  • Feb 26, 2025In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: printk: Fix signed integer overflow when defining LOG_BUF_LEN_MAX Shifting 1 << 31 on a 32CVE-2024-58017 · Computers, phones & browsers · Linux · reported by 416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67Medium 5.5

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: printk: Fix signed integer overflow when defining LOG_BUF_LEN_MAX Shifting 1 << 31 on a 32-bit int causes signed integer overflow, which leads to undefined behavior. To prevent this, cast 1 to u32 before performing the shift, ensuring well-defined behavior. This change explicitly avoids any potential overflow by ensuring that the shift occurs on an unsigned 32-bit integer.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/tracing: Fix a potential TP_printk UAF The commit afd2627f727b ("tracing: Check "%s" dereference via the field and not the TP_printk format") exposes potential UAFs in the xe_bo_move trace event. Fix those by avoiding dereferencing the xe_mem_type_to_name[] array at TP_printk time. Since some code refactoring has taken place, explicit backporting may be needed for kernels older than 6.10.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tty: fix deadlock caused by calling printk() under tty_port->lock pty_write() invokes kmalloc() which may invoke a normal printk() to print failure message. This can cause a deadlock in the scenario reported by syz-bot below: CPU0 CPU1 CPU2 ---- ---- ---- lock(console_owner); lock(&port_lock_key); lock(&port->lock); lock(&port_lock_key); lock(&port->lock); lock(console_owner); As commit dbdda842fe96 ("printk: Add console owner and waiter logic to load balance console writes") said, such deadlock can be prevented by using printk_deferred() in kmalloc() (which is invoked in the section guarded by the port->lock). But there are too many printk() on the kmalloc() path, and kmalloc() can be called from anywhere, so changing printk() to printk_deferred() is too complicated and inelegant. Therefore, this patch chooses to specify __GFP_NOWARN to kmalloc(), so that printk() will not be calle

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/mediatek: Fix NULL pointer dereference when printing dev_name When larbdev is NULL (in the case I hit, the node is incorrectly set iommus = <&iommu NUM>), it will cause device_link_add() fail and kernel crashes when we try to print dev_name(larbdev). Where this comes from: the exploited list is CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Everything else is the whole National Vulnerability Database, where each record is published by the team that found the bug (Wordfence, Patchstack, WPScan, the vendors themselves and others); we show who. Exploit odds are FIRST’s EPSS, updated daily. Titles and categories are ours, so check the linked record before acting on a detail. For a write-up of the big ones, see our advisories. Every vendor, and every WordPress plugin and theme with a recorded flaw, also has its own page. All of it is free to reuse as JSON, CSV or RSS.
