  • Aug 12, 2026Prompty is a markdown file format (.prompty) for LLM prompts.CVE-2026-73299 · Computers, phones & browsers · microsoft · reported by GitHubCritical 10

Prompty is a markdown file format (.prompty) for LLM prompts. Prior to 0.1.5 and 2.0.0-beta.5, the TypeScript Nunjucks renderer evaluated untrusted .prompty template bodies with unrestricted JavaScript member access. An attacker-controlled template could traverse constructor and prototype properties to execute JavaScript in the host Node.js process. This issue is fixed in versions 0.1.5 and 2.0.0-beta.5.

  • Aug 10, 2026Firecrawl turns entire websites into LLM-ready markdown or structured data.CVE-2026-72904 · Other software · firecrawl · reported by GitHubCritical 9.3

Firecrawl turns entire websites into LLM-ready markdown or structured data. Prior to 2.11.32, a critical arbitrary file read vulnerability exists in Firecrawl's extraction functionality due to unsafe schema dereferencing of user-supplied JSON schemas in apps/api/src/lib/extract/helpers/dereference-schema.ts. The affected code invokes the json-schema-ref-parser dependency with default resolver settings, allowing external and local file references to be resolved during schema processing. An authenticated attacker can supply a malicious schema containing a $ref within default, const, or enum fields that are not traversed by AJV validation. By triggering a dereference error, file contents from the extract worker filesystem may be included in persisted error messages returned through the extraction API, enabling arbitrary file reads and SSRF against internal or external HTTP endpoints. This issue is fixed in version 2.11.32.

  • Aug 6, 2026league/commonmark is a PHP library for parsing and rendering CommonMark Markdown.CVE-2026-71488 · Other software · thephpleague · reported by GitHubHigh 7.5

league/commonmark is a PHP library for parsing and rendering CommonMark Markdown. From 0.6.0 until 2.9.0, specially crafted Markdown lines can cause the parser to have quadratic time complexity when converting, because several parsing paths repeatedly rescan growing portions of a line to translate between character positions and byte positions, and the Autolink extension can also copy and validate the remaining line at every URL-like prefix, allowing an attacker who can submit Markdown for conversion to consume disproportionate CPU time with a comparatively small request. This issue is fixed in 2.9.0.

  • Aug 6, 2026Mermaid is a JavaScript tool that uses Markdown-inspired text to create and modify diagrams and charts.CVE-2026-71438 · Other software · mermaid-js · reported by GitHubLow 2.4

Mermaid is a JavaScript tool that uses Markdown-inspired text to create and modify diagrams and charts. Prior to 10.9.8 and 11.16.1, Mermaid's configuration setters (mermaid.initialize, mermaidAPI.setConfig, and mermaidAPI.updateSiteConfig) merge caller-supplied configuration into Mermaid's internal config using the assignWithDepth deep-merge helper, which is vulnerable to prototype pollution. This is only exploitable if an application forwards untrusted data directly into one of these configuration entry points, which is outside their documented usage; diagram-supplied configuration (e.g. %%{init: {}}%% or YAML frontmatter) is not affected. • Aug 6, 2026pymdown-extensions is a collection of extensions for the Python Markdown library.CVE-2026-67422 · Other software · facelessuser · reported by GitHubHigh 7.5

pymdown-extensions is a collection of extensions for the Python Markdown library. In versions up to and including 11.0, four inline processors (caret, tilde, betterem, and magiclink) use regular expressions whose content groups can partition a run of delimiter characters in exponentially many ways, causing catastrophic backtracking. As a result, a single untrusted Markdown line under 50 bytes rendered with markdown.markdown() in each extension's default configuration drives the rendering thread into unbounded CPU usage that grows exponentially with input length, enabling an unauthenticated remote attacker who can submit Markdown to cause denial of service. The exposure is concrete for web applications that render user-supplied Markdown (comments, wikis, issue bodies, live preview), including any app using pymdownx.extra which bundles the vulnerable betterem default, as well as hosted docs/CI systems that build untrusted Markdown. The issue has been fixed in version 11.0.1.

  • Aug 6, 2026PyMdown Extensions is a set of extensions for the Python-Markdown markdown project.CVE-2026-61632 · Other software · facelessuser · reported by GitHubMedium 5.3

PyMdown Extensions is a set of extensions for the Python-Markdown markdown project. In versions up to and including 10.21.3, the b64 extension is vulnerable to a path traversal that discloses arbitrary files: it inlines images referenced by <img src="..."> by joining the src onto the configured base_path with os.path.normpath and opening the result directly, without verifying that the resolved path stays inside base_path. As a result, an src containing ../ sequences or an absolute path reads a file outside base_path as long as it has an allowed image extension (.png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .svg), and the file's contents are then base64-encoded into the rendered output, disclosing them. An application that renders untrusted Markdown with pymdownx.b64 enabled can therefore leak the contents of image-extension files readable by the process to whoever controls the Markdown or views the output, a targeted file-read bounded by the extension check. This issue has been fixed in version 11.0.

