  • Oct 15, 2026OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform.CVE-2026-71490 · Other software · opnsense · reported by GitHubHigh 7.1

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to 26.1.11, OPNsense\Core\ACL::hasPrivilege() appends a directly assigned comma-separated <priv> value as one string and then uses an exact comparison when checking user-config-readonly. A user directly assigned both a component write privilege and user-config-readonly can therefore be treated as lacking the read-only restriction, and MVC APIs protected by throwReadOnly() can persist configuration changes for that component. Group privileges are not affected by the same parser flaw because the group path already splits comma-separated values. This issue is fixed in version 26.1.11.

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.11, the unauthenticated WebGUI login usernamefld accepts carriage-return and line-feed characters that survive LOG_AUTH processing through syslog-ng-lockout.conf into the syslog-ng program destination feeding lockout_handler. The consumer's readline() processing treats an injected fragment as a separate authentication event and selects the first syntactically valid IP address from the forged line. An attacker with network access to the login page can forge failure events for another IP, causing that IP to be added to the sshlockout PF table and its active states to be killed, or forge accepted events that reset an attacker's own brute-force counter. This can block administrative, DNS, gateway, or monitoring addresses and can bypass password-guessing lockout without authentication. This issue is fixed in version 26.1.11.

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.11, the safe-delete path reached through ApiMutableModelControllerBase::delBase() interpolates an unvalidated safe-delete token from the request URL into an XPath expression over config.xml before confirming that the token is a valid identifier. A user holding any one affected module privilege can send a crafted token to one of 21 affected delete endpoints covering Traffic Shaper, DHCP relay, Dnsmasq, Firewall Category, or Kea DHCP, causing the XPath to match configuration data across modules. The resulting error response exposes configuration item names, descriptions, reference paths, and UUIDs and provides an XPath substring-presence oracle, including for modules the user cannot otherwise access. The request does not modify configuration or perform a deletion. This issue is fixed in version 26.1.11.

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.11, src/www/system_advanced_admin.php reads certificate records into $a_cert but omits that array from legacy_html_escape_form_data() before rendering each certificate descr value in the SSL Certificate selector. The certificate description accepts HTML metacharacters, allowing a user with the page-system-certmanager privilege to store markup that executes when another user opens System Settings Administration. • Oct 15, 2026OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform.CVE-2026-58393 · Other software · opnsense · reported by GitHubMedium 5.9

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.11, the OpenVPN Client Specific Override common_name field accepts path traversal sequences and openvpn_csc_conf_write() concatenates the value into /var/etc/openvpn-csc/<vpnid>/<common_name> without normalization or a basename check. The affected event handlers are client_connect.php and user_pass_verify.php. An authenticated user with Client Specific Override privileges can store the traversal value, and a matching OpenVPN client-connect or authentication event causes a generated CSO file to be written outside the intended directory. The file content is generated OpenVPN configuration rather than arbitrary bytes, and practical exploitation requires the attacker to cause a matching common name or username to be processed. This issue is fixed in version 26.1.11.

  • Oct 15, 2026OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform.CVE-2026-58392 · Other software · opnsense · reported by GitHubMedium 5.4

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.11, the NTP GPS page stores the operator-supplied initcmd value in base64 form, applies legacy_html_escape_form_data() to the encoded string, and then uses base64_decode() to decode the value directly into the GPS initialization-command textarea in src/www/services_ntpd_gps.php. Because decoding occurs after escaping, stored HTML remains unescaped at the output sink. A user with page-services-ntp-gps privilege can store a value that closes the textarea, and script executes in the session of any user who later opens the GPS page. The script can read CSRF material and perform authenticated actions, including actions available to an administrator. This issue is fixed in version 26.1.11.

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.11, Firewall Rules and NAT views place stored category names and alias descriptions into HTML title attributes in filter_rule.volt and nat_rule.volt without quote-safe encoding. The response layer uses ENT_NOQUOTES, so a double quote survives and closes the attribute, allowing an event-handler attribute to be added to the existing span. A user with Firewall Categories or Firewall Alias Edit privileges can store a category name or alias description; the category must be assigned to a filter or NAT rule, or the alias must be referenced by a rule source or destination, and the rule must be saved so the affected tooltip is rendered. Script then executes in the session of an administrator or other user who opens the affected Rules or NAT page. The script can access CSRF material and perform authenticated actions as the victim. This issue is fixed in version 26.1.11.

