  • Oct 8, 2026A path traversal vulnerability exists in Bower decompress-zip through version 0.3.3.CVE-2026-107709 · Other software · Bower Decompress-Zip · reported by cret@cert.orgHigh 7.8

A path traversal vulnerability exists in Bower decompress-zip through version 0.3.3. The vulnerability located in `lib/decompress-zip.js` improperly validates archive entry paths during ZIP extraction. A crafted ZIP archive containing entries that resolve to prefix-sibling directories can cause files to be written outside the intended extraction directory. Successful exploitation may allow arbitrary file overwrite, application compromise, or remote code execution depending on the target environment and writable sibling paths.

  • Oct 6, 2026yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java.CVE-2026-106453 · Other software · yawkat · reported by GitHubMedium 5.3

yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java. Prior to 1.11.2, LZ4DecompressorWithLength uses getDecompressedLength to trust the four-byte decompressed-length header before validating the compressed input, allowing a five-byte attacker-supplied input whose header declares a large output size to request up to approximately 2 GiB and exhaust the JVM heap. Convenience overloads backed by LZ4FastDecompressor or LZ4SafeDecompressor allocate the untrusted size, while overloads that write to a caller-provided destination buffer are not affected because the caller controls the destination size. This issue is fixed in version 1.11.2.

yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java. Prior to 1.11.2, net.jpountz.lz4.LZ4BlockInputStream refill() validates that the compressedLen field in a legacy LZ4Block header is nonnegative but allocates a compressed-input buffer of that attacker-controlled size before reading payload data, allowing a header-only stream to request a near-2 GiB allocation and exhaust the JVM heap. Canonical writers emit raw blocks when compression is not smaller than the original block, but vulnerable readers accept non-canonical oversized compressed blocks. This issue is fixed in version 1.11.2.

  • Oct 6, 2026yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java.CVE-2026-106451 · Other software · yawkat · reported by GitHubHigh 7.3

yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java. From 1.7.0 until 1.11.4, net.jpountz.util.Native.load() uses File.createTempFile to create an exclusive temporary .lck file but derives the native-library path by removing the suffix, then FileOutputStream opens that predictable path without exclusive creation, allowing another local user with access to the same shared temporary directory to create or replace the library file before System.load() uses it. Successful exploitation depends on shared-directory permissions, host protections, and winning the race, and can execute native code as the victim; hardened systems may instead cause library loading to fail and fall back to Java implementations. Configurations using a system library, a private java.io.tmpdir, or Java-only implementations are not affected. This issue is fixed in version 1.11.4.

  • Oct 6, 2026yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java.CVE-2026-106450 · Other software · yawkat · reported by GitHubMedium 5.3

yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java. Prior to 1.11.4, net.jpountz.lz4.LZ4FrameInputStream readHeader() allocates two new 4 MiB block buffers whenever a maximum-block-size frame header is read, and the default concatenated-frame mode allows attacker-controlled streams containing many minimal empty frames to trigger roughly 8 MiB of allocation for every 11 input bytes. The stream produces no decompressed output while consuming CPU and garbage-collection time, so decompressed-size limits do not mitigate the issue; readSingleFrame mode is not affected. This issue is fixed in version 1.11.4.

yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java. Prior to 1.11.4, net.jpountz.lz4.LZ4BlockInputStream configured with stopOnEmptyBlock set to false handles each well-formed empty LZ4Block by recursively calling refill(), allowing a long sequence of empty blocks in an attacker-controlled compressed stream to exhaust the decoding thread's stack and throw StackOverflowError. • Sep 29, 2026compress provides various compression algorithms.CVE-2026-63209 · Other software · klauspost · reported by GitHubHigh 7.5

compress provides various compression algorithms. Prior to version 1.18.7, a signed integer overflow vulnerability in s2.NewDict() allows an attacker to bypass repeat index validation by supplying a dictionary with a uvarint-encoded repeat value exceeding MaxInt64. When Dict.Encode() is subsequently called, the overflowed negative repeat value causes an out-of-bounds memory access via unsafe.Pointer arithmetic, crashing the process with SIGSEGV. This issue has been patched in version 1.18.7.

