/grp without a topic-filter portion, causing a StringIndexOutOfBoundsException while calculating the share name. Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker. Prior to 0.18.1, SessionEventLoop.run catches only InterruptedException, and SessionEventLoopGroup does not restart a terminated loop. An MQTT command that raises an uncaught exception can terminate an event loop shared by multiple client sessions, preventing every co-located client from processing PUBLISH, SUBSCRIBE, PUBACK, and other commands. Moquette is a lightweight Java MQTT broker. Prior to 0.18.1, when pattern-based ACL rules are configured, AuthorizationsCollector.canDoOperation substitutes client ID and username values directly into rules containing %c or %u and then treats the result as an MQTT topic filter. A client that uses + or # in either identity can broaden the substituted filter and gain cross-tenant read and write access. • Sep 18, 2026NanoMQ is an MQTT broker.CVE-2026-73863 · Other software · nanomq · reported by GitHubHigh 7

NanoMQ is an MQTT broker. Prior to 0.24.14, NanoMQ's broker-side MQTT v5 nmq_subinfo_decode() function in nng/src/sp/protocol/mqtt/mqtt_parser.c reuses len_of_varint from the outer Properties Length while parsing each SUBSCRIPTION_IDENTIFIER. A remote client can send a SUBSCRIBE packet with a multi-byte Properties Length and repeated subscription identifiers, causing get_var_integer() to begin at an incorrect offset and read beyond the heap message buffer. The flaw is reachable through the broker receive path and can crash the broker, while the separately reported topic-option off-by-one occurs later and is not this vulnerability. NanoMQ is an MQTT broker. Prior to 0.24.14, NanoMQ's MQTT v5 property decoder in nng/src/supplemental/mqtt/mqtt_codec.c uses property_append() to walk the entire linked list for each property added by decode_buf_properties(). • Sep 13, 2026The MQTT-SN client keepalive handler process_ping() in subsys/net/lib/mqtt_sn/mqtt_sn.c removes the gateway record after PINGREQ retries are exhausted.CVE-2026-15891 · Other software · zephyrproject · reported by vulnerabilities@zephyrproject.orgHigh 7.5

The MQTT-SN client keepalive handler process_ping() in subsys/net/lib/mqtt_sn/mqtt_sn.c removes the gateway record after PINGREQ retries are exhausted. It invoked SYS_SLIST_PEEK_HEAD_CONTAINER(&client->gateways, gw, next) but discarded the result. That macro is a pure expression that does not assign to gw, so gw retained its NULL initializer regardless of the list contents. The code then dereferences the NULL gw (gw->gw_id) and passes it to mqtt_sn_gw_destroy(), reaching k_mem_slab_free(&gateways, NULL). With CONFIG_MEM_SLAB_POINTER_VALIDATE enabled this triggers k_panic(); in the default configuration it performs a write through the NULL pointer ((char )mem = slab->free_list;) and corrupts the slab free list. The outcome is a crash/kernel panic or, on targets where address 0 is writable, silent memory-allocator corruption. The vulnerable branch runs whenever the connected MQTT-SN gateway fails to answer keepalive PINGREQs for the configured number of retries. This condition is controlled by the remote peer: a malicious or compromised gateway, or an on-path/adjacent attacker that advertises itself as a gateway and then stops responding (or blackholes the real gateway's PINGRESPs)

  • Sep 3, 2026In Eclipse Arrowhead versions from 5.0.0 to 5.2.1 when the MQTT API is enabled with the certificate authentication policy, CertificateMqttFilter parses an X.509CVE-2026-82180 · Other software · Eclipse Foundation · reported by emo@eclipse.orgCritical 9.5

In Eclipse Arrowhead versions from 5.0.0 to 5.2.1 when the MQTT API is enabled with the certificate authentication policy, CertificateMqttFilter parses an X.509 certificate that the client sends inside the MQTT message payload (the authentication field of MqttRequestTemplate) and treats its Subject DN as the authenticated identity. The certificate is decoded with CertificateFactory.generateCertificate() but its signature is never verified and its issuer chain is never validated against any trust store. Authorisation is reduced to two string comparisons on attacker-supplied data: the DN-qualifier must equal "sy" or "op", and the cloud-name part of the CN must match the server's. Both values are public (the cloud name is in the server's own TLS certificate). An attacker who can publish to the MQTT broker can therefore mint a self-signed certificate with CN=Sysop.<cloud>.<org>.arrowhead.eu, dnQualifier=op, send it as the authentication field, and be authenticated as the cloud's system operator with isSysOp == true. This passes the downstream ManagementServiceMqttFilter (request.isSysOp() → allowed) and gives full management access over MQTT. The HTTP CertificateFilter is not affected

