Horde Virtual File System (VFS) API before 3.0.1 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in the Horde_Vfs_Smb driver where the _escapeShellCommand() method fails to sanitize command substitution sequences, allowing authenticated attackers to inject arbitrary shell commands through user-controlled filenames. Attackers can supply malicious filenames containing unescaped command substitution payloads through operations such as file upload, folder creation, rename, or deletion, which are interpolated into a double-quoted shell context and executed via proc_open() through /bin/sh -c before smbclient runs, resulting in arbitrary command execution on the underlying system.

Jun 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix NULL-deref of opinfo->conn in oplock/lease break notifiers smb2_oplock_break_noCVE-2026-53271 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix NULL-deref of opinfo->conn in oplock/lease break notifiers smb2_oplock_break_noti() and smb2_lease_break_noti() read opinfo->conn into a local with neither READ_ONCE() nor a NULL check. Both run from oplock_break() after opinfo_get_list() has dropped ci->m_lock, so a concurrent SMB2 LOGOFF (session_fd_check()) can set op->conn = NULL under ci->m_lock within that window. ksmbd_conn_r_count_inc(conn) then writes through NULL at offset 0xc4 -- a remotely triggerable oops. Guard both reads the way compare_guid_key() already does: read opinfo->conn with READ_ONCE() and return early if it is NULL, before allocating the work struct so nothing leaks. A NULL conn means the client is gone and the break is moot, so return 0; oplock_break() treats that as success and runs the normal teardown.

Jun 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free of a deferred file_lock on double SMB2_CANCEL A deferred byte-raCVE-2026-53198 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 8.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free of a deferred file_lock on double SMB2_CANCEL A deferred byte-range lock (an SMB2_LOCK that blocks) registers an async work on conn->async_requests via setup_async_work(), with cancel_fn = smb2_remove_blocked_lock and cancel_argv[0] pointing at the struct file_lock. When the request is cancelled, the worker frees the file_lock with locks_free_lock() and takes the cancelled early-exit, which "goto out"s and never reaches release_async_work() -- the only site that unlinks the work from conn->async_requests and clears cancel_fn/cancel_argv. The work therefore stays matchable on async_requests with a live cancel_fn pointing at the freed file_lock, until connection teardown finally runs release_async_work(). smb2_cancel() fires cancel_fn unconditionally with no state guard, so a second SMB2_CANCEL for the same AsyncId, arriving in that window, re-runs smb2_remove_blocked_lock() on the freed file_lock -- a slab use-after-free: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in __locks_delete_block __locks_delete_block locks_delete_block ksmbd_vfs_posix_lock_unblock smb2_remove_blocked_loc

Jun 24, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free from async crypto on Qualcomm crypto engine ksmbd_crypt_message(CVE-2026-53046 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Critical 9.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free from async crypto on Qualcomm crypto engine ksmbd_crypt_message() sets a NULL completion callback on AEAD requests and does not handle the -EINPROGRESS return code from async hardware crypto engines like the Qualcomm Crypto Engine (QCE). When QCE returns -EINPROGRESS, ksmbd treats it as an error and immediately frees the request while the hardware DMA operation is still in flight. The DMA completion callback then dereferences freed memory, causing a NULL pointer crash: pc : qce_skcipher_done+0x24/0x174 lr : vchan_complete+0x230/0x27c ... el1h_64_irq+0x68/0x6c ksmbd_free_work_struct+0x20/0x118 [ksmbd] ksmbd_exit_file_cache+0x694/0xa4c [ksmbd] Use the standard crypto_wait_req() pattern with crypto_req_done() as the completion callback, matching the approach used by the SMB client in fs/smb/client/smb2ops.c. This properly handles both synchronous engines (immediate return) and async engines (-EINPROGRESS followed by callback notification).

Jun 24, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free in smb2_open during durable reconnect In smb2_open, the call to CVE-2026-53010 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Critical 9.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free in smb2_open during durable reconnect In smb2_open, the call to ksmbd_put_durable_fd(fp) drops the reference to the durable file descriptor early during the durable reconnect process. If an error occurs subsequently (eg, ksmbd_iov_pin_rsp fails) or a scavenger accesses the file, it leads to a use-after-free when accessing fp properties (eg fp->create_time). Move the single put to the end of the function below err_out2 so fp stays valid until smb2_open returns.