  • Sep 28, 2026The decompress package for Node.js extracts archives.CVE-2026-101894 · Other software · XhmikosR · reported by GitHubCritical 9.1

The decompress package for Node.js extracts archives. Prior to 10.2.2 and 11.1.4, the default decompress(input, output) API relies on lexical containment checks that do not account for the kernel following a planted symlink chain. An attacker can supply a crafted archive containing chained symlink entries so that a later entry resolves outside the output directory. This allows files outside output to be read or written, and overwriting startup scripts or configuration can lead to remote code execution. The maintained @xhmikosr/decompress package is fixed in 10.2.2 and 11.1.4, but the separately affected unmaintained decompress package remains unpatched through 4.2.1. This vulnerability results from a bypass of the incomplete hardening for CVE-2026-53486. @xhmikosr/decompress is fixed in versions 10.2.2 and 11.1.4.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: erofs: disable LZ4 rolling decompression for now LZ4 rolling decompression [1] was introduced to reduce the memory footprint of temporary pages: For many cases, it is needed for users to read small data within a compressed extent (pcluster), either due to random small read, or since uptodate folios (typically order-0) cannot be reused for decompression again since decompression algorithm refills already-uptodate folios. Rolling decompression works because LZ4 is LZ77-based and only refers to the most recent 64 KiB of decompressed data, so in theory only a bounded rolling window of temporary pages is needed when decompressing. It can save a lot of temporary memory, e.g. 601,960-byte data can be compressed into a 256k LZ4 compressed extent, which means it needs 146 extra pages per request in the worst case if rolling decompression is disabled. However, the upstream LZ4 implementation is not under EROFS' control: For example, the literal copy memmove() may still **copy long literals backward** on x86 based on the address comparison even when the source and destination ranges do not overlap (IOWs, inline

  • Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: sprd: validate compress buffer sizes against fixed allocations sprd_platform_compr_oCVE-2026-97910 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 7.8

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: sprd: validate compress buffer sizes against fixed allocations sprd_platform_compr_open() allocates the stage 0 IRAM buffer (32K data area) and the stage 1 DDR buffer (2M data area) with fixed sizes, but sprd_platform_compr_copy() derives all copy lengths from the user controlled runtime->fragment_size and the write() count, never comparing them against the physical buffer sizes. The compress core only checks fragment_size * fragments for an u32 overflow in snd_compress_check_input(), so a local user can configure a logical buffer of up to ~4GB via SNDRV_COMPRESS_SET_PARAMS, far exceeding the fixed allocations. A fragment_size larger than the 32K IRAM data area makes the stage 0 copy_from_user() overflow past the IRAM allocation, and a buffer_size larger than the 2M DDR buffer makes the wrapping copy at the end of sprd_platform_compr_copy() write fully user controlled data past the buffer. No SNDRV_PCM_TRIGGER_START is needed, a write() in SETUP state reaches the copy callback directly. Reject parameters that do not fit into the fixed buffers in set_params(), and fix the advertised max fragment size: 128K

An authenticated remote attacker with ownership of any configured domain can supply absolute or otherwise out-of-scope file paths in the listOfFiles JSON property, together with attacker-controlled basePath and compressedFileName values, in a method=compress request. Because the application validates only domain ownership and does not canonicalize or restrict these paths to the authorized site directory, the backend appends them to zip or tar archive commands and executes them as the website externalApp user, allowing disclosure of arbitrary readable files through the generated archive.

  • Sep 21, 2026The CompressionFilter class uses ZLib to deflate and inflate data sent and received.CVE-2026-47321 · Websites & servers · Apache Software Foundation · reported by security@apache.orgHigh 7.5

The CompressionFilter class uses ZLib to deflate and inflate data sent and received. When we inflate incoming data, the filter does not control the resulting size, and create a buffer no matter what. Some compressed data may have a compression ration greater than 1 thousand, leading to an exhaustion of the application memory, as we don't control the deflated size. The fix adds such a control by allowing the application developer to provide a fixed size limit, which when reached throws an exception. It also allows the user to provide a compression ratio that should not be exceeded, protected the application from small inflated files that inflate in gigantic files, but with a grace limit for the resulting size (1Mb) to avoid false positive (like a very small file inflating with a high ratio, but resulting with a acceptable size, like a few thousands bytes) For application using this feature, it is highly recommended to create the CompressionFilter and to pass the maximum limit as a forth constructor parameter, maxDecompressedSize: public CompressionFilter(final boolean compressInbound, final boolean compressOutbound, final int compressionLevel, final int maxDecompressedS

