In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: validate new EOF for insert range smb3_insert_range() does not check if the new file size (i_size + len) is valid. This allows FALLOC_FL_INSERT_RANGE to bypass RLIMIT_FSIZE, exceed s_maxbytes, or produce a size outside the loff_t range. Use check_add_overflow() to calculate the new EOF. Validate it with inode_newsize_ok() before modifying the file. Reproducer, using a file on a CIFS mount: bash -c ' FILE=/mnt/cifs/repro trap "" SIGXFSZ ulimit -f 3072 # RLIMIT_FSIZE = 3 MiB # A regular write is stopped at 3 MiB. dd if=/dev/zero of="$FILE" bs=1M count=4 status=none stat -c "size after write: %s" "$FILE" # Insert 2 MiB into a 2 MiB file. truncate -s 2M "$FILE" fallocate -i -o 0 -l 2M "$FILE" stat -c "size after insert: %s" "$FILE" ' Before this change, the regular write stops at the 3 MiB limit, but insert range grows the file to 4 MiB: dd: error writing '/mnt/cifs/repro': File too large size after write: 3145728 size after insert: 4194304 After this change, insert range also fails at the limit and leaves the 2 MiB file unchanged: dd: error writing '/mnt/cifs/repro':

  • Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: validate new EOF for zero range When FALLOC_FL_ZERO_RANGE is used without FALLCVE-2026-98126 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: validate new EOF for zero range When FALLOC_FL_ZERO_RANGE is used without FALLOC_FL_KEEP_SIZE, smb3_zero_range() may extend EOF without checking RLIMIT_FSIZE, allowing the file to grow beyond the caller's file-size limit. Fix this by calling inode_newsize_ok() before sending the zero-range request when the operation would extend EOF. Reproducer, using a file on a CIFS mount: bash -c ' FILE=/mnt/cifs/repro trap "" SIGXFSZ ulimit -f 3072 truncate -s 2M "$FILE" fallocate --zero-range -o 0 -l 4M "$FILE" echo "fallocate rc=$?" stat -c "file size=%s" "$FILE" ' Before this change, the operation succeeds despite the 3 MiB limit: fallocate rc=0 file size=4194304 After this change, fallocate fails and leaves the file at 2 MiB.

  • Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: fix stale page cache in insert/collapse range smb3_insert_range() and smb3_colCVE-2026-98125 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: fix stale page cache in insert/collapse range smb3_insert_range() and smb3_collapse_range() use truncate_pagecache_range() to invalidate the affected page cache. However, if off or old_eof is not page-aligned, the boundary pages are only partially zeroed and remain uptodate. As a result, the client may return stale data after a successful insert/collapse range operation. For example, with 4K pages: page 0 page 1 page 2 0------4K 4K------8K 8K------12K ^ ^ off=2K old_eof=10K Page 1 is removed from the page cache, while the boundary pages are only partially zeroed. After COPYCHUNK moves the data on the server, these cached pages may still return stale data. This can be reproduced on a CIFS mount: bash -c ' FILE=/mnt/scratch/repro # Use a 6 KiB file so EOF is not page-aligned. dd if=/dev/urandom of=/tmp/src bs=1K count=6 status=none # Expected: a 4 KiB hole followed by the original data. rm -f /tmp/expected truncate -s 4K /

  • Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: invalidate fscache for fallocate range operations smb3_zero_range(), smb3_puncCVE-2026-98124 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: invalidate fscache for fallocate range operations smb3_zero_range(), smb3_punch_hole(), smb3_insert_range(), and smb3_collapse_range() modify file contents through server-side range operations. These operations discard the affected page cache, but leave the FS-Cache cookie valid, so a later read may return data cached before the range operation. Fix this by invalidating FS-Cache after outstanding I/O has completed and before modifying the file on the server. Run the following as root on a CIFS mount with fsc enabled and an active CacheFiles backend: bash -c ' MNT=/mnt/cifs FILE="$MNT/repro" # Generate four 1 MiB random blocks: [A][B][C][D]. dd if=/dev/urandom of=/tmp/src bs=1M count=4 status=none # Expected contents after zeroing B: [A][zero][C][D]. cp /tmp/src /tmp/expected dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/expected bs=1M seek=1 count=1 \ conv=notrunc status=none cp /tmp/src "$FILE" # Populate FS-Cache, then discard the page cache.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: safely drain sessions during logoff SMB3 multichannel allows requests for one session to run on multiple connections. Wait for all channels bound to a session before freeing shared session objects. A deferred byte-range lock remains counted as a running request and only wakes when its file closes. Wake blocked locks during the drain without unpublishing or modifying their file objects. Synchronous CANCEL requests must invoke their cancellation callback to wake pending operations, while CHANGE_NOTIFY completion remains specific to the asynchronous path. Serialize session teardown with channel registration and previous-session cleanup, and use atomic work-state transitions so LOGOFF, CANCEL, and connection teardown invoke cancellation callbacks only once.

  • Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: reject short READ responses in CIFSSMBRead() CIFSSMBRead() reads DataLengthHiCVE-2026-97565 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: reject short READ responses in CIFSSMBRead() CIFSSMBRead() reads DataLengthHigh, DataLength and DataOffset out of the READ_RSP returned by the server without first checking that a whole READ_RSP was actually received. The length of the response is recorded in rsp_iov.iov_len, but nothing constrains it to be at least read_rsp_size before those fields are dereferenced. A malicious or compromised SMB1 server can return a response shorter than the READ_RSP header, so that parsing the header itself reads past the end of the receive buffer. SMB1 is not negotiated by default; reaching this code requires an explicit vers=1.0 mount. Reject the response unless it is at least read_rsp_size bytes long.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: reject userspace cifs.idmap descriptions cifs.idmap key descriptions carry authority-bearing fields (owner and group SIDs and uid/gid values in "os:"/"gs:"/"oi:"/"gi:" form) that the cifs.idmap upcall helper treats as kernel-originating inputs. Unlike its sibling cifs.spnego, the cifs.idmap key type has no vet_description hook, so userspace can create keys of this type through request_key(2)/add_key(2) and supply those fields without CIFS origin. A request_key(2) call with a non-NULL callout then drives a root usermodehelper upcall (/sbin/request-key -> cifs.idmap) that consumes the unvetted description in root context. Only accept cifs.idmap descriptions while CIFS is using its private root_cred to request the key. id_to_sid()/sid_to_id() already run under override_creds(root_cred), so the kernel-originated path is unaffected. This mirrors commit 3da1fdf4efbc ("smb: client: reject userspace cifs.spnego descriptions"), which applied the same restriction to cifs.spnego.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: reject out-of-bounds DataOffset in CIFSSMBRead() The SMB1 synchronous read helper CIFSSMBRead() validates the server's DataLength against CIFSMaxBufSize and the caller's count, but never validates DataOffset. The copy source is formed as &pSMBr->hdr.Protocol + le16_to_cpu(pSMBr->DataOffset) and memcpy()'d for DataLength bytes with no check that the [DataOffset, DataOffset + DataLength) range lies within the response actually received from the server. A malicious or compromised SMB1 server can return a response carrying an in-range DataLength and a large DataOffset, driving the source pointer past the end of the response buffer. The memcpy() then copies adjacent kernel heap into the caller's read buffer (information disclosure), or reads unmapped memory and oopses (denial of service). SMB1 is not negotiated by default; reaching this code requires an explicit vers=1.0 mount. Both DataOffset and the received response length recorded in rsp_iov.iov_len are relative to the start of the SMB header, so reject the response unless DataOffset + DataLength fits within that length, using overflow-safe arith