Jun 24, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix durable fd leak on ClientGUID mismatch in durable v2 open ksmbd_lookup_fd_cguidCVE-2026-52996 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix durable fd leak on ClientGUID mismatch in durable v2 open ksmbd_lookup_fd_cguid() returns a ksmbd_file with its refcount incremented via ksmbd_fp_get(). parse_durable_handle_context() in the DURABLE_REQ_V2 case properly releases this reference on every path inside the ClientGUID-match branch, either by calling ksmbd_put_durable_fd() or by transferring ownership to dh_info->fp for a successful reconnect. However, when an entry exists in the global file table with the same CreateGuid but a different ClientGUID, the code simply falls through to the new-open path without dropping the reference obtained from ksmbd_lookup_fd_cguid(). Per MS-SMB2 section 3.3.5.9.10 ("Handling the SMB2_CREATE_DURABLE_HANDLE_REQUEST_V2 Create Context"), the server MUST locate an Open whose Open.CreateGuid matches the request's CreateGuid AND whose Open.ClientGuid matches the ClientGuid of the connection that received the request. If no such Open is found, the server MUST continue with the normal open execution phase. A CreateGuid hit with a ClientGUID mismatch is therefore the "Open not found" case: proceeding with a new open

Jun 24, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix FSCTL permission bypass by adding a permission check for FSCTL_SET_SPARSE FSCTLCVE-2026-52944 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix FSCTL permission bypass by adding a permission check for FSCTL_SET_SPARSE FSCTL_SET_SPARSE in fsctl_set_sparse() modifies the file's sparse attribute and saves it through xattr without any permission checks. This exposes two issues: 1) A client on a read-only share can change the sparse attribute on files it opened, even though the share is read-only. Other FSCTL write operations already check test_tree_conn_flag(work->tcon, KSMBD_TREE_CONN_FLAG_WRITABLE), but FSCTL_SET_SPARSE does not. 2) Even on writable shares, clients without FILE_WRITE_DATA or FILE_WRITE_ATTRIBUTES access should not modify the sparse attribute. Similar handle-level checks exist in other functions but are missing here. Add both share-level writable check and per-handle access check. Use goto out on error to avoid leaking file references.

Jun 21, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: scope conn->binding slowpath to bound sessions only When the binding SESSION_SETUP CVE-2026-52911 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 8.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: scope conn->binding slowpath to bound sessions only When the binding SESSION_SETUP sets conn->binding = true, the flag stays set after the call so that the global session lookup in ksmbd_session_lookup_all() can find the session, which was not added to conn->sessions. Because the flag is connection-wide, the global lookup path will also resolve any other session by id if asked. Tighten the global lookup so that the returned session must have this connection registered in its channel xarray (sess->ksmbd_chann_list). The channel entry is installed by the existing binding_session path in ntlm_authenticate()/krb5_authenticate() when a SESSION_SETUP completes successfully, so this condition is a strict equivalent of "this connection has been accepted as a channel of this session". Connections that have not bound to a given session cannot reach it via the global table. The existing conn->binding gate for entering the slowpath is preserved so that non-binding connections keep the fast-path-only behavior, and the session->state check is unchanged.

The Apache Airflow Samba provider's `GCSToSambaOperator` joined GCS object names to the SMB destination path without a containment check, so an object named with `../` segments resolved a write path outside the configured `destination_path`. An attacker able to write objects into the source GCS bucket — typically an external data producer distinct from the trusted DAG author — could write files to arbitrary locations on the Samba target when the operator ran. May 28, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: validate dacloffset before building DACL pointers parse_sec_desc(), build_secCVE-2026-46195 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Critical 9.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: validate dacloffset before building DACL pointers parse_sec_desc(), build_sec_desc(), and the chown path in id_mode_to_cifs_acl() all add the server-supplied dacloffset to pntsd before proving a DACL header fits inside the returned security descriptor. On 32-bit builds a malicious server can return dacloffset near U32_MAX, wrap the derived DACL pointer below end_of_acl, and then slip past the later pointer-based bounds checks. build_sec_desc() and id_mode_to_cifs_acl() can then dereference DACL fields from the wrapped pointer in the chmod/chown rewrite paths. Validate dacloffset numerically before building any DACL pointer and reuse the same helper at the three DACL entry points.

