Feb 26, 2025In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: clocksource: hyper-v: unexport __init-annotated hv_init_clocksource() EXPORT_SYMBOL and __CVE-2022-49726 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: clocksource: hyper-v: unexport __init-annotated hv_init_clocksource() EXPORT_SYMBOL and __init is a bad combination because the .init.text section is freed up after the initialization. Hence, modules cannot use symbols annotated __init. The access to a freed symbol may end up with kernel panic. modpost used to detect it, but it has been broken for a decade. Recently, I fixed modpost so it started to warn it again, then this showed up in linux-next builds. There are two ways to fix it: - Remove __init - Remove EXPORT_SYMBOL I chose the latter for this case because the only in-tree call-site, arch/x86/kernel/cpu/mshyperv.c is never compiled as modular. Commit 28438794aba4 ("modpost: fix section mismatch check for exported init/exit sections") fixed it so modpost started to warn it again, then this showed up: MODPOST vmlinux.symvers WARNING: modpost: vmlinux.o(___ksymtab_gpl+tick_nohz_full_setup+0x0): Section mismatch in reference from the variable __ksymtab_tick_nohz_full_setup to the function .init.text:tick_nohz_full_setup() The symbol tick_nohz_full_setup is exported and annotated __init Fix this by removing the __init annotation of tick_nohz_full_setup or drop the export. Drop the export because tick_nohz_full_setup() is only called from the built-in code in kernel/sched/isolation.c.

Where this comes from: the exploited list is CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Everything else is the whole National Vulnerability Database, where each record is published by the team that found the bug (Wordfence, Patchstack, WPScan, the vendors themselves and others); we show who. Exploit odds are FIRST’s EPSS, updated daily. Titles and categories are ours, so check the linked record before acting on a detail. For a write-up of the big ones, see our advisories. Every vendor, and every WordPress plugin and theme with a recorded flaw, also has its own page. All of it is free to reuse as JSON, CSV or RSS.
