  • Sep 11, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: jbd2: check need_resched() when skipping busy checkpoint buffers journal_shrink_one_cp_lisCVE-2026-89566 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: jbd2: check need_resched() when skipping busy checkpoint buffers journal_shrink_one_cp_list() skips busy checkpoint buffers when called with JBD2_SHRINK_BUSY_SKIP. The continue statement on this path also skips the need_resched() check at the end of the loop body. Consequently, when a checkpoint list contains mostly busy buffers, the shrinker can walk the entire list while holding journal->j_list_lock, even when a reschedule has been requested. Large checkpoint lists under memory pressure can therefore cause long lock hold times and leave other CPUs spinning on j_list_lock, resulting in soft lockups or RCU stalls. Route the busy-buffer path through the need_resched() check so that the shrinker can release j_list_lock and reschedule promptly, restoring parity with the clean-buffer path, which already checks need_resched(). This does not change which checkpoint buffers are eligible for removal.

  • Aug 26, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ceph: avoid fs reclaim while using current->journal_info handle_reply() stores a `ceph_mdsCVE-2026-80528 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Critical 9.8

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ceph: avoid fs reclaim while using current->journal_info handle_reply() stores a `ceph_mds_request` pointer in `current->journal_info` while filling the inode and dentry cache from an MDS reply. An allocation in this section can enter direct reclaim and prune dentries from another filesystem. If this dirties an ext4 inode, ext4 starts a JBD2 transaction. JBD2 interprets the Ceph request in `current->journal_info` as a journal handle and dereferences the request's `r_tid` as `h_transaction`, causing a kernel crash, e.g.: Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 00000000077b4818 [...] Internal error: Oops: 0000000096000004 [#1] SMP Modules linked in: CPU: 6 UID: 0 PID: 2699135 Comm: kworker/6:3 Tainted: G W 6.18.38-i3 #1113 NONE [...] Workqueue: ceph-msgr ceph_con_workfn pstate: 80400009 (Nzcv daif +PAN -UAO -TCO -DIT -SSBS BTYPE=--) pc : jbd2__journal_start+0x2c/0x208 lr : __ext4_journal_start_sb+0x100/0x178 [...] Call trace: jbd2__journal_start+0x2c/0x208 (P) __ext4_journal_start_sb+0x100/0x178 ext4_dirty_inode+0x3c/0x90 __mark_inode_dirty+0x58/0x400 ip

  • Aug 20, 2026SecureDrop Client is a desktop app for journalists to securely communicate with sources and handle submissions on the SecureDrop Workstation.CVE-2026-49996 · Other software · freedomofpress · reported by GitHubLow 3.7

SecureDrop Client is a desktop app for journalists to securely communicate with sources and handle submissions on the SecureDrop Workstation. Prior to version 1.3.1, a malicious SecureDrop Server could bypass securedrop-proxy's origin limitation by responding with cross-origin redirects. SecureDrop Server itself has multiple layers of built-in hardening, and is a dedicated physical machine exposed on the internet only via Tor hidden services for the Source and Journalist interfaces, and optionally via remote SSH access over another Tor hidden service. A newsroom's SecureDrop Workstation communicates only with its own dedicated SecureDrop Server. Version 1.3.1 fixes the issue.

  • Aug 15, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: fix kernel BUG in ext4_write_inline_data_end When the data=journal mount option is uCVE-2026-74308 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: fix kernel BUG in ext4_write_inline_data_end When the data=journal mount option is used, the ext4_journalled_write_end() function incorrectly calls ext4_write_inline_data_end() without checking if the EXT4_STATE_MAY_INLINE_DATA flag is still set on the inode. If a previous attempt to convert the inline data to an extent failed (e.g. due to ENOSPC), the EXT4_STATE_MAY_INLINE_DATA flag is cleared, but the EXT4_INODE_INLINE_DATA flag remains set. In this scenario, the next call to ext4_write_begin() will not prepare the inline data xattr for writing, but ext4_journalled_write_end() will incorrectly attempt to write to it, triggering a BUG_ON(pos + len > EXT4_I(inode)->i_inline_size) in ext4_write_inline_data() since i_inline_size was not expanded. Fix this by ensuring that ext4_journalled_write_end() only calls ext4_write_inline_data_end() if the EXT4_STATE_MAY_INLINE_DATA flag is set, mirroring the behavior of ext4_write_end() and ext4_da_write_end().

