Oct 15, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-61702 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 5.3
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. Prior to 2.4.20, copy_banner() in scheduler/ipp.c uses the attacker-controlled IPP attributes-natural-language value as a directory component beneath DataDir/banners when processing a job-sheets banner. The job-sheets value must first match a registered banner basename, and the traversed path must contain a matching reachable basename; selecting an arbitrary target as demonstrated additionally requires pre-positioned path state such as a symlink with that basename. Subject to the scheduler's filesystem and sandbox access, path separators in the language value can escape the intended banner directory, make the root scheduler open the reachable file, and copy its bytes into a job-sheet spool object that a configured backend can deliver to an attacker-observable endpoint. This issue is fixed in version 2.4.20.

Oct 15, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-55480 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 5.7
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. Prior to 2.4.20, copy_model() in scheduler/ipp.c creates a predictable TempDir/<connection-number>.ppd path in an lp-group-writable directory and opens it as root without O_EXCL or O_NOFOLLOW. Exploitation requires an lp-group process able to write that directory to predict the connection-derived name and plant a symlink before the root open, while a privileged add-printer or modify-printer operation using a model PPD triggers copy_model(). The reporter treats an existing lp foothold and the privileged operation as distinct prerequisites, while the maintainer assesses high privileges because installing the relevant filter or administering the printer requires root or print-administrator access. If the race succeeds, the root scheduler follows the symlink and truncates or overwrites a root-writable target with generated PPD data, compromising file integrity or availability. This issue is fixed in version 2.4.20.

Oct 15, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-55467 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubLow 2.5
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. Prior to 2.4.20, the cupsdCreateJob option-string builder in scheduler/job.c maps attacker-controlled destination-uri and pre-dial-string values from a configured fax queue to the phone and faxPrefix options. Unlike ordinary IPP job attributes, these mapped fax values bypass the control-character sanitizer and are copied directly into the filter options argument. A user permitted to submit a job can therefore inject control characters into the downstream option stream. The reporter states that a downstream fax filter passing these values to a shell or modem command could execute code as lp, while the maintainer states that CUPS has no confidentiality or integrity impact because the only known code-executing filter is optional Foomatic and addressed separately, leaving possible disruption of the affected queue. This issue is fixed in version 2.4.20.

Oct 15, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-55453 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubLow 3.3
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. Prior to 2.4.20, the backend/ipp.c quote_string() function preserves carriage-return and line-feed characters in a remote printer-controlled marker-message before report_attr() writes the value to the scheduler status stream. The scheduler can parse an injected newline as a separate PPD: control line and persist an attacker-selected PPD keyword. The reporter demonstrated that a later print job on a Foomatic-backed queue could consume an injected FoomaticRIPCommandLine value and execute in the filter context as lp. This issue is fixed in version 2.4.20.

Oct 9, 2026A flaw was found in CUPS.CVE-2026-107655 · Other software · Red Hat · reported by Red HatMedium 4
A flaw was found in CUPS. When processing embedded job ticket comments within documents, the service improperly handles specific IPP attributes, causing an unhandled null pointer dereference. An unauthenticated attacker permitted to submit jobs to a shared printer queue can send a crafted Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) request to crash the print daemon, resulting in a temporary Denial of Service (DoS) for all printing services.

Oct 9, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS before 2.4.20 contains a NULL pointer dereference caused by repeated IPP group tags in job-creation requests.CVE-2026-107890 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by MITRELow 3.3
OpenPrinting CUPS before 2.4.20 contains a NULL pointer dereference caused by repeated IPP group tags in job-creation requests. IPP parsing creates unnamed separator attributes with IPP_TAG_ZERO, but add_job() converts these separators to IPP_TAG_JOB. During job startup, get_options()/ipp_length() subsequently calls strlen() on a NULL attribute name, terminating cupsd and disrupting all queues. A single crafted Print-Job request can trigger the crash when the client can reach the scheduler and submit jobs to an accepting, enabled queue supporting the submitted document format. Anonymous submission is possible when permitted by listener and access-control configuration.