  • Jul 28, 2026Pivotick’s Markdown node-reference renderer failed to HTML-escape the attacker-controlled nodeName value before interpolating it into both the data-node-name atCVE-2026-66921 · Other software · pivotick · reported by 5a6e4751-2f3f-4070-9419-94fb35b644e8Medium 6.3

Pivotick’s Markdown node-reference renderer failed to HTML-escape the attacker-controlled nodeName value before interpolating it into both the data-node-name attribute and the body of a generated <span> element. Because the node-reference tokenizer rejected only square brackets, a crafted node name could still contain quotation marks, angle brackets, or other HTML metacharacters. An attacker could therefore terminate the quoted attribute or inject additional HTML elements and event-handler attributes. When malicious node-reference content is rendered by a consumer that does not apply DOMPurify or equivalent sanitization, arbitrary JavaScript may execute in the victim’s browser in the security context of the application. Successful exploitation requires a victim to open or render a crafted graph or note and could allow the attacker to access same-origin information, modify displayed content, or perform actions using the victim’s session. The patch resolves the issue by applying context-appropriate HTML escaping to node names before inserting them into either HTML text or quoted attribute values. The shared escaping function now encodes ampersands, angle brackets, and both types o

  • Jul 13, 2026HedgeDoc is an open source, real-time collaborative markdown notes application.CVE-2026-58489 · Other software · hedgedoc · reported by GitHubMedium 6.8

HedgeDoc is an open source, real-time collaborative markdown notes application. Prior to 1.11.0, the GitHub Gist export flow created an OAuth2  state  value but only checked that it was present rather than validating it against the value expected for the user's session. Because the state was not properly validated, an attacker could forge a callback URL containing their own valid GitHub OAuth code. When processing the callback, HedgeDoc used the victim's logged-in session to select which note to export, but the attacker's authorization code to determine which GitHub account received it. As a result, a logged-in victim who clicked a crafted link could export their own private, protected, or limited note directly into a Gist controlled by the attacker. HedgeDoc is an open source, real-time, collaborative, markdown notes application. Prior to version 1.11.0, HedgeDoc was vulnerable to a YAML alias bomb due to unsafe processing of the note frontmatter. HedgeDoc parsed frontmatter with js-yaml.load (js-yaml v3) via @hedgedoc/meta-marked, which resolved YAML anchor aliases. A compact malicious payload could therefore expand into a huge object structure, consuming excessive CPU. This expansion ran on every request to the publish view (/s/<shortid>) and, when placed under the opengraph key, the editor view (/<noteId>). A ten-level alias bomb could block the single Node.js event loop for roughly 235 seconds per request, causing concurrent requests to hang or drop and rendering the instance unavailable (DoS). Because the note was stored in the database, the impact survived process restarts until the note was removed. toobusy-js did not reliably mitigate the worst cases, as the event loop was saturated before the middleware could respond. This issue was fixed in version 1.11.0.

HedgeDoc is an open source, real-time, collaborative, markdown notes application. Versions prior to 1.11.0 allowed attackers to circumvent the rate-limiting of the /login and /register routes by spoofing IP addresses. HedgeDoc instances checked for CloudFlare's cf-connecting-ip header and used that instead of the users real IP address, if the header was present even when the request did not originate from Cloudflare. HedgeDoc is an open source, real-time, collaborative, markdown notes application. Prior to version 1.11.0, due to unsafe handling of the local-part of registered email addresses, HedgeDoc was vulnerable to stored HTML Injection through its publish and slide views. An attacker could register a specially crafted email address and inject arbitrary HTML into pages viewed by other users. HedgeDoc accepted RFC 5321 quoted-string local-parts in email addresses during registration. The local-part was then reused as the user's display name without escaping and rendered into HTML in multiple places, including publish and slide views as well as the collaborative editor. An attacker could break out of an HTML attribute and inject arbitrary markup into the page. While the deployed Content-Security-Policy prevented straightforward inline JavaScript execution, the injected HTML was still sufficient to alter page content and embed attacker-controlled resources such as cross-origin iframes. A Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) protection bypass existed in the html_to_markdown expansion module of misp-modules. The module attempts to prevent requests to loopback, private, link-local, and other restricted IP address ranges. However, IP addresses were compared against the blocked ranges without first normalising IPv4-mapped IPv6 addresses. An authenticated attacker able to invoke the module could supply an IPv4-mapped IPv6 address, such as: http://[::ffff:127.0.0.1]/ http://[::ffff:169.254.169.254]/ Alternatively, the attacker could use a hostname that resolves to an IPv4-mapped IPv6 address. These addresses were treated as IPv6 addresses and therefore did not match the corresponding blocked IPv4 ranges. Successful exploitation could cause the misp-modules server to connect to services available through its loopback interface, internal network, or link-local network. This could expose internal web services, administrative interfaces, or cloud instance metadata, with retrieved content potentially returned to the attacker as converted Markdown. The vulnerability has been addressed by normalising IPv4-mapped IPv6 addresses to their underlying IPv4 representation before

  • Jul 8, 2026Mistune is a Python Markdown parser with renderers and plugins.CVE-2026-59924 · Other software · lepture · reported by GitHubMedium 5.9

Mistune is a Python Markdown parser with renderers and plugins. Prior to 3.3.0, Include.parse() joins and normalizes user-supplied include paths without verifying that the result remains within the intended markdown directory, allowing crafted include paths to access files outside that directory when markdown files are processed using md.read(). This issue is fixed in version 3.3.0.