  • Aug 15, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: jbd2: fix integer underflow in jbd2_journal_initialize_fast_commit() jbd2_journal_initialiCVE-2026-72225 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: jbd2: fix integer underflow in jbd2_journal_initialize_fast_commit() jbd2_journal_initialize_fast_commit() validates journal capacity by checking (journal->j_last - num_fc_blks < JBD2_MIN_JOURNAL_BLOCKS). Both j_last and num_fc_blks are unsigned, so when num_fc_blks exceeds j_last the subtraction wraps to a large value, bypassing the bounds check. The resulting underflow corrupts j_last, j_fc_first, and j_free, leading to journal abort. Fix by checking num_fc_blks against j_last before the subtraction, returning -EFSCORRUPTED.

  • Aug 15, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: add journal NULL check in ocfs2_checkpoint_inode() During unmount, ocfs2_journal_shCVE-2026-72161 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: add journal NULL check in ocfs2_checkpoint_inode() During unmount, ocfs2_journal_shutdown() frees the journal and sets osb->journal to NULL. Later, when VFS evicts remaining cached inodes, ocfs2_evict_inode() -> ocfs2_clear_inode() -> ocfs2_checkpoint_inode() -> ocfs2_ci_fully_checkpointed() dereferences osb->journal, causing a NULL pointer dereference. Fix this by adding a NULL check for osb->journal in ocfs2_checkpoint_inode(). If the journal is NULL, it has already been fully flushed and destroyed during shutdown, so there is nothing to checkpoint.

  • May 1, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/ntfs3: validate rec->used in journal-replay file record check check_file_record() validCVE-2026-31716 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/ntfs3: validate rec->used in journal-replay file record check check_file_record() validates rec->total against the record size but never validates rec->used. The do_action() journal-replay handlers read rec->used from disk and use it to compute memmove lengths: DeleteAttribute: memmove(attr, ..., used - asize - roff) CreateAttribute: memmove(..., attr, used - roff) change_attr_size: memmove(..., used - PtrOffset(rec, next)) When rec->used is smaller than the offset of a validated attribute, or larger than the record size, these subtractions can underflow allowing us to copy huge amounts of memory in to a 4kb buffer, generally considered a bad idea overall. This requires a corrupted filesystem, which isn't a threat model the kernel really needs to worry about, but checking for such an obvious out-of-bounds value is good to keep things robust, especially on journal replay Fix this up by bounding rec->used correctly. This is much like commit b2bc7c44ed17 ("fs/ntfs3: Fix slab-out-of-bounds read in DeleteIndexEntryRoot") which checked different values in this same switch statement.

  • Apr 17, 2026SecureDrop Client is a desktop app for journalists to securely communicate with sources and handle submissions on the SecureDrop Workstation.CVE-2026-35465 · Other software · freedomofpress · reported by GitHubHigh 7.5

SecureDrop Client is a desktop app for journalists to securely communicate with sources and handle submissions on the SecureDrop Workstation. In versions 0.17.4 and below, a compromised SecureDrop Server can achieve code execution on the Client's virtual machine (sd-app) by exploiting improper filename validation in gzip archive extraction, which permits absolute paths and enables overwriting critical files like the SQLite database. Exploitation requires prior compromise of the dedicated SecureDrop Server, which itself is hardened and only accessible via Tor hidden services. Despite the high attack complexity, the vulnerability is rated High severity due to its significant impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability of decrypted source submissions. This issue is similar to CVE-2025-24888 but occurs through a different code path, and a more robust fix has been implemented in the replacement SecureDrop Inbox codebase. The issue has been fixed in version 0.17.5.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: don't allow journal inode to have encrypt flag Mounting a filesystem whose journal inode has the encrypt flag causes a NULL dereference in fscrypt_limit_io_blocks() when the 'inlinecrypt' mount option is used. The problem is that when jbd2_journal_init_inode() calls bmap(), it eventually finds its way into ext4_iomap_begin(), which calls fscrypt_limit_io_blocks(). fscrypt_limit_io_blocks() requires that if the inode is encrypted, then its encryption key must already be set up. That's not the case here, since the journal inode is never "opened" like a normal file would be. Hence the crash. A reproducer is: mkfs.ext4 -F /dev/vdb debugfs -w /dev/vdb -R "set_inode_field <8> flags 0x80808" mount /dev/vdb /mnt -o inlinecrypt To fix this, make ext4 consider journal inodes with the encrypt flag to be invalid. (Note, maybe other flags should be rejected on the journal inode too. For now, this is just the minimal fix for the above issue.) I've marked this as fixing the commit that introduced the call to fscrypt_limit_io_blocks(), since that's what made an actual crash start being possible. But t

