Oct 28, 2026ethernet_fill_header() in subsys/net/l2/ethernet/ethernet.c can prepend the Ethernet header in place, by pushing it into the headroom of the packet's first fragCVE-2026-82962 · Other software · zephyrproject · reported by vulnerabilities@zephyrproject.orgMedium 6.5
ethernet_fill_header() in subsys/net/l2/ethernet/ethernet.c can prepend the Ethernet header in place, by pushing it into the headroom of the packet's first fragment, instead of allocating a separate header fragment. Before this fix the in-place path was selected purely from the build-time value of CONFIG_NET_L2_ETHERNET_RESERVE_HEADER, with no check that the packet actually has that headroom, and then called net_buf_push(pkt->buffer, hdr_len). Only Ethernet TX allocations reserve that space: net_pkt_alloc_buffer() invokes the L2 alloc hook (ethernet_l2_alloc()) only when is_pkt_tx() is true and the packet's interface is the Ethernet interface. A packet that was allocated by a different L2 and then handed to Ethernet for transmission therefore has too little (usually zero) headroom. Such packets are produced by ordinary routing and tunnelling paths: net_route_packet_if() re-targets a received packet to another interface when CONFIG_NET_IPV4_FORWARDING / CONFIG_NET_IPV6_FORWARDING are enabled (for example an 802.15.4/OpenThread or PPP interface forwarding to Wi-Fi/Ethernet), net_route_ipv6_mcast_forward_packet() forwards an RX-slab clone that carries no reserve, and the IPIP tunnel

Oct 18, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vxlan: use one headroom snapshot for neighbour replies vxlan_na_create() samples LL_RESERVCVE-2026-98568 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vxlan: use one headroom snapshot for neighbour replies vxlan_na_create() samples LL_RESERVED_SPACE() to size the reply skb and then samples it again to reserve headroom. A concurrent vxlan_changelink() can update needed_headroom between the two reads, creating a TOCTOU race. The second value can exceed the allocation and make the Ethernet header write out of bounds. The race is reproducible on the unpatched kernel. It occurred when vxlan_na_create() generated a neighbour reply while vxlan_changelink() changed the link headroom. KASAN caught a four-byte write two bytes beyond a 704-byte skbuff_small_head allocation. Snapshot the headroom once and use that value for both allocation and reservation.

Oct 18, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vlan: ensure sufficient headroom in vlan_dev_hard_header() Callers that only reserve ETH_HCVE-2026-98554 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vlan: ensure sufficient headroom in vlan_dev_hard_header() Callers that only reserve ETH_HLEN or less (such as llc_alloc_frame()), or skbs allocated before dynamic device/headroom changes (e.g. toggling VLAN_FLAG_REORDER_HDR or bonding/team switching slaves), can reach vlan_dev_hard_header() with insufficient headroom and trigger skb_under_panic(). Use skb_cow_head() in vlan_dev_hard_header() when VLAN_FLAG_REORDER_HDR is not set to ensure sufficient headroom for the VLAN header(s) and the underlying device hard header. Use READ_ONCE() to read dev->hard_header_len and dev->needed_headroom as they can be updated concurrently under RTNL (e.g. in vlan_transfer_features()) while vlan_dev_hard_header() runs locklessly on the transmit path. Also avoid LL_RESERVED_SPACE(dev) here so that the extra HH_DATA_MOD alignment padding does not trigger unnecessary pskb_expand_head() reallocations on inner stacked VLAN devices after the outer VLAN header has been pushed.

Oct 18, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: llc: reserve device headroom for allocated frames llc_alloc_frame() reserves link-layer heCVE-2026-98526 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: llc: reserve device headroom for allocated frames llc_alloc_frame() reserves link-layer headroom using the device type. This is insufficient for stacked Ethernet devices such as VLAN devices, where vlan_dev_hard_header() pushes a VLAN header before the lower device's Ethernet header. An LLC response on such a device can therefore underflow skb headroom in eth_header(). Use LL_RESERVED_SPACE() to account for the device's actual required headroom while preserving the existing LLC device-type check.

Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ppp_async: drop the errored frame instead of resetting its headroom ppp_receive_nonmp_framCVE-2026-98158 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ppp_async: drop the errored frame instead of resetting its headroom ppp_receive_nonmp_frame() prepends a two-byte direction tag before running the pass/active BPF filters: *(__be16 *)skb_push(skb, 2) = htons(PPP_FILTER_INBOUND_TAG); Nothing on the receive path guarantees those two bytes of headroom. The frame-error path in ppp_async's process_input_packet() resets a reused skb's headroom to zero while claiming to restore it to a freshly allocated state - but a fresh skb from dev_alloc_skb() carries NET_SKB_PAD: err: if (skb) { /* make skb appear as freshly allocated */ skb_trim(skb, 0); skb_reserve(skb, - skb_headroom(skb)); } ap->rpkt still points at that skb, so the next frame is reassembled into it with no headroom at all. A peer that sends a bad-FCS frame followed by one beginning ff 03 then leaves a single byte of headroom by the time the filter tag is pushed, which lands one byte below skb->head: skbuff: skb_under_panic: len:49 put:2 head:ffff888003c10000 data:ffff888003c0ffff tail:0x30 end:0x640 dev:<NULL> kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c:214! Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ppp_synctty: ensure a writeable skb header ppp_sync_txmunge() checks headroom before prepeCVE-2026-97964 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ppp_synctty: ensure a writeable skb header ppp_sync_txmunge() checks headroom before prepending the address and control bytes, but does not ensure that the skb header is writable. A received skb can reach this function through PPP channel bridging without passing through ppp_start_xmit(), which calls skb_cow_head(). For example, a PPPoE frame may share its buffer with a clone queued to an AF_PACKET socket. If it is bridged to a synchronous tty channel, the address/control bytes can overwrite data still visible to that socket. Use skb_cow_head() to ensure both sufficient headroom and a writable header.

Sep 17, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: lwt_bpf: Restore reserved headroom after xmit program ip_finish_output2() expands an skb tCVE-2026-90160 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: lwt_bpf: Restore reserved headroom after xmit program ip_finish_output2() expands an skb to LL_RESERVED_SPACE(dev) before LWT xmit. An LWT_XMIT BPF program can then modify the skb head and still return BPF_OK, so bpf_xmit() rechecks the remaining headroom before the skb continues to neighbour output. That recheck uses dst->dev->hard_header_len. This is not enough for the neighbour cached-header path: neigh_hh_output() copies the cached hardware header using the aligned hh_cache size, HH_DATA_MOD for short headers or HH_DATA_ALIGN(hh_len) otherwise. On Ethernet, hard_header_len is 14 but the cached copy needs 16 bytes. If an LWT_XMIT BPF program calls bpf_skb_change_head(skb, 1, 0), the skb can still have 15 bytes of headroom after the program. The existing check accepts that, after which neigh_hh_output() hits its headroom warning and drops the skb. Use LL_RESERVED_SPACE(dst->dev) in the post-BPF headroom check to match the reservation made before LWT xmit.

Sep 11, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: tun: bound receive headroom tun_get_user() uses tun->align both as skb headroom and wCVE-2026-81000 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: tun: bound receive headroom tun_get_user() uses tun->align both as skb headroom and when choosing how much packet data to keep linear. OVS can propagate an oversized headroom request from another port to TUN or TAP. When align is larger than the usable space in a one-page skb head, SKB_MAX_HEAD(align) underflows and the result becomes negative when stored in good_linear. That value later wraps when assigned to the size_t linear variable, and tun_alloc_skb() can place skb->data outside the allocated head. Bound the headroom stored by TUN to the one-page skb-head budget and the largest non-sentinel 16-bit skb header offset. Leave one linear byte for raw TUN and a complete Ethernet header for TAP, including NET_IP_ALIGN. Also pull the raw-TUN protocol byte and the TAP Ethernet header before accessing them, so these checks remain safe for nonlinear skbs supplied by other allocation paths.