OpenPrinting CUPS before 2.4.20 contains a NULL pointer dereference in cupsdCheckJobs() when a job marked job-held-on-create refers to a temporary printer that has been automatically deleted. Temporary-printer cleanup can remove the destination without canceling its held jobs, and the scheduler dereferences the NULL result of cupsdFindDest() while checking holding_new_jobs. This terminates cupsd and interrupts all queues managed by that process. In some plausible scenarios, an unprivileged submission can trigger this.

Oct 9, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS before 2.4.20 contains a double-free in printer-class management.CVE-2026-107886 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by MITRELow 2.3
OpenPrinting CUPS before 2.4.20 contains a double-free in printer-class management. When CUPS-Add-Modify-Class replaces an existing class member list, add_class() frees pclass->printers without clearing the pointer. If subsequent validation fails, the class retains the dangling pointer; CUPS-Delete-Class subsequently frees the same allocation in cupsdDeletePrinter(). A client authorized to modify and delete classes can cause scheduler-wide denial of service. The default policy requires @SYSTEM privileges.

Oct 9, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS through 2.4.20 contains a resource-exhaustion vulnerability in the submission-timeout handling of cupsdCheckJobs().CVE-2026-107885 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by MITRELow 3.3
OpenPrinting CUPS through 2.4.20 contains a resource-exhaustion vulnerability in the submission-timeout handling of cupsdCheckJobs(). The scheduler suppresses timeout processing for all pending jobs whenever any client connection has an in-flight Send-Document operation, without matching that connection to the job being examined. A client allowed to reach the IPP service can hold an incomplete HTTP request containing parsed Send-Document headers before operation authorization, preventing unrelated incomplete jobs from expiring. Where Create-Job submission is allowed, incomplete jobs can accumulate until MaxJobs is exhausted and further legitimate print submissions are rejected. The suppression ends when the held connection closes.

Oct 5, 2026An argument injection flaw was found in CUPS.CVE-2026-105326 · Other software · Red Hat · reported by Red HatLow 2.5
An argument injection flaw was found in CUPS. When email notification is configured, the CUPS scheduler accepts printer subscription requests that supply a mailto notify-recipient-uri. The mailto notifier passes the recipient address to the configured sendmail program without ensuring it cannot be interpreted as command-line options. A remote attacker who can reach the CUPS service could supply a crafted recipient value starting with "-" to influence sendmail behavior. Successful exploitation depends on the installed mail transfer agent and CUPS network exposure, and may lead to execution of attacker-controlled commands with the privileges of the CUPS service user.

Apr 24, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-41079 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 4.3
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. Prior to 2.4.17, a network-adjacent attacker can send a crafted SNMP response to the CUPS SNMP backend that causes an out-of-bounds read of up to 176 bytes past a stack buffer. The leaked memory is converted from UTF-16 to UTF-8 and stored as printer supply description strings, which are subsequently visible to authenticated users via IPP Get-Printer-Attributes responses and the CUPS web interface. Apr 7, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-39316 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 4
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. In versions 2.4.16 and prior, a use-after-free vulnerability exists in the CUPS scheduler (cupsd) when temporary printers are automatically deleted. cupsdDeleteTemporaryPrinters() in scheduler/printers.c calls cupsdDeletePrinter() without first expiring subscriptions that reference the printer, leaving cupsd_subscription_t.dest as a dangling pointer to freed heap memory. The dangling pointer is subsequently dereferenced at multiple code sites, causing a crash (denial of service) of the cupsd daemon. With heap grooming, this can be leveraged for code execution.

Apr 7, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-39314 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 4
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. In versions 2.4.16 and prior, an integer underflow vulnerability in _ppdCreateFromIPP() (cups/ppd-cache.c) allows any unprivileged local user to crash the cupsd root process by supplying a negative job-password-supported IPP attribute. The bounds check only caps the upper bound, so a negative value passes validation, is cast to size_t (wrapping to ~2^64), and is used as the length argument to memset() on a 33-byte stack buffer. This causes an immediate SIGSEGV in the cupsd root process. Combined with systemd's Restart=on-failure, an attacker can repeat the crash for sustained denial of service.