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: update s_journal_inum if it changes after journal replay When mounting a crafted ext4 image, s_journal_inum may change after journal replay, which is obviously unreasonable because we have successfully loaded and replayed the journal through the old s_journal_inum. And the new s_journal_inum bypasses some of the checks in ext4_get_journal(), which may trigger a null pointer dereference problem. So if s_journal_inum changes after the journal replay, we ignore the change, and rewrite the current journal_inum to the superblock.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bcache: avoid journal no-space deadlock by reserving 1 journal bucket The journal no-space deadlock was reported time to time. Such deadlock can happen in the following situation. When all journal buckets are fully filled by active jset with heavy write I/O load, the cache set registration (after a reboot) will load all active jsets and inserting them into the btree again (which is called journal replay). If a journaled bkey is inserted into a btree node and results btree node split, new journal request might be triggered. For example, the btree grows one more level after the node split, then the root node record in cache device super block will be upgrade by bch_journal_meta() from bch_btree_set_root(). But there is no space in journal buckets, the journal replay has to wait for new journal bucket to be reclaimed after at least one journal bucket replayed. This is one example that how the journal no-space deadlock happens. The solution to avoid the deadlock is to reserve 1 journal bucket in run time, and only permit the reserved journal bucket to be used during cache set registration procedure for things like

The SecureDrop Client is a desktop application for journalists to communicate with sources and work with submissions on the SecureDrop Workstation. Prior to versions 0.14.1 and 1.0.1, an attacker who has already gained code execution in a virtual machine on the SecureDrop Workstation could gain code execution in the `sd-log` virtual machine by sending a specially crafted log entry. The vulnerability is not exploitable remotely and requires an attacker to already have code execution on one of the other virtual machines (VMs) of the system. Due to the Workstation's underlying usage of Qubes for strong isolation, the vulnerability would have allowed lateral movement between any log-enabled VM and the `sd-log` VM, but no further. The SecureDrop workstation collects logs centrally in an isolated virtual machine named `sd-log` for easy export for support and debugging purposes. The `sd-log` VM is completely isolated from the internet and ingests logs via a narrow Qubes RPC policy that allows for specific inter-VM communication via the Xen vchan protocol used by Qubes's qrexec mechanism. A path traversal bug was found in the logic used to choose where to write the log file for a specific

The SecureDrop Client is a desktop application for journalists to communicate with sources and work with submissions on the SecureDrop Workstation. Prior to version 0.14.1, a malicious SecureDrop Server could obtain code execution on the SecureDrop Client virtual machine (`sd-app`). The SecureDrop Client runs in a dedicated Qubes virtual machine, named `sd-app`, as part of the SecureDrop Workstation. The private OpenPGP key used to decrypt submissions and replies is stored in a separate virtual machine and never accessed directly. The vulnerability lies in the code responsible for downloading replies. The filename of the reply is obtained from the `Content-Disposition` HTTP header and used to write the encrypted reply on disk. Note that filenames are generated and sanitized server-side, and files are downloaded in an encry

Where this comes from: the exploited list is CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Everything else is the whole National Vulnerability Database, where each record is published by the team that found the bug (Wordfence, Patchstack, WPScan, the vendors themselves and others); we show who. Exploit odds are FIRST’s EPSS, updated daily. Titles and categories are ours, so check the linked record before acting on a detail. For a write-up of the big ones, see our advisories. Every vendor, and every WordPress plugin and theme with a recorded flaw, also has its own page. All of it is free to reuse as JSON, CSV or RSS.