LMDeploy is a toolkit for compressing, deploying, and serving large language models. Starting in version 0.9.2 and prior to version 0.16.0, LMDeploy's PyTorch DistServe/PD-disaggregation control plane used `recv_pyobj()` to deserialize messages received through a ZeroMQ PULL socket. PyZMQ implements `recv_pyobj()` using Python pickle deserialization, which can execute arbitrary code while reconstructing an object. The peer address used by the receiver was supplied through the `POST /distserve/p2p_connect` HTTP endpoint. An attacker who could reach an affected DistServe API server could cause the server to connect to an attacker-controlled ZeroMQ endpoint and deserialize a crafted pickle payload. API-key authentication is not enabled unless the operator explicitly configures it. As a result, affected DistServe deployments without API keys allowed unauthenticated remote code execution with the privileges of the LMDeploy serving process. This issue affects the PyTorch backend when PD-disaggregation/DistServe is enabled. Ordinary deployments that do not use the affected disaggregated-serving path do not expose this data flow. The fix was released in LMDeploy 0.16.0. Users who cannot up

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ntfs: fix off-by-one page overflow in ntfs_decompress() The per-token range check in ntfs_decompress() uses if (cb >= cb_sb_end || dp_addr > dp_sb_end) break; so dp_addr == dp_sb_end falls through to the symbol copy `*dp_addr++ = *cb++`, writing one byte past the destination page. Since NTFS_SB_SIZE == PAGE_SIZE the destination is a single page, so the byte lands in the adjacent page, and *dest_ofs is left one past the sub-block end (the later `*dest_ofs &= ~PAGE_MASK` then yields 1, not 0, so the page is never finalized and later sub-blocks keep writing further past it). A corrupted compressed $DATA attribute thus produces a bounded run of out-of-bounds writes when the file is read. Break as soon as dp_addr reaches dp_sb_end; a full sub-block still completes, as its final copy advances dp_addr to exactly dp_sb_end.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: isofs: fix out-of-bounds page array access on empty zisofs block zisofs_uncompress_block()'s empty-block fast path returns pcount << PAGE_SHIFT, ignoring the incoming poffset, unlike the decompression path which returns bytes produced relative to poffset. zisofs_fill_pages() uses that return to advance its page cursor, so when the zisofs block size is below PAGE_SIZE and a sub-page block leaves poffset partway into a page, a following empty block over-counts and advances pages[] one element past its end, after which "if (poffset && *pages)" reads pages[1] out of bounds. rock.c only rejects a block-size shift > 17, so a crafted "ZF" Rock Ridge record can set it below PAGE_SHIFT; the bug is reached by an ordinary read() of a compressed file on such a mounted ISO9660 image. Return the byte count relative to poffset and zero only [poffset, PAGE_SIZE) of the first page, matching the decompression path. The page-aligned case (poffset == 0) is unaffected. • Sep 14, 2026Publishing limits the compressed size of a VSIX (ovsx.publishing.max-content-size, 512 MB by default) but nothing limited how large an entry becomes when openedCVE-2026-89321 · Other software · Eclipse Foundation · reported by emo@eclipse.orgMedium 4.3

Publishing limits the compressed size of a VSIX (ovsx.publishing.max-content-size, 512 MB by default) but nothing limited how large an entry becomes when opened. On the first request to /vscode/unpkg/{namespace}/{extension}/{version}/{path}, WebResourceService opened the entry with ZipFile.getInputStream() and passed the decompressed stream to Files.copy(), which ran to the end of the stream without counting bytes written. The result was cached under java.io.tmpdir, and that cache evicted by entry count (150), not by size, so it placed no bound on disk usage. A publisher with access only to their own namespace could therefore upload a small, highly compressible VSIX and cause the server to write far larger files to the temp filesystem — repeating with different files or versions, since a repeat request is served from the cache. Impact observed: the temp filesystem filled; requests for files not already cached returned 500 with No space left on device; a failed extraction left a partial cache file that blocked later attempts at that path; publishing failed with Failed to read extension file. Metadata and already-cached files kept working, and the server did not stop.