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: honor forceuid/forcegid when mapping SIDs to uid/gid When the administrator mounts with forceuid or forcegid (uid=/gid= mount options), they expect all files to appear owned by the specified user/group. However, several code paths unconditionally called sid_to_id() to overwrite cf_uid/cf_gid with server-provided values, ignoring the administrator's explicit override: - smb311_posix_info_to_fattr() (stat via POSIX extensions) - cifs_posix_to_fattr() (readdir via POSIX extensions) - parse_sec_desc() (CIFS ACL ownership mapping) This allowed an untrusted server to dictate local file ownership even when the mount was configured to force specific uid/gid values. Fix all three call sites to check CIFS_MOUNT_OVERR_UID and CIFS_MOUNT_OVERR_GID before calling sid_to_id(), following the same pattern already used by cifs_unix_basic_to_fattr() for unix extensions.

  • Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fail DACL rewrite when the new DACL exceeds 64K replace_sids_and_copy_aces() CVE-2026-97559 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fail DACL rewrite when the new DACL exceeds 64K replace_sids_and_copy_aces() and set_chmod_dacl() accumulate the size of the DACL they build in a u16. That accumulator can wrap. validate_dacl() caps num_aces at (dacl_size - sizeof(struct smb_acl)) / 20, i.e. 3276 for a maximally sized DACL, while each rewritten ACE can grow to sizeof(struct smb_ace) (76 bytes) once its SID is replaced with one carrying SID_MAX_SUB_AUTHORITIES sub-authorities. The worst case is therefore sizeof(struct smb_acl) + 3276 * 76 = 248984 bytes, far beyond what a u16 can hold. A wraparound is reached with 863 ACEs. After the wraparound, ndacl_ptr->size becomes meaningless and the offset will point anywhere in the ACE array. As a result, we will see corruption of the DACL, which then gets sent to the server. This is not an out-of-bounds write as the allocation now covers the worst-case expansion, so writes will always go into the buffer. Adjust the code to use a u32 internally and return -EOVERFLOW in the overflow case. The operation must be refused, because a DACL can only hold 2^16-1 bytes on the wire and larger DACLs can

  • Sep 25, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix cifsFileInfo reference leak in deferred close When cifs_close() defers a CVE-2026-97558 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix cifsFileInfo reference leak in deferred close When cifs_close() defers a close, it hands the cifsFileInfo reference of the closing struct file to the queued work. Each execution of smb2_deferred_work_close() drops one such reference. deferred_close_scheduled can be false while the work is pending: the workqueue clears PENDING when the callback starts to run, before the callback clears the flag under deferred_lock. A close in that interval requeues the running work, and the callback then clears the flag, leaving the requeued work pending with the flag down. A later cifs_open() can reuse the handle and its cifs_close() reaches the same branch: queue_delayed_work() fails because the work is still pending, but cifs_close() returns without dropping the closing file's reference. The cifsFileInfo count stays pinned and its tlink, dentry and server handle are leaked. Check the return value and hand off the reference only when work was actually queued. Otherwise, use the shared _cifsFileInfo_put(), like the mod_delayed_work() branch above: the pending execution already owns its reference. This issue wa