May 28, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: use kzalloc to zero-initialize security descriptor buffer Commit 62e7dd0a39c2CVE-2026-46139 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: use kzalloc to zero-initialize security descriptor buffer Commit 62e7dd0a39c2d ("smb: common: change the data type of num_aces to le16") split struct smb_acl's __le32 num_aces field into __le16 num_aces and __le16 reserved. The reserved field corresponds to Sbz2 in the MS-DTYP ACL wire format, which must be zero [1]. When building an ACL descriptor in build_sec_desc(), we are using a kmalloc()'ed descriptor buffer and writing the fields explicitly using le16() writes now. This never writes to the 2 byte reserved field, leaving it as uninitialized heap data. When the reserved field happens to contain non-zero slab garbage, Samba rejects the security descriptor with "ndr_pull_security_descriptor failed: Range Error", causing chmod to fail with EINVAL. Change kmalloc() to kzalloc() to ensure the entire buffer is zero-initialized. [1] https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/openspecs/windows_protocols/ms-dtyp/20233ed8-a6c6-4097-aafa-dd545ed24428

May 15, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: validate inherited ACE SID length smb_inherit_dacl() walks the parent directory DACCVE-2026-43490 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 8.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: validate inherited ACE SID length smb_inherit_dacl() walks the parent directory DACL loaded from the security descriptor xattr. It verifies that each ACE contains the fixed SID header before using it, but does not verify that the variable-length SID described by sid.num_subauth is fully contained in the ACE. A malformed inheritable ACE can advertise more subauthorities than are present in the ACE. compare_sids() may then read past the ACE. smb_set_ace() also clamps the copied destination SID, but used the unchecked source SID count to compute the inherited ACE size. That could advance the temporary inherited ACE buffer pointer and nt_size accounting past the allocated buffer. Fix this by validating the parent ACE SID count and SID length before using the SID during inheritance. Compute the inherited ACE size from the copied SID so the size matches the bounded destination SID. Reject the inherited DACL if size accumulation would overflow smb_acl.size or the security descriptor allocation size.

May 13, 2026libcurl might in some circumstances reuse the wrong connection for SMB(S) transfers.CVE-2026-5773 · Other software · curl · reported by 2499f714-1537-4658-8207-48ae4bb9eae9High 7.5
libcurl might in some circumstances reuse the wrong connection for SMB(S) transfers. libcurl features a pool of recent connections so that subsequent requests can reuse an existing connection to avoid overhead. When reusing a connection a range of criteria must be met. Due to a logical error in the code, a network transfer operation that was requested by an application could wrongfully reuse an existing SMB connection to the same server that was using a different "share" than the new subsequent transfer should. This could in unlucky situations lead to the download of the wrong file or the upload of a file to the wrong place. When this happens, the same credentials are used and the server name is the same.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free by using call_rcu() for oplock_info ksmbd currently frees oplock_info immediately using kfree(), even though it is accessed under RCU read-side critical sections in places like opinfo_get() and proc_show_files(). Since there is no RCU grace period delay between nullifying the pointer and freeing the memory, a reader can still access oplock_info structure after it has been freed. This can leads to a use-after-free especially in opinfo_get() where atomic_inc_not_zero() is called on already freed memory. Fix this by switching to deferred freeing using call_rcu().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix in-place encryption corruption in SMB2_write() SMB2_write() places write payload in iov[1..n] as part of rq_iov. smb3_init_transform_rq() pointer-shares rq_iov, so crypt_message() encrypts iov[1] in-place, replacing the original plaintext with ciphertext. On a replayable error, the retry sends the same iov[1] which now contains ciphertext instead of the original data, resulting in corruption. The corruption is most likely to be observed when connections are unstable, as reconnects trigger write retries that re-send the already-encrypted data. This affects SFU mknod, MF symlinks, etc. On kernels before 6.10 (prior to the netfs conversion), sync writes also used this path and were similarly affected. The async write path wasn't unaffected as it uses rq_iter which gets deep-copied. Fix by moving the write payload into rq_iter via iov_iter_kvec(), so smb3_init_transform_rq() deep-copies it before encryption.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: require a full NFS mode SID before reading mode bits parse_dacl() treats an ACE SID matching sid_unix_NFS_mode as an NFS mode SID and reads sid.sub_auth[2] to recover the mode bits. That assumes the ACE carries three subauthorities, but compare_sids() only compares min(a, b) subauthorities. A malicious server can return an ACE with num_subauth = 2 and sub_auth[] = {88, 3}, which still matches sid_unix_NFS_mode and then drives the sub_auth[2] read four bytes past the end of the ACE. Require num_subauth >= 3 before treating the ACE as an NFS mode SID. This keeps the fix local to the special-SID mode path without changing compare_sids() semantics for the rest of cifsacl.