Apr 3, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-34990 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 5
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. In versions 2.4.16 and prior, a local unprivileged user can coerce cupsd into authenticating to an attacker-controlled localhost IPP service with a reusable Authorization: Local ... token. That token is enough to drive /admin/ requests on localhost, and the attacker can combine CUPS-Create-Local-Printer with printer-is-shared=true to persist a file:///... queue even though the normal FileDevice policy rejects such URIs. Printing to that queue gives an arbitrary root file overwrite; the PoC below uses that primitive to drop a sudoers fragment and demonstrate root command execution. At time of publication, there are no publicly available patches.

Apr 3, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-34980 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 6.1
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. In versions 2.4.16 and prior, in a network-exposed cupsd with a shared target queue, an unauthorized client can send a Print-Job to that shared PostScript queue without authentication. The server accepts a page-border value supplied as textWithoutLanguage, preserves an embedded newline through option escaping and reparse, and then reparses the resulting second-line PPD: text as a trusted scheduler control record. A follow-up raw print job can therefore make the server execute an attacker-chosen existing binary such as /usr/bin/vim as lp. At time of publication, there are no publicly available patches.

Apr 3, 2026OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2026-34978 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 6.5
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. In versions 2.4.16 and prior, the RSS notifier allows .. path traversal in notify-recipient-uri (e.g., rss:///../job.cache), letting a remote IPP client write RSS XML bytes outside CacheDir/rss (anywhere that is lp-writable). In particular, because CacheDir is group-writable by default (typically root:lp and mode 0770), the notifier (running as lp) can replace root-managed state files via temp-file + rename(). This PoC clobbers CacheDir/job.cache with RSS XML, and after restarting cupsd the scheduler fails to parse the job cache and previously queued jobs disappear. At time of publication, there are no publicly available patches.

Nov 12, 2025cups-filters contains backends, filters, and other software required to get the cups printing service working on operating systems other than macos.CVE-2025-64503 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 4
cups-filters contains backends, filters, and other software required to get the cups printing service working on operating systems other than macos. In cups-filters prior to 1.28.18, by crafting a PDF file with a large `MediaBox` value, an attacker can cause CUPS-Filter 1.x’s `pdftoraster` tool to write beyond the bounds of an array. First, a PDF with a large `MediaBox` width value causes `header.cupsWidth` to become large. Next, the calculation of `bytesPerLine = (header.cupsBitsPerPixel * header.cupsWidth + 7) / 8` overflows, resulting in a small value. Then, `lineBuf` is allocated with the small `bytesPerLine` size. Finally, `convertLineChunked` calls `writePixel8`, which attempts to write to `lineBuf` outside of its buffer size (out of bounds write). In libcupsfilters, the maintainers found the same `bytesPerLine` multiplication without overflow check, but the provided test case does not cause an overflow there, because the values are different. Commit 50d94ca0f2fa6177613c97c59791bde568631865 contains a patch, which is incorporated into cups-filters version 1.28.18.

Nov 12, 2025CUPS is a standards-based, open-source printing system, and `libcupsfilters` contains the code of the filters of the former `cups-filters` package as library fuCVE-2025-57812 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubLow 3.7
CUPS is a standards-based, open-source printing system, and `libcupsfilters` contains the code of the filters of the former `cups-filters` package as library functions to be used for the data format conversion tasks needed in Printer Applications. In CUPS-Filters versions up to and including 1.28.17 and libscupsfilters versions 2.0.0 through 2.1.1, CUPS-Filters's `imagetoraster` filter has an out of bounds read/write vulnerability in the processing of TIFF image files. While the pixel buffer is allocated with the number of pixels times a pre-calculated bytes-per-pixel value, the function which processes these pixels is called with a size of the number of pixels times 3. When suitable inputs are passed, the bytes-per-pixel value can be set to 1 and bytes outside of the buffer bounds get processed. In order to trigger the bug, an attacker must issue a print job with a crafted TIFF file, and pass appropriate print job options to control the bytes-per-pixel value of the output format. They must choose a printer configuration under which the `imagetoraster` filter or its C-function equivalent `cfFilterImageToRaster()` gets invoked. The vulnerability exists in both CUPS-Filters 1.x and