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: avoid leaking refcount in cifs_queue_oplock_break() cifs_queue_oplock_break() unconditionally takes a reference on the target file before queueing cifs_oplock_break(). Only that work item decreases the reference counter again. If another oplock break arrives while that work is still queued, queue_work() will return false and not queue this second work item. As a result, we will never reach the point to drop the file reference again and are leaking this reference. This can be triggered when interacting with a slow-responding server. As a result, later unmount operations for this file system will fail with BUG: Dentry ... still in use (1) [unmount of cifs cifs] VFS: Busy inodes after unmount of cifs (cifs) kernel BUG at fs/super.c:777! Fix this by only incrementing the reference count if the work has been queued successfully. Taking it after queue_work() is safe because all three callers hold tcon->open_file_lock across the call and _cifsFileInfo_put() decrements under that same lock, so a worker that starts the handler in the window cannot drop the reference before it has been taken.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix heap overflow in DACL owner/group rewrite When id_mode_to_cifs_acl rewrites an existing DACL, it allocates a buffer sized according to the on-disk DACL length reported by dacl_ptr->size. However, replace_sids_and_copy_aces may rewrite each ACE with a new owner/group SID obtained from the cifs.idmap upcall. Those SIDs can have up to SID_MAX_SUB_AUTHORITIES (15) sub-authorities, making each ACE up to 76 bytes (sizeof(struct smb_ace)). If the original DACL contains short SIDs (e.g., 1 sub-authority) while the replacement SIDs are long, the rewritten ACEs overflow the allocation. Fix this by always budgeting for worst-case SID expansion: allocate sizeof(struct smb_acl) plus num_aces * sizeof(struct smb_ace), which covers the smb_acl header and room for every ACE at maximum SID size. This replaces the previous split logic that used dacl_ptr->size for cifsacl mounts but num_aces * sizeof(struct smb_ace) for mode_from_sid mounts: both paths can trigger the same rewrite and need the same headroom. The uninitialized stack memory in parsed.owner and parsed.group is then passed to sid_to_id(), which processes the garbage bytes and passes them to request_key() to construct a SID string, potentially leaking kernel stack contents to the userspace idmap daemon. Fix this by checking the return value and skipping the SID-to-id mapping when parsing fails. The remaining fattr fields (timestamps, mode, etc.) are populated directly from the 'info' pointer so they are unaffected.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix races in cifsd thread creation The cifsd demultiplex thread can run and access tcp_ses before the parent thread has finished populating tcp_ses, which the worker thread accesses locklessly. Also, the kthread_run macro may start the thread before returning the thread pointer. Because the pointer is part of the structure that the thread can access, if the kernel is preempted after the thread is spawned, but before the thread pointer is populated and the thread attempts to exit, it will sleep, waiting for a SIGKILL signal. Fix this by moving creation of the thread to after all of tcp_ses'es fields are populated, and spawning the thread last, using a split kthread_create/wake_up_process logic.

SEEK_HOLE(0) returns EOF, and SEEK_DATA(1M) returns 1M. This happens because a dirty folio spanning the punched range can be written back after the punch and refill the hole. Fix this by flushing and waiting for dirty data in the punched range before invalidating the page cache and issuing FSCTL_SET_ZERO_DATA. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i2c: smbus: reject oversized block transfers in the common path The SMBus block transfer length data->block[0] is validated in i2c_smbus_xfer_emulated() but that check runs too late for tracepoints and is skipped entirely when the adapter provides a native smbus_xfer implementation. This allows user-controlled oversized block lengths to reach tracepoint memcpy calls and driver callbacks unchecked. Add an early validation in __i2c_smbus_xfer() that rejects block transfers whose caller-supplied length is zero or exceeds I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX before any tracepoint fires or driver callback runs. data->block[0] is filled in by the device on SMBus block reads, so the check is scoped to operations where the length is actually supplied by the caller. This is consistent with the existing -EINVAL convention in the emulated path and protects all downstream consumers at once: the smbus_write tracepoint, all native smbus_xfer driver implementations, and the emulated path. Two distinct bugs are fixed by this change: Bug 1: smbus_write tracepoint OOB (include/trace/events/smbus.h) trace_smbus_write() fires before any validat

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix maximum allowed access checks The DACL permission check looks for an ACE matching the current user and falls back to the Everyone ACE. It does not consider an Authenticated Users ACE, even though an authenticated session is a member of that well-known group. As a result, opening a file whose access is granted through S-1-5-11 can incorrectly fail with STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED. Treat an Authenticated Users ACE as a fallback entry alongside Everyone. The maximal access calculation also combines access masks from every ACE, regardless of whether its SID applies to the current user. This can grant rights belonging to an unrelated principal. Process only ACEs applying to the user, Everyone, or Authenticated Users, and accumulate allowed and denied masks in ACL order. Preserve explicitly requested access bits so they are validated against the resulting maximal mask. When ACCESS_SYSTEM_SECURITY is denied, report STATUS_PRIVILEGE_NOT_HELD instead of the generic STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED. Access to the system ACL requires a security privilege that ksmbd does not grant. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: Do not skip lock checks for single-byte ranges check_lock_range() uses inclusive ranges. Its callers pass the end offset as start + length - 1, so start == end represents a valid single-byte range rather than an empty range. The start == end shortcut therefore skips mandatory byte-range lock checks for one-byte reads, writes, copychunk operations and one-byte truncate ranges. A conflicting lock covering that byte is not checked and the operation is allowed to proceed. Remove the shortcut. The truncate size == inode->i_size case is already handled by only calling check_lock_range() when the new size differs from the current file size.