Sep 11, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: cap advertised IP tunnel headroom IP tunnel devices derive their advertised needed_heCVE-2026-80978 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: cap advertised IP tunnel headroom IP tunnel devices derive their advertised needed_headroom from lower output devices. A stack of user-created devices can make the derived value larger than the 16-bit skb header offsets can represent. Once IP output reserves it, skb head expansion can wrap those offsets. The runtime transmit path already caps a growing needed_headroom at 512. Apply the same cap when tunnel configuration publishes needed_headroom derived from a lower output device. Capping the advertised value is safe: IP tunnel transmit still expands the skb when a packet needs more headroom. A nonsensical stacked configuration can therefore incur an extra reallocation, but it cannot publish an unbounded reservation to upper layers.

Sep 11, 2026Headroom compresses data before the data reaches a large language model.CVE-2026-71416 · Other software · headroomlabs-ai · reported by GitHubHigh 8.8
Headroom compresses data before the data reaches a large language model. Prior to version 0.35.0, the Headroom WebSocket server does not validate the `Origin` header of incoming client WebSocket requests before forwarding the request to the upstream server, allowing malicious WebSocket clients to perform arbitrary LLM requests without authentication. This can be exploited by a malicious WebSocket client executed in a traditional or headless browser such as lightpanda, if the browser has access to the Headroom proxy and the OpenAI API key is stored in the `OPENAI_API_KEY` environment variable. Version 0.35.0 fixes the issue.

When the underlying phy_dev (or stacked lower device) requires extra headroom or tailroom for headers/trailers (e.g. macsec, ipsec, wireguard, tunnels, or veth with rx headroom), upper layers calculating packet headroom and tailroom fail to reserve sufficient space. This can result in reallocation overhead, skb headroom underflows, or KASAN slab-use-after-free crashes when dev_hard_header() / ipvlan_hard_header() prepends header data or when lower devices append tailroom. Fix this by: 1. Inheriting needed_headroom and needed_tailroom from phy_dev in ipvlan_init(). 2. Propagating needed_headroom and needed_tailroom updates to attached ipvlans in ipvlan_device_event() when receiving NETDEV_FEAT_CHANGE events.

Aug 21, 2026Headroom's LLM proxy derives the memory owner from the x-headroom-user-id request header.CVE-2026-77776 · Other software · Headroom Labs · reported by VulnCheckCritical 9.3
Headroom's LLM proxy derives the memory owner from the x-headroom-user-id request header. The header is read directly at several points in headroom/proxy/handlers/openai.py, including the chat completion and websocket paths, and nothing binds the value to the caller. A client can therefore name another user's identifier and read or write that user's stored LLM memory. The fix introduces a single resolve_memory_identity seam in headroom/proxy/identity.py that honors the header only for loopback or allowlisted callers and otherwise binds the identity to the proxy-token fingerprint or the operating system user. The pip console script binds 127.0.0.1 by default, but the reference docker-compose.yml ships --host 0.0.0.0 with published ports and no required HEADROOM_PROXY_TOKEN, which the server itself warns about at startup, so a deployment following the shipped compose exposes the affected data-plane routes to the network without authentication.