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.11, the OpenVPN connection-status dashboard widget in src/opnsense/www/js/widgets/OpenVPNClients.js and the connection-status view place a client common_name into data-common-name attributes without quote-safe encoding. Exploitation requires an OpenVPN server configured with username-as-common-name and RADIUS or LDAP authentication, plus the ability to provision or self-register a valid backend username containing a double quote; deployments where the same administrator controls both the identity backend and firewall do not cross a separate trust boundary. An authenticated client using that username can close the attribute and add an event handler, while the local user database is not affected because its username validator rejects quotes. Script executes in an administrator's session when the administrator opens the dashboard or connection-status page and the injected event is triggered; the demonstrated payload used pointer movement over the client row rather than unconditional page-load execution. The advisory demonstrates that the script can read config.xml, invoke privileged APIs, reset the root p

OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.11, the Firewall Alias GeoIP importer's process_zip() and process_gzip() paths in src/opnsense/scripts/filter/lib/alias/geoip.py use an unvalidated CSV country_code value to construct output filenames below /usr/local/share/GeoIP/alias. A user with Firewall Alias Edit privilege can configure an attacker-controlled GeoIP source URL and supply an archive whose country code traverses into another existing directory, causing attacker-controlled content to be written as root with an -IPv4 or -IPv6 suffix. A crafted newsyslog fragment and oversized log file can use the default hourly root cron job to execute commands as root, resulting in complete firewall compromise. OPNsense is a FreeBSD based firewall and routing platform. Prior to version 26.1.10, the Trust module stores attacker-controlled certificate authority and certificate refid values and interpolates them into XPath expressions in src/opnsense/mvc/app/models/OPNsense/Trust/FieldTypes/CAsField.php and src/opnsense/mvc/app/models/OPNsense/Trust/FieldTypes/CertificatesField.php. A user with CA Manager or Certificate Manager privileges can submit a crafted refid and repeatedly retrieve the object to obtain a boolean refcount oracle, allowing values in config.xml to be recovered character by character. Exposed values can include password hashes, API credentials, certificate private keys, VPN key material, and high-availability credentials, enabling privilege escalation and compromise of other security domains. When semop(2) blocks waiting for a semaphore condition, it releases the per-set lock and sleeps. Upon waking, it checks the sequence number embedded in the semaphore set's IPC identifier to detect whether the set was removed while the caller was asleep. This sequence number is only 15 bits wide. If enough semaphore sets are created and destroyed in the same table slot while a caller is blocked, the counter wraps around, and semop(2) may falsely conclude that the original set still exists. The subsequent access to a semaphore within the set may then be out of bounds. An unprivileged local user can trigger an out-of-bounds access on kernel heap memory, potentially leading to privilege escalation.

When the PCM sample array needs to grow, the RACK stack doubles a 16-bit allocation counter. Repeated doublings caused the counter to wrap to zero, resulting in a near-zero-length allocation followed by a copy of the existing samples into the undersized buffer. • Sep 21, 2026Ansible FreeBSD Jail Connection Plugin is an Ansible connection plugin for FreeBSD Jails via jexec.CVE-2026-55074 · Other software · chofstede · reported by GitHubHigh 8.2

Ansible FreeBSD Jail Connection Plugin is an Ansible connection plugin for FreeBSD Jails via jexec. Through version 1.3.0, the jailexec connection plugin's put_file resolved a transfer's destination to a path on the jail host ( + ) and ran mkdir -p and mv there as root on the host. Those commands follow symbolic links, and the path was operated on outside the jail, so a symlink existing inside the jail was followed by the host-side, root-privileged mv. A party controlling content inside a managed jail (the jail's root, or any process able to create a symlink in a directory an Ansible task later writes to) can therefore cause an arbitrary root-owned write on the host, outside the jail — a full jail escape. Arbitrary root-owned host writes are readily escalated to host compromise (e.g. cron, rc.d, authorized_keys). Preconditions for this vulnerability are that the operator runs a copy/template/fetch-style task (anything using put_file) against the jail, and the attacker can place a symlink inside the jail at or above the task's destination before the transfer runs. This issue has been fixed in version 2.0.0.