Tearing those CQs down with ib_destroy_cq() frees them without first cancelling that poll work. If the provider posts a completion late -- for example Soft-RoCE (rxe) posting an RNR error from rxe_receiver() after rdma_destroy_qp() -- the handler re-queues ib_cq_poll_work() on the already-freed CQ, and a follow-on access faults in rxe_req_notify_cq(). The error path fell through to smbdirect_connection_destroy_mem_pools() before smbdirect_connection_destroy_qp(), so the mem pools and the recv_io slab cache were destroyed while that recv_io was still outstanding on the QP. The drain in smbdirect_connection_destroy_qp() (ib_drain_qp()) is what runs the recv completion that returns the recv_io to the free list, so destroying the pools first leaves the object outstanding at kmem_cache_destroy() time ("Slab cache still has objects") and later frees it into an already-destroyed mempool (mempool_free_bulk NULL-pointer dereference). Give rdma_accept_failed its own teardown that drains the QP first, then destroys the mem pools, and returns. The remaining labels (post_recv_io_failed onward) run before the recv_io was ever posted, so they keep the mem-pools-then-qp order. The outstanding recv_io at kmem_cache_destroy() time: [ 34

It can then overwrite OPLOCK_CLOSING with OPLOCK_ACK_WAIT and continue a break for a dying opinfo. Make OPLOCK_CLOSING terminal once the opinfo is removed from the inode list. Serialize that transition, pending_break acquisition, and OPLOCK_ACK_WAIT setup with an opinfo state lock. A breaker which loses the race releases its ownership and returns -ENOENT. Explicitly wake pending_break waiters during close so they can observe the terminal state. Also prevent ACK and timeout paths from replacing OPLOCK_CLOSING with OPLOCK_STATE_NONE.

  • Sep 17, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/server: abort initialization when proc setup fails ksmbd_server_init() calls ksmbd_proCVE-2026-90164 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/server: abort initialization when proc setup fails ksmbd_server_init() calls ksmbd_proc_init() before creating the remaining proc entries and server subsystems. ksmbd_proc_init() tears down partial state on a procfs or percpu_counter allocation failure, but returns void, so ksmbd_server_init() continues as if the counters were usable. Once userspace starts the server, server_ctrl_handle_init() calls ksmbd_proc_reset(), which reaches percpu_counter_set() with a NULL per-CPU counters pointer on SMP systems. The later ksmbd_proc_create() calls also receive a NULL parent and may create entries in the /proc root; ksmbd_proc_cleanup() cannot remove those entries because ksmbd_proc_fs is NULL.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/server: call ksmbd_proc_cleanup() on module init failure When a later initializer fails, the unwind chain releases resources created after procfs and then jumps directly to class_unregister(). Returning an error from module_init() leaves the proc tree and its per-CPU counters allocated.