Aug 21, 2026Headroom's LLM proxy lets a client choose the upstream destination with the x-headroom-base-url request header.CVE-2026-77775 · Other software · Headroom Labs · reported by VulnCheckHigh 7.7
Headroom's LLM proxy lets a client choose the upstream destination with the x-headroom-base-url request header. _resolve_openai_upstream_base in headroom/proxy/handlers/openai.py accepts the header value, requires only that it parse with an http or https scheme and a hostname, and returns it for use as the upstream base; _select_passthrough_base_url in headroom/providers/proxy_routes.py reads the same header for the passthrough routes. No check rejects loopback, link-local, or RFC 1918 destinations, and because the component is a proxy the upstream response is returned to the caller, so the request reaches internal services and cloud metadata addresses and their responses are disclosed. The Authorization header accompanying the request is forwarded unchanged to the caller-designated host.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: rpl: reserve mac_len headroom when recompressed SRH grows ipv6_rpl_srh_rcv() decompresses an RFC 6554 Source Routing Header, swaps the next segment into ipv6_hdr->daddr, recompresses, then pulls the old header and pushes the new one plus the IPv6 header back. The recompressed header can be larger than the received one when the swap reduces the common-prefix length the segments share with daddr (CmprI=0, CmprE>0, seg[0][0] != daddr[0] gives the maximum +8 bytes). pskb_expand_head() was gated on segments_left == 0, so on earlier segments the push consumed unchecked headroom. Once skb_push() leaves fewer than skb->mac_len bytes in front of data, skb_mac_header_rebuild()'s call to: skb_set_mac_header(skb, -skb->mac_len); will store (data - head) - mac_len into the u16 mac_header field, which wraps to ~65530, and the following memmove() writes mac_len bytes ~64KiB past skb->head. A single AF_INET6/SOCK_RAW/IPV6_HDRINCL packet over lo with a two segment type-3 SRH (CmprI=0, CmprE=15) reaches headroom 8 after one pass; KASAN reports a 14-byte OOB write in ipv6_rthdr_rcv. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xsk: tighten UMEM headroom validation to account for tailroom and min frame The current headroom validation in xdp_umem_reg() could leave us with insufficient space dedicated to even receive minimum-sized ethernet frame. Furthermore if multi-buffer would come to play then skb_shared_info stored at the end of XSK frame would be corrupted. HW typically works with 128-aligned sizes so let us provide this value as bare minimum. Multi-buffer setting is known later in the configuration process so besides accounting for 128 bytes, let us also take care of tailroom space upfront.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: wlcore: Return -ENOMEM instead of -EAGAIN if there is not enough headroom Since upstream commit e75665dd0968 ("wifi: wlcore: ensure skb headroom before skb_push"), wl1271_tx_allocate() and with it wl1271_prepare_tx_frame() returns -EAGAIN if pskb_expand_head() fails. However, in wlcore_tx_work_locked(), a return value of -EAGAIN from wl1271_prepare_tx_frame() is interpreted as the aggregation buffer being full. This causes the code to flush the buffer, put the skb back at the head of the queue, and immediately retry the same skb in a tight while loop. Because wlcore_tx_work_locked() holds wl->mutex, and the retry happens immediately with GFP_ATOMIC, this will result in an infinite loop and a CPU soft lockup. Return -ENOMEM instead so the packet is dropped and the loop terminates. The problem was found by an experimental code review agent based on gemini-3.1-pro while reviewing backports into v6.18.y.

Dec 8, 2025In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mt76: mt7921: don't assume adequate headroom for SDIO headers mt7921_usb_sdio_tx_prepare_sCVE-2023-53785 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 8.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mt76: mt7921: don't assume adequate headroom for SDIO headers mt7921_usb_sdio_tx_prepare_skb() calls mt7921_usb_sdio_write_txwi() and mt7921_skb_add_usb_sdio_hdr(), both of which blindly assume that adequate headroom will be available in the passed skb. This assumption typically is satisfied when the skb was allocated in the net core for transmission via the mt7921 netdev (although even that is only an optimization and is not strictly guaranteed), but the assumption is sometimes not satisfied when the skb originated in the receive path of another netdev and was passed through to the mt7921, such as by the bridge layer. Blindly prepending bytes to an skb is always wrong. This commit introduces a call to skb_cow_head() before the call to mt7921_usb_sdio_write_txwi() in mt7921_usb_sdio_tx_prepare_skb() to ensure that at least MT_SDIO_TXD_SIZE + MT_SDIO_HDR_SIZE bytes can be pushed onto the skb. Without this fix, I can trivially cause kernel panics by bridging an MT7921AU-based USB 802.11ax interface with an Ethernet interface on an Intel Atom-based x86 system using its onboard RTL8169 PCI Ethernet adapter and also

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: tunnels: annotate lockless accesses to dev->needed_headroom IP tunnels can apparently update dev->needed_headroom in their xmit path. This patch takes care of three tunnels xmit, and also the core LL_RESERVED_SPACE() and LL_RESERVED_SPACE_EXTRA() helpers. More changes might be needed for completeness. Where this comes from: the exploited list is CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Everything else is the whole National Vulnerability Database, where each record is published by the team that found the bug (Wordfence, Patchstack, WPScan, the vendors themselves and others); we show who. Exploit odds are FIRST’s EPSS, updated daily. Titles and categories are ours, so check the linked record before acting on a detail. For a write-up of the big ones, see our advisories. Every vendor, and every WordPress plugin and theme with a recorded flaw, also has its own page. All of it is free to reuse as JSON, CSV or RSS.