Sep 11, 2025OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2025-58364 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 6.5
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. In versions 2.4.12 and earlier, an unsafe deserialization and validation of printer attributes causes null dereference in the libcups library. This is a remote DoS vulnerability available in local subnet in default configurations. It can cause the cups & cups-browsed to crash, on all the machines in local network who are listening for printers (so by default for all regular linux machines). On systems where the vulnerability CVE-2024-47176 (cups-filters 1.x/cups-browsed 2.x vulnerability) was not fixed, and the firewall on the machine does not reject incoming communication to IPP port, and the machine is set to be available to public internet, attack vector "Network" is possible. The current versions of CUPS and cups-browsed projects have the attack vector "Adjacent" in their default configurations. Version 2.4.13 contains a patch for CVE-2025-58364.

CUPS is a standards-based, open-source printing system, and `cups-browsed` contains network printing functionality including, but not limited to, auto-discovering print services and shared printers. `cups-browsed` binds to `INADDR_ANY:631`, causing it to trust any packet from any source, and can cause the `Get-Printer-Attributes` IPP request to an attacker controlled URL. When combined with other vulnerabilities, such as CVE-2024-47076, CVE-2024-47175, and CVE-2024-47177, an attacker can execute arbitrary commands remotely on the target machine without authentication when a malicious printer is printed to.

Sep 26, 2024CUPS is a standards-based, open-source printing system, and `libppd` can be used for legacy PPD file support.CVE-2024-47175 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubHigh 8.6
CUPS is a standards-based, open-source printing system, and `libppd` can be used for legacy PPD file support. The `libppd` function `ppdCreatePPDFromIPP2` does not sanitize IPP attributes when creating the PPD buffer. When used in combination with other functions such as `cfGetPrinterAttributes5`, can result in user controlled input and ultimately code execution via Foomatic. This vulnerability can be part of an exploit chain leading to remote code execution (RCE), as described in CVE-2024-47176.

Sep 26, 2024CUPS is a standards-based, open-source printing system, and `libcupsfilters` contains the code of the filters of the former `cups-filters` package as library fuCVE-2024-47076 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubHigh 8.6
CUPS is a standards-based, open-source printing system, and `libcupsfilters` contains the code of the filters of the former `cups-filters` package as library functions to be used for the data format conversion tasks needed in Printer Applications. The `cfGetPrinterAttributes5` function in `libcupsfilters` does not sanitize IPP attributes returned from an IPP server. When these IPP attributes are used, for instance, to generate a PPD file, this can lead to attacker controlled data to be provided to the rest of the CUPS system.

Jun 11, 2024OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.CVE-2024-35235 · Other software · OpenPrinting · reported by GitHubMedium 4.4
OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. In versions 2.4.8 and earlier, when starting the cupsd server with a Listen configuration item pointing to a symbolic link, the cupsd process can be caused to perform an arbitrary chmod of the provided argument, providing world-writable access to the target. Given that cupsd is often running as root, this can result in the change of permission of any user or system files to be world writable. Given the aforementioned Ubuntu AppArmor context, on such systems this vulnerability is limited to those files modifiable by the cupsd process. In that specific case it was found to be possible to turn the configuration of the Listen argument into full control over the cupsd.conf and cups-files.conf configuration files. By later setting the User and Group arguments in cups-files.conf, and printing with a printer configured by PPD with a `FoomaticRIPCommandLine` argument, arbitrary user and group (not root) command execution could be achieved, which can further be used on Ubuntu systems to achieve full root command execution. Where this comes from: the exploited list is CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Everything else is the whole National Vulnerability Database, where each record is published by the team that found the bug (Wordfence, Patchstack, WPScan, the vendors themselves and others); we show who. Exploit odds are FIRST’s EPSS, updated daily. Titles and categories are ours, so check the linked record before acting on a detail. For a write-up of the big ones, see our advisories. Every vendor, and every WordPress plugin and theme with a recorded flaw, also has its own page. All of it is free to reuse as JSON, CSV or RSS.
