    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSv4.2: fix reference count leaks in _nfs42_proc_copy_notify() [You don't often get email from xiongx18@fudan.edu.cn. Learn why this is important at http://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification.] The reference counting issue happens in two error paths in the function _nfs42_proc_copy_notify(). In both error paths, the function simply returns the error code and forgets to balance the refcount of object `ctx`, bumped by get_nfs_open_context() earlier, which may cause refcount leaks. Fix it by balancing refcount of the `ctx` object before the function returns in both error paths.

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fsnotify: Fix ordering of iput() and watched_objects decrement Ensure the superblock is kept alive until we're done with iput(). Holding a reference to an inode is not allowed unless we ensure the superblock stays alive, which fsnotify does by keeping the watched_objects count elevated, so iput() must happen before the watched_objects decrement. This can lead to a UAF of something like sb->s_fs_info in tmpfs, but the UAF is hard to hit because race orderings that oops are more likely, thanks to the CHECK_DATA_CORRUPTION() block in generic_shutdown_super(). Also, ensure that fsnotify_put_sb_watched_objects() doesn't call fsnotify_sb_watched_objects() on a superblock that may have already been freed, which would cause a UAF read of sb->s_fsnotify_info.

  • Oct 21, 2024In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: static_call: Replace pointless WARN_ON() in static_call_module_notify() static_call_moduleCVE-2024-49954 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: static_call: Replace pointless WARN_ON() in static_call_module_notify() static_call_module_notify() triggers a WARN_ON(), when memory allocation fails in __static_call_add_module(). That's not really justified, because the failure case must be correctly handled by the well known call chain and the error code is passed through to the initiating userspace application. A memory allocation fail is not a fatal problem, but the WARN_ON() takes the machine out when panic_on_warn is set. Replace it with a pr_warn().

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fsnotify: clear PARENT_WATCHED flags lazily In some setups directories can have many (usually negative) dentries. Hence __fsnotify_update_child_dentry_flags() function can take a significant amount of time. Since the bulk of this function happens under inode->i_lock this causes a significant contention on the lock when we remove the watch from the directory as the __fsnotify_update_child_dentry_flags() call from fsnotify_recalc_mask() races with __fsnotify_update_child_dentry_flags() calls from __fsnotify_parent() happening on children. This can lead upto softlockup reports reported by users. Fix the problem by calling fsnotify_update_children_dentry_flags() to set PARENT_WATCHED flags only when parent starts watching children. When parent stops watching children, clear false positive PARENT_WATCHED flags lazily in __fsnotify_parent() for each accessed child.

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fuse: Initialize beyond-EOF page contents before setting uptodate fuse_notify_store(), unlike fuse_do_readpage(), does not enable page zeroing (because it can be used to change partial page contents). So fuse_notify_store() must be more careful to fully initialize page contents (including parts of the page that are beyond end-of-file) before marking the page uptodate. The current code can leave beyond-EOF page contents uninitialized, which makes these uninitialized page contents visible to userspace via mmap(). This is an information leak, but only affects systems which do not enable init-on-alloc (via CONFIG_INIT_ON_ALLOC_DEFAULT_ON=y or the corresponding kernel command line parameter).

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: macsec: Fix offload support for NETDEV_UNREGISTER event Current macsec netdev notify handler handles NETDEV_UNREGISTER event by releasing relevant SW resources only, this causes resources leak in case of macsec HW offload, as the underlay driver was not notified to clean it's macsec offload resources. Fix by calling the underlay driver to clean it's relevant resources by moving offload handling from macsec_dellink() to macsec_common_dellink() when handling NETDEV_UNREGISTER event.

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i2c: virtio: fix completion handling The driver currently assumes that the notify callback is only received when the device is done with all the queued buffers. However, this is not true, since the notify callback could be called without any of the queued buffers being completed (for example, with virtio-pci and shared interrupts) or with only some of the buffers being completed (since the driver makes them available to the device in multiple separate virtqueue_add_sgs() calls). This can lead to incorrect data on the I2C bus or memory corruption in the guest if the device operates on buffers which are have been freed by the driver. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpiolib: cdev: Fix use after free in lineinfo_changed_notify The use-after-free issue occurs as follows: when the GPIO chip device file is being closed by invoking gpio_chrdev_release(), watched_lines is freed by bitmap_free(), but the unregistration of lineinfo_changed_nb notifier chain failed due to waiting write rwsem. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: leds: trigger: netdev: Fix kernel panic on interface rename trig notify Commit d5e01266e7f5 ("leds: trigger: netdev: add additional specific link speed mode") in the various changes, reworked the way to set the LINKUP mode in commit cee4bd16c319 ("leds: trigger: netdev: Recheck NETDEV_LED_MODE_LINKUP on dev rename") and moved it to a generic function. This changed the logic where, in the previous implementation the dev from the trigger event was used to check if the carrier was ok, but in the new implementation with the generic function, the dev in trigger_data is used instead. This is problematic and cause a possible kernel panic due to the fact that the dev in the trigger_data still reference the old one as the new one (passed from the trigger event) still has to be hold and saved in the trigger_data struct (done in the NETDEV_REGISTER case). On calling of get_device_state(), an invalid net_dev is used and this cause a kernel panic. To handle this correctly, move the call to get_device_state() after the new net_dev is correctly set in trigger_data (in the NETDEV_REGISTER case) and correctly parse the new de

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tls: fix race between async notify and socket close The submitting thread (one which called recvmsg/sendmsg) may exit as soon as the async crypto handler calls complete() so any code past that point risks touching already freed data. Try to avoid the locking and extra flags altogether. Have the main thread hold an extra reference, this way we can depend solely on the atomic ref counter for synchronization. Don't futz with reiniting the completion, either, we are now tightly controlling when completion fires.

Where this comes from: the exploited list is CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Everything else is the whole National Vulnerability Database, where each record is published by the team that found the bug (Wordfence, Patchstack, WPScan, the vendors themselves and others); we show who. Exploit odds are FIRST’s EPSS, updated daily. Titles and categories are ours, so check the linked record before acting on a detail. For a write-up of the big ones, see our advisories. Every vendor, and every WordPress plugin and theme with a recorded flaw, also has its own page. All of it is free to reuse as JSON, CSV or RSS.
