In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/entry_32: Clear CPU buffers after register restore in NMI return CPU buffers are currently cleared after call to exc_nmi, but before register state is restored. This may be okay for MDS mitigation but not for RDFS. Because RDFS mitigation requires CPU buffers to be cleared when registers don't have any sensitive data. Move CLEAR_CPU_BUFFERS after RESTORE_ALL_NMI.

  • May 21, 2024In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/fpu: Prevent state corruption in __fpu__restore_sig() The non-compacted slowpath uses CVE-2021-47227 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/fpu: Prevent state corruption in __fpu__restore_sig() The non-compacted slowpath uses __copy_from_user() and copies the entire user buffer into the kernel buffer, verbatim. This means that the kernel buffer may now contain entirely invalid state on which XRSTOR will #GP. validate_user_xstate_header() can detect some of that corruption, but that leaves the onus on callers to clear the buffer. Prior to XSAVES support, it was possible just to reinitialize the buffer, completely, but with supervisor states that is not longer possible as the buffer clearing code split got it backwards. Fixing that is possible but not corrupting the state in the first place is more robust. Avoid corruption of the kernel XSAVE buffer by using copy_user_to_xstate() which validates the XSAVE header contents before copying the actual states to the kernel. copy_user_to_xstate() was previously only called for compacted-format kernel buffers, but it works for both compacted and non-compacted forms. Using it for the non-compacted form is slower because of multiple __copy_from_user() operations, but that cost is less important than robu

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: riscv: Fix vector state restore in rt_sigreturn() The RISC-V Vector specification states in "Appendix D: Calling Convention for Vector State" [1] that "Executing a system call causes all caller-saved vector registers (v0-v31, vl, vtype) and vstart to become unspecified.". In the RISC-V kernel this is called "discarding the vstate". Returning from a signal handler via the rt_sigreturn() syscall, vector discard is also performed. However, this is not an issue since the vector state should be restored from the sigcontext, and therefore not care about the vector discard. The "live state" is the actual vector register in the running context, and the "vstate" is the vector state of the task. A dirty live state, means that the vstate and live state are not in synch. When vectorized user_from_copy() was introduced, an bug sneaked in at the restoration code, related to the discard of the live state. An example when this go wrong: 1. A userland application is executing vector code 2. The application receives a signal, and the signal handler is entered. 3. The application returns from the signal handler, usi

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nf_tables: restore set elements when delete set fails From abort path, nft_mapelem_activate() needs to restore refcounters to the original state. Currently, it uses the set->ops->walk() to iterate over these set elements. The existing set iterator skips inactive elements in the next generation, this does not work from the abort path to restore the original state since it has to skip active elements instead (not inactive ones). This patch moves the check for inactive elements to the set iterator callback, then it reverses the logic for the .activate case which needs to skip active elements. Toggle next generation bit for elements when delete set command is invoked and call nft_clear() from .activate (abort) path to restore the next generation bit. • Apr 24, 2024A vulnerability in the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) restore functionality that is available in Cisco ASA Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense CVE-2024-20358 · Network & remote access · Cisco · reported by psirt@cisco.comMedium 6

A vulnerability in the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) restore functionality that is available in Cisco ASA Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an authenticated, local attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system with root-level privileges. Administrator-level privileges are required to exploit this vulnerability. This vulnerability exists because the contents of a backup file are improperly sanitized at restore time. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by restoring a crafted backup file to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying Linux operating system as root.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: irqchip/gic-v3-its: Restore quirk probing for ACPI-based systems While refactoring the way the ITSs are probed, the handling of quirks applicable to ACPI-based platforms was lost. As a result, systems such as HIP07 lose their GICv4 functionnality, and some other may even fail to boot, unless they are configured to boot with DT. Move the enabling of quirks into its_probe_one(), making it common to all firmware implementations.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hugetlb, userfaultfd: fix reservation restore on userfaultfd error Currently in the is_continue case in hugetlb_mcopy_atomic_pte(), if we bail out using "goto out_release_unlock;" in the cases where idx >= size, or !huge_pte_none(), the code will detect that new_pagecache_page == false, and so call restore_reserve_on_error(). In this case I see restore_reserve_on_error() delete the reservation, and the following call to remove_inode_hugepages() will increment h->resv_hugepages causing a 100% reproducible leak. We should treat the is_continue case similar to adding a page into the pagecache and set new_pagecache_page to true, to indicate that there is no reservation to restore on the error path, and we need not call restore_reserve_on_error(). Rename new_pagecache_page to page_in_pagecache to make that clear.

  • Apr 4, 2024In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fbcon: always restore the old font data in fbcon_do_set_font() Commit a5a923038d70 (fbdev:CVE-2024-26798 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fbcon: always restore the old font data in fbcon_do_set_font() Commit a5a923038d70 (fbdev: fbcon: Properly revert changes when vc_resize() failed) started restoring old font data upon failure (of vc_resize()). But it performs so only for user fonts. It means that the "system"/internal fonts are not restored at all. So in result, the very first call to fbcon_do_set_font() performs no restore at all upon failing vc_resize(). This can be reproduced by Syzkaller to crash the system on the next invocation of font_get(). It's rather hard to hit the allocation failure in vc_resize() on the first font_set(), but not impossible. Esp. if fault injection is used to aid the execution/failure. It was demonstrated by Sirius: BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: fffffffffffffff8 #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page PGD cb7b067 P4D cb7b067 PUD cb7d067 PMD 0 Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP KASAN CPU: 1 PID: 8007 Comm: poc Not tainted 6.7.0-g9d1694dc91ce #20 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.15.0-1 04/01/2014 RIP: 0010:fbcon_get_font