Prior to versions 5.8.11, 5.9.3, 5.10.4, 6.0.3, 6.1.2, and 6.2.1, the plugin-install REST API and dashboard upload accepted stale grants created with emqx ctl plugins allow because there was no five-minute grant lifetime or SHA-256 package binding. An attacker with a compromised dashboard administrator credential or API key with plugin-install permission who finds a stale allowed name and version can upload attacker-controlled bytes under the allowed .tar.gz filename through POST /api/v5/plugins/install or the dashboard plugin upload. The broker then installs and runs attacker-controlled Erlang code with the privileges of the EMQX process. This issue is fixed in versions 5.8.11, 5.9.3, 5.10.4, 6.0.3, 6.1.2, and 6.2.1.

Contiki-NG's MQTT client parse_publish_vhdr() in os/net/app-layer/mqtt/mqtt.c sets topic_len_received=1 before checking topic_len against the 64-byte limit, so an over-length topic returns early but leaves the flag set. On the next TCP segment, tcp_input() re-invokes the parser with topic_received==0, and the persisted topic_len_received==1 skips the length-reading block containing the guard, falling through directly to a memcpy() that uses the unvalidated 16-bit topic_len as the copy length. The 65-byte topic[] destination overruns into adjacent struct fields including the payload_chunk pointer, which subsequent MQTT code dereferences, giving a compromised or attacker-controlled broker an arbitrary-pointer-write primitive. Contiki-NG's MQTT implementation has no TLS support so the connection is plaintext. Impact ranges from information disclosure and denial of service to remote code execution on embedded targets without memory protection.

  • Jul 20, 2026In nanomq versions 0.24.11 and earlier, a NULL pointer dereference in `nni_mqttv5_msg_decode_connect()` allows a malicious MQTT broker to crash any connecting NCVE-2026-47275 · Other software · nanomq · reported by GitHubLow 2.6

In nanomq versions 0.24.11 and earlier, a NULL pointer dereference in `nni_mqttv5_msg_decode_connect()` allows a malicious MQTT broker to crash any connecting NanoMQ MQTTv5 client (including bridge mode) with a single packet, causing remote denial of service via SIGSEGV. In `nni_mqttv5_msg_decode_connect()` (`mqtt_codec.c:1863`), the code iterates over CONNECT properties using variable `prop` when it should use `will_prop`. When a CONNECT packet has no connect-level properties (`prop == NULL`) but has will properties (`will_prop != NULL`), dereferencing `prop->next` causes SIGSEGV at address `0x38` (NULL + `offsetof(property, next)`). This affects both `nanomq_cli` and **NanoMQ bridge mode** (Core component), as both use the same `mqtt_client.c` receive path. This can lead to remote DoS if a malicious MQTT broker can crash the client process with a single 35-byte packet and persistent DoS if auto-reconnect causes infinite crash loop.

  • Jul 20, 2026NanoMQ contains a protocol-semantics flaw in its MQTT v5 `SUBSCRIBE` handling: if a subscription entry is missing the final 1-byte `Subscription Options` field,CVE-2026-35217 · Other software · nanomq · reported by GitHubMedium 6.5

NanoMQ contains a protocol-semantics flaw in its MQTT v5 `SUBSCRIBE` handling: if a subscription entry is missing the final 1-byte `Subscription Options` field, the broker may still accept the malformed packet and install the subscription into internal broker state. Under a specific packet-length construction, the same parser flaw also causes a 1-byte out-of-bounds read that crosses the real heap allocation boundary and is detected by ASAN as a `heap-buffer-overflow`. If the consumed byte happens to look acceptable, NanoMQ may continue and append the malformed subscription entry into its internal `subinfol` state. In that case, a `SUBSCRIBE` packet that should be rejected by MQTT rules is instead treated as a successful subscription. Whether ASAN reports the bug does not depend on MQTT's logical `remain` boundary; it depends on whether the read crosses the real heap allocation boundary of the underlying message buffer. In other words, these are not two unrelated issues. They are two manifestations of the same parsing defect: by default, it appears as a semantic vulnerability, and under suitable input conditions, it also becomes a verifiable out-of-bounds read vulnerability.