May 1, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free in __ksmbd_close_fd() via durable scavenger When a durable file CVE-2026-31718 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Critical 9.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free in __ksmbd_close_fd() via durable scavenger When a durable file handle survives session disconnect (TCP close without SMB2_LOGOFF), session_fd_check() sets fp->conn = NULL to preserve the handle for later reconnection. However, it did not clean up the byte-range locks on fp->lock_list. Later, when the durable scavenger thread times out and calls __ksmbd_close_fd(NULL, fp), the lock cleanup loop did: spin_lock(&fp->conn->llist_lock); This caused a slab use-after-free because fp->conn was NULL and the original connection object had already been freed by ksmbd_tcp_disconnect(). The root cause is asymmetric cleanup: lock entries (smb_lock->clist) were left dangling on the freed conn->lock_list while fp->conn was nulled out. To fix this issue properly, we need to handle the lifetime of smb_lock->clist across three paths: - Safely skip clist deletion when list is empty and fp->conn is NULL. - Remove the lock from the old connection's lock_list in session_fd_check() - Re-add the lock to the new connection's lock_list in ksmbd_reopen_durable_fd().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: require minimum ACE size in smb_check_perm_dacl() Both ACE-walk loops in smb_check_perm_dacl() only guard against an under-sized remaining buffer, not against an ACE whose declared `ace->size` is smaller than the struct it claims to describe: if (offsetof(struct smb_ace, access_req) > aces_size) break; ace_size = le16_to_cpu(ace->size); if (ace_size > aces_size) break; The first check only requires the 4-byte ACE header to be in bounds; it does not require access_req (4 bytes at offset 4) to be readable. An attacker who has set a crafted DACL on a file they own can declare ace->size == 4 with aces_size == 4, pass both checks, and then granted |= le32_to_cpu(ace->access_req); /* upper loop */ compare_sids(&sid, &ace->sid); /* lower loop */ reads access_req at offset 4 (OOB by up to 4 bytes) and ace->sid at offset 8 (OOB by up to CIFS_SID_BASE_SIZE + SID_MAX_SUB_AUTHORITIES * 4 bytes). In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: server: fix active_num_conn leak on transport allocation failure Commit 77ffbcac4e56 ("smb: server: fix leak of active_num_conn in ksmbd_tcp_new_connection()") addressed the kthread_run() failure path. The earlier alloc_transport() == NULL path in the same function has the same leak, is reachable pre-authentication via any TCP connect to port 445, and was empirically reproduced on UML (ARCH=um, v7.0-rc7): a small number of forced allocation failures were sufficient to put ksmbd into a state where every subsequent connection attempt was rejected for the remainder of the boot. ksmbd_kthread_fn() increments active_num_conn before calling ksmbd_tcp_new_connection() and discards the return value, so when alloc_transport() returns NULL the socket is released and -ENOMEM returned without decrementing the counter. Each such failure permanently consumes one slot from the max_connections pool; once cumulative failures reach the cap, atomic_inc_return() hits the threshold on every subsequent accept and every new connection is rejected. The counter is only reset by module reload. An unauthenticated remote attacker

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: validate the whole DACL before rewriting it in cifsacl build_sec_desc() and id_mode_to_cifs_acl() derive a DACL pointer from a server-supplied dacloffset and then use the incoming ACL to rebuild the chmod/chown security descriptor. The original fix only checked that the struct smb_acl header fits before reading dacl_ptr->size or dacl_ptr->num_aces. That avoids the immediate header-field OOB read, but the rewrite helpers still walk ACEs based on pdacl->num_aces with no structural validation of the incoming DACL body. A malicious server can return a truncated DACL that still contains a header, claims one or more ACEs, and then drive replace_sids_and_copy_aces() or set_chmod_dacl() past the validated extent while they compare or copy attacker-controlled ACEs. Factor the DACL structural checks into validate_dacl(), extend them to validate each ACE against the DACL bounds, and use the shared validator before the chmod/chown rebuild paths. parse_dacl() reuses the same validator so the read-side parser and write-side rewrite paths agree on what constitutes a well-formed incoming DACL.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix OOB read in smb2_ioctl_query_info QUERY_INFO path smb2_ioctl_query_info() has two response-copy branches: PASSTHRU_FSCTL and the default QUERY_INFO path. The QUERY_INFO branch clamps qi.input_buffer_length to the server-reported OutputBufferLength and then copies qi.input_buffer_length bytes from qi_rsp->Buffer to userspace, but it never verifies that the flexible-array payload actually fits within rsp_iov[1].iov_len. A malicious server can return OutputBufferLength larger than the actual QUERY_INFO response, causing copy_to_user() to walk past the response buffer and expose adjacent kernel heap to userspace. Guard the QUERY_INFO copy with a bounds check on the actual Buffer payload. Use struct_size(qi_rsp, Buffer, qi.input_buffer_length) rather than an open-coded addition so the guard cannot overflow on 32-bit builds.