Sashiko drove by and reported [1] a couple of zram issues: a possible BUG_ON() in zlib code due to missing winbits range validation and one possible NULL-ptr dereference in zcomp. Both are low risk yet still worth fixing. This patch (of 2): zram_destroy_comps() resets all compressors and leaves them set to NULL, including the primary one, which is invalid device state, as now comp_algorithm_show()->strcmp() can be called on a NULL compressor. Set default primary compressor in zram_destroy_comps().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/ntfs3: fix info-leak on partial LZNT decompress in ni_read_frame() ni_read_frame() decompresses an LZNT $DATA frame into the vmapped target pages and then trusts decompress_lznt()'s return value: unc_size = decompress_lznt(frame_ondisk, ondisk_size, frame_mem, frame_size); if ((ssize_t)unc_size < 0) err = unc_size; else if (!unc_size || unc_size > frame_size) err = -EINVAL; decompress_lznt() stops as soon as the compressed stream is exhausted (e.g. a zero chunk header) and returns the number of bytes it actually wrote, which may be far less than frame_size. The bytes between unc_size and frame_size are never written. The only memset() that follows zeroes the region beyond i_valid; when the frame lies entirely within the file's valid size that memset() does not run, so the gap retains whatever was in the just-vmapped pages. All pages are then marked uptodate and returned to userspace, disclosing uninitialized (recently-freed) kernel page memory. A crafted compressed file whose stream decompresses to only a few bytes leaks the remainder of every frame on a plain read(

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: iaa - unmap dst before software fallback on decompress On a hardware analytics error, decompress retries through the software fallback, which writes req->dst with the CPU while it is still mapped DMA_FROM_DEVICE. With SWIOTLB active the later dma_unmap_sg() copies the stale bounce buffer over req->dst, corrupting the result. Unmap before the fallback runs. The async path unmaps inline; the sync path signals the retry with -EAGAIN so iaa_comp_adecompress() runs the fallback after unmapping.

  • Sep 11, 2026Headroom compresses data before the data reaches a large language model.CVE-2026-71416 · Other software · headroomlabs-ai · reported by GitHubHigh 8.8

Headroom compresses data before the data reaches a large language model. Prior to version 0.35.0, the Headroom WebSocket server does not validate the `Origin` header of incoming client WebSocket requests before forwarding the request to the upstream server, allowing malicious WebSocket clients to perform arbitrary LLM requests without authentication. This can be exploited by a malicious WebSocket client executed in a traditional or headless browser such as lightpanda, if the browser has access to the Headroom proxy and the OpenAI API key is stored in the `OPENAI_API_KEY` environment variable. Version 0.35.0 fixes the issue.

compression is a Node.js and Express compression middleware. In versions before 1.8.2, when a client aborts the connection while a compressed response is still being sent, the zlib stream created to compress that response is never destroyed, so each aborted compressed response leaks its native zlib memory. A remote unauthenticated attacker can repeatedly open requests and disconnect early, exhausting the available memory and crashing the server. All applications using compression are affected. The issue is fixed in compression 1.8.2, and users should upgrade to 1.8.2 or later.

  • Sep 10, 2026Transmute is a free, open-source, self-hosted file conversion and compression tool.CVE-2026-54054 · Other software · transmute-app · reported by GitHubMedium 6.5

Transmute is a free, open-source, self-hosted file conversion and compression tool. Prior to version 1.3.0, Transmute's URL import endpoint, `POST /api/files/url`, is vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF). The HTTP downloader used by this endpoint fetches user-supplied URLs with redirects enabled and does not validate whether the target resolves to a public, external address. As a result, an authenticated user (or guest user if they are enabled) may be able to cause the Transmute server to make HTTP requests to internal or cloud-local resources from the server's network position. Because downloaded content is stored and can later be retrieved through `GET /api/files/{id}`, this issue can result in full-read SSRF rather than blind SSRF. This is fixed in version 1.3.0.
