  • Aug 19, 2026In Splunk SOAR versions below 8.6.0, a user who holds the Administrator role could use path traversal in the Universal Forwarder installer's archive extraction CVE-2026-76359 · Other software · Splunk · reported by psirt@cisco.comMedium 6.5

In Splunk SOAR versions below 8.6.0, a user who holds the Administrator role could use path traversal in the Universal Forwarder installer's archive extraction to write files outside the intended installation directory. The vulnerability is possible because the Universal Forwarder credentials-package extraction workflow does not verify that each archive member remains within the intended destination before extraction. • Aug 19, 2026The tarfile module's tar and data extraction filters created directories outside the destination for members whose name leaves the destination and returns to CVE-2026-19672 · Other software · Python Software Foundation · reported by cna@python.orgMedium 6.3

The tarfile module's tar and data extraction filters created directories outside the destination for members whose name leaves the destination and returns to it, such as ../evil/../dest/sub/file. The containment check used the resolved path, but intermediate directories were created from the name as given. Only empty directories are created outside the destination. Member contents are still extracted inside it. To return to the destination the member's name must contain the destination directory's own final component, so extraction into a secure randomised directory is not affected. This affects POSIX platforms only. On Windows, .. components are collapsed before the path reaches the filesystem, so the directories outside the destination are never created.

  • Aug 18, 2026Malcolm's upload-processing pipeline (scripts/safe-extract.py) enforces entry-count, nesting-depth, and total-uncompressed-byte limits when extracting containerCVE-2026-19671 · Other software · CISAgov · reported by ics-cert@hq.dhs.govHigh 7.1

Malcolm's upload-processing pipeline (scripts/safe-extract.py) enforces entry-count, nesting-depth, and total-uncompressed-byte limits when extracting container archives (zip/tar/rar/7z via libarchive), but those limits are not applied when the uploaded file is a single-stream compressed format (.gz, .bz2, .xz, .lzma, .lz) that isn't a .tar.*-style archive. Any authenticated user permitted to upload PCAP/log files can upload a small, highly compressible file (e.g. a gzip bomb) that decompresses to an effectively unbounded size on disk, exhausting the shared Docker volume used by OpenSearch, Logstash, Arkime, and Zeek, and disrupting the platform for all users.

  • Aug 18, 2026The tar extraction routines in moby/go-archive (Unpack, UnpackLayer, Untar/UntarUncompressed, and the ApplyLayer helpers) do not confine filesystem operations tCVE-2026-17106 · Other software · moby · reported by security@docker.comHigh 7.1

The tar extraction routines in moby/go-archive (Unpack, UnpackLayer, Untar/UntarUncompressed, and the ApplyLayer helpers) do not confine filesystem operations to the destination directory. The extractor decides where each archive entry lands using lexical string checks and then performs the filesystem operation on a path that is resolved by the OS, so links introduced by the archive can be followed out of the destination directory. An attacker who controls the contents of an archive can create or overwrite files at arbitrary paths writable by the extracting process.

  • Aug 18, 2026The Apify MCP server enables AI agents to extract data from websites using ready-made scrapers, crawlers, and automation tools available on the Apify Store.CVE-2026-50143 · Other software · apify · reported by GitHubHigh 8.1

The Apify MCP server enables AI agents to extract data from websites using ready-made scrapers, crawlers, and automation tools available on the Apify Store. Prior to 0.10.11, getActorMCPServerURL in src/mcp/actors.ts concatenates the trusted Actor standby URL with the attacker-controlled webServerMcpPath from an Actor definition without verifying the resulting origin, allowing a malicious Actor publisher to use a userinfo-style authority value to redirect connectMCPClient to a third-party host. The call-actor, fetch-actor-details, and actor-mcp tool-loading paths pass this URL to transports in src/mcp/client.ts that attach the victim Authorization bearer token, exposing the Apify API token and enabling access to Actors, stored data, and billable compute. A victim must invoke or inspect the attacker-controlled Actor. This issue is fixed in version 0.10.11.

