In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: Fix potential UAF/KASAN warning Currently, trace_cachefiles_coherency() is being passed a pointer to a __be64 lain over the coherency data in struct cachefiles_xattr so that it can display the first 8 bytes. However, the data is of variable length and could even be 0 bytes. This could lead to a UAF or KASAN warning. Fix this by making sure the buffer has room for at least 8 bytes and that those 8 bytes are pre-cleared. Further, those bytes are not 8-byte aligned, so fix the tracepoint to extract the data as four 2-byte words (they are 2-byte aligned) and reassemble the __be64. The compiler will convert this into a single 8-byte load where the CPU supports it.

Aug 15, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: Fix double unlock in nomem_d_alloc error path When start_creating() fails and CVE-2026-72368 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: Fix double unlock in nomem_d_alloc error path When start_creating() fails and returns -ENOMEM, it has already released the parent directory lock in __start_dirop(): static struct dentry *__start_dirop(...) { ... inode_lock_nested(dir, I_MUTEX_PARENT); dentry = lookup_one_qstr_excl(name, parent, lookup_flags); if (IS_ERR(dentry)) inode_unlock(dir); <-- Lock released on error return dentry; } However, the nomem_d_alloc error path in cachefiles_get_directory() unconditionally calls inode_unlock(d_inode(dir)) again, causing a double unlock that corrupts the rwsem state. This is a leftover from commit 7ab96df840e60 which replaced manual locking with start_creating() but failed to update the nomem_d_alloc path (while correctly updating mkdir_error and lookup_error paths).

Aug 10, 2026CyberChef is a web app for encryption, encoding, compression, and data analysis.CVE-2026-72912 · Other software · gchq · reported by GitHubMedium 4.3
CyberChef is a web app for encryption, encoding, compression, and data analysis. Prior to 11.3.0, CyberChef's pretty-recipe parser in src/core/Utils.mjs can exhaust client-side CPU when a malformed #recipe= URL fragment containing a large number of unmatched quote characters reaches Utils.parseRecipeConfig(). The function synchronously applies a complex global regular expression that may perform heavy backtracking before rejecting the input, causing the victim's browser tab to freeze during startup for seconds or longer. No code execution, data exfiltration, or privilege escalation occurs. This issue is fixed in version 11.3.0.

Jul 19, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: Fix error return when vfs_mkdir() fails When vfs_mkdir() fails, the error codeCVE-2026-64040 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: Fix error return when vfs_mkdir() fails When vfs_mkdir() fails, the error code is not extracted from the returned error pointer. This causes mkdir_error to be reached with ret=0, which leads to returning ERR_PTR(0) (NULL) instead of a proper error pointer. Fix this by extracting the error code from the error pointer when vfs_mkdir() fails.

Jun 18, 2026Impact A security issue has been identified in Chef 360 that could allow unauthorized access to protected API endpoints under specific conditions.CVE-2026-8100 · Other software · Progress Chef · reported by security@progress.comHigh 8.6
Impact A security issue has been identified in Chef 360 that could allow unauthorized access to protected API endpoints under specific conditions. This issue is due to improper handling of URL-encoded paths during request processing. In certain scenarios, an authenticated request may bypass standard access controls gaining additional privileges, potentially allowing access to API endpoints that are intended to be restricted to higher-permissioned roles. The impact is limited to environments where the affected request patterns can be triggered and depends on specific deployment configuration and access controls in place. Resolution The issue has been addressed through product updates that improve request validation and enforce strict path normalization before authorization checks. Customers are advised to update to the latest available version containing the fix, version 1.7.1 or later.

May 6, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: fix incorrect dentry refcount in cachefiles_cull() The patch mentioned below cCVE-2026-43106 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: fix incorrect dentry refcount in cachefiles_cull() The patch mentioned below changed cachefiles_bury_object() to expect 2 references to the 'rep' dentry. Three of the callers were changed to use start_removing_dentry() which takes an extra reference so in those cases the call gets the expected references. However there is another call to cachefiles_bury_object() in cachefiles_cull() which did not need to be changed to use start_removing_dentry() and so was not properly considered. It still passed the dentry with just one reference so the net result is that a reference is lost. To meet the expectations of cachefiles_bury_object(), cachefiles_cull() must take an extra reference before the call. It will be dropped by cachefiles_bury_object().

The poll routine will iterate the radix tree and dereference cachefiles_req accordingly. Thus RCU read lock is not adequate in this case and spinlock is needed here.

And the request may have not been read yet. Note that when the object is set to reopen, the open request will be done with the still reopen state in above case. As a result, the request corresponding to this object is always skipped in select_req function, so the read request is never completed and blocks other process. Fix this issue by simply set object to close if its id < 0 in copen.

Jul 12, 2024In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: flush all requests after setting CACHEFILES_DEAD In ondemand mode, when the daCVE-2024-40935 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: flush all requests after setting CACHEFILES_DEAD In ondemand mode, when the daemon is processing an open request, if the kernel flags the cache as CACHEFILES_DEAD, the cachefiles_daemon_write() will always return -EIO, so the daemon can't pass the copen to the kernel. Then the kernel process that is waiting for the copen triggers a hung_task. Since the DEAD state is irreversible, it can only be exited by closing /dev/cachefiles. Therefore, after calling cachefiles_io_error() to mark the cache as CACHEFILES_DEAD, if in ondemand mode, flush all requests to avoid the above hungtask. We may still be able to read some of the cached data before closing the fd of /dev/cachefiles. Note that this relies on the patch that adds reference counting to the req, otherwise it may UAF.

Jul 12, 2024In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: defer exposing anon_fd until after copy_to_user() succeeds After installing thCVE-2024-40913 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: defer exposing anon_fd until after copy_to_user() succeeds After installing the anonymous fd, we can now see it in userland and close it. However, at this point we may not have gotten the reference count of the cache, but we will put it during colse fd, so this may cause a cache UAF. So grab the cache reference count before fd_install(). In addition, by kernel convention, fd is taken over by the user land after fd_install(), and the kernel should not call close_fd() after that, i.e., it should call fd_install() after everything is ready, thus fd_install() is called after copy_to_user() succeeds.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: remove requests from xarray during flushing requests Even with CACHEFILES_DEAD set, we can still read the requests, so in the following concurrency the request may be used after it has been freed: mount | daemon_thread1 | daemon_thread2 ------------------------------------------------------------ cachefiles_ondemand_init_object cachefiles_ondemand_send_req REQ_A = kzalloc(sizeof(*req) + data_len) wait_for_completion(&REQ_A->done) cachefiles_daemon_read cachefiles_ondemand_daemon_read // close dev fd cachefiles_flush_reqs complete(&REQ_A->done) kfree(REQ_A) xa_lock(&cache->reqs); cachefiles_ondemand_select_req req->msg.opcode != CACHEFILES_OP_READ // req use-after-free !!! xa_unlock(&cache->reqs); xa_destroy(&cache->reqs) Hence remove requests from cache->reqs when flushing them to avoid accessing freed requests.