  • Sep 17, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: defer publishing granted locks to prevent UAF/double-free race In smb2_lock(), mid-CVE-2026-90162 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 8.8

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: defer publishing granted locks to prevent UAF/double-free race In smb2_lock(), mid-batch granted locks are published to connection-wide (conn->lock_list) and file-wide (fp->lock_list) lists immediately upon vfs_lock_file() success, while also remaining tracked on the stack-local rollback_list. If a subsequent element in the same SMB2_LOCK request array fails validation or execution, the thread jumps to out: and walks rollback_list to undo previously granted locks. However, because the granted lock was already published to conn->lock_list, a concurrent UNLOCK request on the same connection can find the lock object and kfree() it before the rollback loop executes. When the granting thread subsequently walks rollback_list, it dereferences and frees the already-freed ksmbd_lock structure, resulting in a Use-After-Free and Double-Free (on both ksmbd_lock and struct file_lock). Fix this by deferring the publication of granted locks to conn->lock_list and fp->lock_list until after the entire array of lock elements has been processed without error. Mid-batch grants remain tracked exclusively on the request-loca

  • Sep 17, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: safely discard unregistered deferred locks When vfs_lock_file() defers a lock, smb2CVE-2026-90156 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: safely discard unregistered deferred locks When vfs_lock_file() defers a lock, smb2_lock() puts its ksmbd_lock on rollback_list before allocating and registering the asynchronous work. If either operation fails, rollback assumes that smb_lock->conn is initialized and dereferences NULL. The deferred file_lock also remains linked into the VFS blocked-lock state while it is freed. Keep the lock off rollback_list until async setup succeeds. On setup failures, explicitly unblock and wake the deferred lock before freeing it and its ksmbd wrapper.

  • Sep 17, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: detach blocked lock requests before freeing A file_lock retained by ksmbd for byte-CVE-2026-90155 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: detach blocked lock requests before freeing A file_lock retained by ksmbd for byte-range lock bookkeeping can still be part of the VFS blocked-request graph. In particular, the VFS can chain a new waiter below an already blocked request through flc_blocked_requests. The ksmbd_file reference count does not cover that graph. Both __ksmbd_close_fd() and the cross-request unlock path free these retained file_lock objects directly. If a dependent waiter is still attached, locks_release_private() hits BUG_ON(!list_empty(&flc->flc_blocked_requests)). The same lifetime mismatch can leave a freed ksmbd_lock reachable through its request-local llist. Detach the file_lock from the blocked-request graph before freeing it in the close, cross-request unlock, and rollback paths. locks_delete_block() also wakes requests chained below the object. Remove llist when a completed lock is published so a globally visible ksmbd_lock no longer points into the submitting worker's stack.

  • Sep 17, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: scope session state changes to bound connections ksmbd_all_conn_set_status() treatsCVE-2026-90154 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: scope session state changes to bound connections ksmbd_all_conn_set_status() treats every connection whose transient binding flag is set as belonging to the target SessionId. A logoff or session replacement can consequently move an unrelated connection to NEED_RECONNECT or NEED_SETUP. Pass the target session itself and select connections using either the connection-local session xarray or the session's permanent channel list. Use the same association test while waiting for requests to drain. Serialize session-wide status changes under request_lock and do not overwrite EXITING or RELEASING. Protect the shutdown transition with the same lock so a concurrent session update cannot revive a closing connection.

  • Sep 17, 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: bound smb_check_perm_dacl() ACE walks by DACL size smb_check_perm_dacl() validates CVE-2026-90153 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67High 8.1

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: bound smb_check_perm_dacl() ACE walks by DACL size smb_check_perm_dacl() validates that the DACL fits inside the NT security descriptor, but then bounds its two ACE walks by the remaining NTSD length (acl_size) rather than the DACL's declared size (pdacl_size). When pdacl->size is smaller than the trailing NTSD buffer, bytes after the declared DACL boundary - still inside the stored security descriptor - are parsed as ACEs during access checks. A crafted DACL can place an access-granting ACE beyond pdacl->size, and the current code accepts it during SMB2_CREATE access validation, while parse_dacl() and smb_inherit_dacl() stop at pdacl_size. Bound both ACE walks by pdacl_size to match the DACL boundary semantics used elsewhere in the server. Validation: - semantic KUnit harness shows the post-boundary ACE is selected before the fix and rejected (EACCES) after it - linux master (7.2-rc6), x86_64