  • Aug 15, 2026Pandora contains a path traversal vulnerability in its TAR archive extraction functionality.CVE-2026-74764 · Other software · pandora-analysis · reported by 5a6e4751-2f3f-4070-9419-94fb35b644e8Critical 10

Pandora contains a path traversal vulnerability in its TAR archive extraction functionality. When processing a submitted TAR archive, the extractor passed archive member names directly to Python's tarfile.TarFile.extract() without applying an extraction filter. An attacker able to submit a specially crafted TAR archive containing malicious member paths, such as paths using ../ sequences or absolute paths, could cause extracted files to be written outside the intended extraction directory. This may allow the attacker to overwrite files accessible to the Pandora worker process and could potentially result in application compromise, arbitrary code execution, or denial of service depending on the files targeted and the privileges of the Pandora process. The vulnerability is corrected by using Python's filter='data' extraction filter, which rejects or sanitizes dangerous TAR members, including paths that escape the destination directory and unsafe link targets. The weakness corresponds to MITRE's general path traversal category, which includes archive extraction cases where attacker-controlled filenames cause files to be written outside the intended directory.

  • Aug 10, 2026When expanding paths that begin with a tilde (~) followed by a username, the internal parse_tilde function extracts the username to determine the user's home diCVE-2026-6791 · Other software · The GNU C Library · reported by 3ff69d7a-14f2-4f67-a097-88dee7810d18Medium 6.6

When expanding paths that begin with a tilde (~) followed by a username, the internal parse_tilde function extracts the username to determine the user's home directory. The implementation allocates memory for this username directly on the stack using the strndupa macro. Because the size of this allocation was determined by the length of the user-supplied input without any bounds checks, passing an excessively long username e.g. thousands of characters, forces the thread to exhaust its stack space. Thus if an application passes untrusted, attacker-controlled input to the wordexp function, an attacker can trigger a stack clash.

  • Aug 10, 2026GNU cpio contains a Path Traversal vulnerability in its tar archive extraction functionality.CVE-2026-66484 · Other software · GNU · reported by cvd@cert.plMedium 4.6

GNU cpio contains a Path Traversal vulnerability in its tar archive extraction functionality. When extracting a tar archive in copy-in mode with the --no-absolute-filenames option, the extracted file name is normalized but the tar hard-link target is passed to the link_to_name function without equivalent sanitization before calling link function. A tar archive provided by an attacker, containing a hard-link entry whose linkname is set to an absolute path outside the extraction directory, can cause cpio to create a hard link to an existing file outside the intended extraction directory, breaking the expected guarantee of --no-absolute-filenames and allowing archive-controlled linkage to external files. The OCPP 1.6 client in subsys/net/lib/ocpp parsed inbound WAMP RPC frames in parse_rpc_msg() (subsys/net/lib/ocpp/ocpp_j.c) using a hand-rolled helper, extract_string_field(), that copied the message's uid and action fields with strncpy(out_buf, token + 1, outlen - 1) and then scanned the result with strchr(out_buf, '"'). Because strncpy does not NUL-terminate the destination when the source is at least outlen - 1 (127) bytes long, the subsequent strchr reads past the 128-byte destination buffer into adjacent stack memory; if a " byte is found beyond the buffer, a one-byte out-of-bounds NUL write also occurs. A related defect in extract_payload() runs strchr/strrchr over the receive buffer, which may not be NUL-terminated when a maximal-length frame fills it. The parsed bytes come directly from the OCPP central-system server over a websocket: the reader thread fills recv_buf via websocket_recv_msg() and calls parse_rpc_msg() on each inbound DATA frame (subsys/net/lib/ocpp/ocpp.c). A malicious or compromised central server, or an on-path attacker (OCPP is commonly deployed over plain ws://), can send an RPC frame whose uid or action field is 127+ bytes with no closing quote, trigge

Relative Path Traversal vulnerability in Erlang OTP (stdlib zip module) allows writing files outside the intended extraction directory via a crafted zip archive. zip:unzip/1,2 and zip:extract/1,2 validate entry paths using zip:check_dir_level/2, which tracks directory depth as a running integer counter: .. decrements it, normal path components increment it. The caller rejects only paths where the final counter value is less than zero. A path such as ../x/y causes the counter to go negative mid-traversal then recover to zero, passing validation while resolving to a location outside the extraction directory when joined with the current working directory via add_cwd. Likeshop through 3.0.5 contains an authenticated SQL injection vulnerability that allows admin-level users to extract arbitrary database contents by submitting unsanitized POST parameters to the adjustAccount endpoint. The adjustAccount method in UserLogic.php concatenates the money, integral, growth, and earnings parameters directly into Db::raw() SQL fragments without type casting, numeric validation, or parameter binding, enabling boolean-based binary-search extraction of credentials, PII, and session tokens via distinct success and failure response messages.