  • Aug 26, 2026In FreeBSD 15.0, the kernel structure used to represent user credentials changed: previously the primary group ID was stored in the first element of the array cCVE-2026-58092 · Other software · FreeBSD · reported by secteam@freebsd.orgHigh 8.1

In FreeBSD 15.0, the kernel structure used to represent user credentials changed: previously the primary group ID was stored in the first element of the array containing the list of supplementary group IDs, whereas now the primary group ID is stored in a dedicated field. This change was largely internal to the kernel and not user-visible. One function, group_is_primary(), was not properly updated as a part of this transition. This function is used by mac_do to determine the primary group ID of the credential after applying a transition rule, used when the rule target does not explicitly specify a group. As a result, with certain mac_do rules, it is possible for a credential switch to incorrectly set the primary group ID to the ID stored in the first element of the original credential's supplementary group array. If the list of supplementary groups is empty, this value will be 0, corresponding to the "wheel" group. • Aug 26, 2026The implementation of this ioctl attempts to acquire locks on all channels in a sync group.CVE-2026-58091 · Other software · FreeBSD · reported by secteam@freebsd.orgHigh 7.8

The implementation of this ioctl attempts to acquire locks on all channels in a sync group. If locking a channel would block, it releases the sync group list lock and sleeps. Upon reawakening, it is possible that the sync group structure is freed, but the implementation did not handle this possibility. On a system with a multiple audio devices, an unprivileged local user can exploit this use-after-free to escalate privileges.

When a process calls execve(2) to execute a setuid or setgid image, hwpmc(4) is supposed to detach PMCs owned by unprivileged processes. An inverted check meant that this scenario was not handled properly. An unprivileged local user who has attached PMCs to a process can continue monitoring it after the process executes a setuid or setgid binary, contrary to the intended policy.

The ELF core dump code counted the number of dumpable VM map entries, allocated a buffer for the corresponding program headers, then iterated over the map a second time to populate them. A process sharing the address space via rfork(2) can mutate the map between the two passes, causing the second pass to write program headers past the end of the buffer. An unprivileged local user sharing an address space with a process that dumps core can trigger an out-of-bounds write on the kernel heap, potentially leading to privilege escalation.

The GETALL and SETALL commands in semctl(2) recorded the number of semaphores in the target set, dropped the lock protecting the set, allocated a buffer sized for that count, and reacquired the lock. A sequence-number check was used to verify that the set had not been replaced in the interim, but the sequence number wraps after 0x8000 create/destroy cycles. By rapidly destroying and recreating semaphore sets at the same index, another process can cause the sequence number to wrap, allowing a set with a different number of semaphores to pass validation. The subsequent copy then reads or writes past the end of the allocated buffer. An unprivileged local user can trigger out-of-bounds reads and writes on kernel heap memory, potentially leading to privilege escalation.

As an inadvertent side effect of an unrelated code change, PRIV_KTRACE was always denied to a jailed root user. Tracing configured by a jailed root user was therefore not flagged as privileged. An unprivileged user in a jail that has permission to debug the target process can modify the jailed root user's ktrace(2) flags, or disable tracing outright. A jailed root user therefore cannot reliably trace unprivileged processes.

To retrieve the previous timer value, the kernel calls realtimer_gettime(), which obtains the current time for the timer's clock. For a timer using CLOCK_TAI this can fail when no TAI offset has been configured, but the error return was not checked, so the uninitialized output buffer was copied to userspace. An unprivileged local user can obtain uninitialized kernel stack memory by creating a POSIX timer with CLOCK_TAI and calling timer_settime(2), potentially disclosing sensitive kernel data.

While the kernel was copying knotes during fork, a knote with a timer-based filter could fire and be enqueued on the kqueue's active list before the copy was complete. The copy routine did not account for this and could enqueue the new knote a second time, corrupting the active list. When building the iovec array for a received TLS 1.2 CBC record, ktls_ocf_tls_cbc_decrypt() incremented the iovec index for every mbuf in the chain, including mbufs that were skipped because they contained only TLS header bytes. This left uninitialized entries in the iovec array. The iovec array was allocated without zeroing. A remote TLS peer can cause the kernel to read from uninitialized iovec entries during HMAC computation, resulting in a kernel panic. The peer must be able to control TCP segmentation such that the first mbuf of a CBC record contains only the 5-byte TLS record header.
