CVE-2026-55368

h2o is an HTTP server with support for HTTP/1.x, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3.

h2o is an HTTP server with support for HTTP/1.x, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3. Prior to commit 48b7ae12107fd2b118e4641da49599e9aac8edd8, H2O's access-log formatter could write past its log-line buffer when an affected custom access-log format was configured. The allocation errors affected %{error}x, %q when the query string was empty, and numeric elements whose temporary terminating NUL reached the end of the buffer. A matching request could crash the server, while the effect of the one-byte NUL overwrite beyond a crash was not established. This vulnerability is fixed with commit 48b7ae12107fd2b118e4641da49599e9aac8edd8.

What it means for a small business

If your business uses h2o, install the vendor's update. If you're not sure whether you use it, ask whoever manages your computers.

How likely is an attack? The Exploit Prediction Scoring System, run by FIRST (the global association of security response teams), puts the odds of this one being exploited in the next 30 days at 0.32%, higher than 25% of CVEs. That’s low, but low isn’t zero, and the odds jump the day someone publishes an exploit. Scored November 7, 2026, updated daily.

Check your own setup

  • Website check: reads what your site runs from the outside (WordPress version, plugins it can see, old server software) and matches it against this database.
  • Server check: what your web server says about itself, and whether that version has known flaws.