Prior to 0.9.21, the fetch-apify-docs tool in src/tools/common/fetch_apify_docs.ts validates allowlisted documentation domains with String.startsWith() rather than URL hostname comparison, allowing attacker-controlled URLs such as `https://docs.apify.com.evil.com/` and `https://docs.apify.com@evil.com/` to pass the ALLOWED_DOC_DOMAINS check and return arbitrary fetched content to the LLM. • Jul 14, 2026The decompress package for Node.js extracts archives.CVE-2026-53486 · Other software · XhmikosR · reported by GitHubCritical 9.1

The decompress package for Node.js extracts archives. Prior to 10.2.1 and 11.1.3, archive extraction can create files and links outside the target directory. When extracting an archive to a directory, a crafted archive can read or write files outside that directory because hardlink and symlink entries are created without checking where targets point, path containment used a string prefix comparison, and file modes failed to remove setuid, setgid, or sticky bits. This issue is fixed in @xhmikosr/decompress versions 10.2.1 and 11.1.3.

  • Jul 9, 2026decompress before 4.2.2 allows arbitrary symlink creation during archive extraction.CVE-2026-39246 · Other software · Decompress Project · reported by MITREHigh 7.5

decompress before 4.2.2 allows arbitrary symlink creation during archive extraction. When processing symlink entries (type === 'symlink'), the x.linkname field from the archive is passed directly to fs.symlink() without validation (index.js line 121). The preventWritingThroughSymlink check on line 98 only applies to file entries, not symlink creation. An attacker can craft an archive with symlink entries pointing to sensitive files outside the extraction directory (e.g., /etc/passwd), enabling information disclosure when the application reads the extracted contents.

  • Jul 9, 2026decompress before 4.2.2 allows arbitrary hardlink creation during archive extraction, enabling file read disclosure and file corruption.CVE-2026-39243 · Other software · Decompress Project · reported by MITREMedium 5.5

decompress before 4.2.2 allows arbitrary hardlink creation during archive extraction, enabling file read disclosure and file corruption. When processing hardlink entries (type === 'link'), the x.linkname field from the archive is passed directly to fs.link() without validation (index.js line 113). An attacker can craft an archive with a hardlink entry whose linkname is an absolute path to any file on the same filesystem. This creates a hardlink inside the extraction directory that shares the same inode as the target file, enabling both reading and overwriting the original file's content. Hardlinks are limited to files on the same filesystem and cannot target directories.

BBOT's unarchive module rejects archives containing symlink entries before extraction, but for zip and 7z archives it failed to detect symlinks whose listing carries a DOS-attribute prefix before the unix mode, as produced by legacy versions of p7zip. Such an archive, downloaded and extracted during a scan (for example via filedownload), bypassed the guard and caused an attacker-controlled symlink to be written into the extraction directory. The effect is limited to planting the symlink (its target is not written through), and only hosts using such a legacy p7zip build are affected; current mainline 7-Zip is not.

SzafirHost verifies the downloaded native library archive with one JarFile parser (reading the Central Directory) but extracts native libraries with JarInputStream parser (reading sequentially from local file headers). An attacker who controls the served archive can insert a malicious DLL/SO/DYLIB as a local-file-header entry between the last legitimate entry and the Central Directory, without adding it to the Central Directory. The signature verifier never sees the injected entry and accepts the archive as validly signed; the extractor reads it sequentially and writes the attacker library to the native temp directory with no hash check), while the archive-size check still passes. This can lead to remote code execution. This issue was fixed in version 1.2.2.