  • Jul 8, 2026Grav before 2.0.0 (affected through 2.0.0-rc.9 and the 2.0 branch) contains a stored CSS injection vulnerability in the Markdown image resize() media action.CVE-2026-58657 · Other software · Grav · reported by VulnCheckMedium 4.8

Grav before 2.0.0 (affected through 2.0.0-rc.9 and the 2.0 branch) contains a stored CSS injection vulnerability in the Markdown image resize() media action. Prior media hardening rejects direct ?style= payloads and unsafe attribute() fallbacks, but the resize() action in Excerpts::processMediaActions() writes caller-controlled values directly into the image's styleAttributes. A lower-privileged content editor who can edit page Markdown can store a crafted image URL with semicolon-delimited CSS declarations in the resize parameters, which are rendered into the final <img style=...> attribute when a higher-privileged reviewer/admin views the page or preview. This does not require JavaScript execution but enables UI redress/overlay and content-manipulation attacks (e.g., a full-viewport fixed overlay). Fixed in 2.0.0.

  • Jul 6, 2026The OpenAI Codex desktop app for macOS rendered remote images from Markdown in model responses.CVE-2026-14898 · Other software · OpenAI · reported by 8f4f43ab-ba69-4d92-aa1d-d772184d6fb7Medium 6.5

The OpenAI Codex desktop app for macOS rendered remote images from Markdown in model responses. An attacker who could place an indirect prompt injection in content processed by Codex, such as a connected-tool result or another untrusted source, could induce the model to construct a remote image URL containing sensitive data. The app automatically fetched that URL when rendering the response, sending the embedded data to an attacker-controlled server without a separate user click. Successful exploitation could exfiltrate secrets and other information accessible in the Codex session, including API keys, source code, and data returned by connected tools. No direct integrity or availability impact was demonstrated, and there is no known exploitation in the wild.

  • Jun 29, 2026Uncontrolled Recursion vulnerability in leandrocp mdex allows denial of service via deeply nested Markdown input.CVE-2026-54888 · Other software · leandrocp · reported by 6b3ad84c-e1a6-4bf7-a703-f496b71e49dbMedium 6.9

Uncontrolled Recursion vulnerability in leandrocp mdex allows denial of service via deeply nested Markdown input. mdex converts between an Elixir %MDEx.Document{} struct and Comrak's internal AST using two mutually recursive Rust functions, ex_document_to_comrak_ast and comrak_ast_to_ex_document, in the NIF source file document.rs. Neither function enforces a maximum nesting depth, so the recursion depth is bounded only by the structure of the input. An attacker who can get a Markdown document rendered (for example through MDEx.parse_document!/1 or MDEx.to_html/1) can supply a document with thousands of nested block quotes, which drives unbounded recursion across the NIF boundary and exhausts the native C stack. Because the resulting stack overflow is an uncatchable SIGSEGV raised inside a NIF, it cannot be contained by the Erlang runtime. It terminates the operating system process running the BEAM, killing every Elixir and Erlang process on the node, not just the caller that triggered the render. No authentication or special privileges are required. The vulnerable conversion code was extracted from mdex into the separate mdex_native package starting in mdex 0.12.3. This issue a

  • Jun 24, 2026Mistune is a Python Markdown parser with renderers and plugins.CVE-2026-49851 · Other software · lepture · reported by GitHubHigh 8.7

Mistune is a Python Markdown parser with renderers and plugins. Prior to 3.3.0, Mistune is vulnerable to a CPU exhaustion DoS due to superlinear (approximately O(n²)) behavior in parse_link_text. When parsing Markdown containing many consecutive [ characters, parse_link_text repeatedly scans the input using a regex search inside a loop. Each iteration re-scans a large portion of the remaining string, resulting in quadratic-time behavior. An attacker-controlled Markdown input can therefore trigger excessive CPU usage with a very small payload. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.3.0.

  • Jun 17, 2026markdown-it is a Markdown parser.CVE-2026-48988 · Other software · markdown-it · reported by GitHubMedium 5.3

markdown-it is a Markdown parser. Versions 14.1.1 and below contain a denial-of-service vulnerability when typographer: true is enabled, due to quadratic (O(n^2)) processing in the smartquotes rule. The issue stems from repeatedly modifying strings with replaceAt(), which performs O(n) slicing and concatenation per quote character. This can cause excessive CPU consumption when parsing quote-heavy, user-supplied markdown and may let attackers degrade or disrupt service availability. Although typographer is disabled by default, many production apps enable it for smart typography, making the issue relevant. This issue has been fixed in version 14.2.0.
