Vulnerability database
Every flaw the U.S. government’s cybersecurity agency (CISA) has confirmed attackers are using, plus the new WordPress plugin and theme bugs published each day, sorted by what they mean for a small business. We refresh it twice a day. If you see something your website or office runs, tell us.

CFITSIO through 4.7.0 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in ffgcls2() in getcols.c that trusts attacker-controlled heap descriptor lengths for variable-length string columns. Attackers can supply a crafted FITS file that overflows a fixed 28,800-byte stack buffer and the caller's string array, enabling arbitrary code execution.

CFITSIO through 4.7.0 contains a heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the HCOMPRESS tile decoder that allows attackers to read past the compressed tile buffer via input_nnybble in fits_hdecompress.c. Attackers can supply a crafted FITS file with ZCMPTYPE HCOMPRESS_1 declaring oversized tile geometry to crash applications calling fits_read_pix or disclose limited heap memory.

Oct 15, 2026CFITSIO through 4.7.0 contains a heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the imcompress.c unquantize helpers that allows attackers to read memory before CVE-2026-111124 · Other software · HEASARC · reported by VulnCheckMedium 6.9
CFITSIO through 4.7.0 contains a heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the imcompress.c unquantize helpers that allows attackers to read memory before the fits_rand_value table via a zero or negative ZDITHER0 seed. Attackers can supply a crafted FITS file with a SUBTRACTIVE_DITHER_1 compressed image, read through fits_open_file() and fits_read_pix(), to cause crashes or leak heap contents in decoded pixels.

Jul 16, 2019NASA CFITSIO prior to 3.43 is affected by: Buffer Overflow.CVE-2019-1010060 · Other software · NASA · reported by josh@bress.netCritical 9.8
NASA CFITSIO prior to 3.43 is affected by: Buffer Overflow. The impact is: arbitrary code execution. The component is: over 40 source code files were changed. The attack vector is: remote unauthenticated attacker. The fixed version is: 3.43. NOTE: this CVE refers to the issues not covered by CVE-2018-3846, CVE-2018-3847, CVE-2018-3848, and CVE-2018-3849. One example is ftp_status in drvrnet.c mishandling a long string beginning with a '4' character.

Aug 1, 2018Multiple exploitable buffer overflow vulnerabilities exist in image parsing functionality of the CFITSIO library version 3.42.CVE-2018-3847 · Other software · NASA · reported by talos-cna@cisco.comHigh 8.8
Multiple exploitable buffer overflow vulnerabilities exist in image parsing functionality of the CFITSIO library version 3.42. Specially crafted images parsed via the library, can cause a stack-based buffer overflow overwriting arbitrary data. An attacker can deliver an FIT image to trigger this vulnerability and potentially gain code execution.

Where this comes from: the exploited list is CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Everything else is the whole National Vulnerability Database, where each record is published by the team that found the bug (Wordfence, Patchstack, WPScan, the vendors themselves and others); we show who. Exploit odds are FIRST’s EPSS, updated daily. Titles and categories are ours, so check the linked record before acting on a detail. For a write-up of the big ones, see our advisories. Every vendor, and every WordPress plugin and theme with a recorded flaw, also has its own page. All of it is free to reuse as JSON, CSV or RSS.
