CVE-2026-116572

FreeSWITCH is an open-source software telecommunications platform.

FreeSWITCH is an open-source software telecommunications platform. From 1.10.0 to 1.11.1, there is a stack-based buffer overflow in  mod_sofia  when processing SIP Contact display names for dialog-event notifications. A peer can establish a dialog containing an excessively long display name and subsequently subscribe to that entity’s dialog events, causing the stored value to overflow a fixed 512-byte stack buffer. Exploitation requires presence management to be enabled, directly or through shared appearance, and normally requires valid profile credentials unless subscription authentication is disabled. The overflow can terminate the FreeSWITCH process and all active calls. This vulnerability is fixed in version 1.11.2.

What it means for a small business

If your business uses freeswitch, install the vendor's update. If you're not sure whether you use it, ask whoever manages your computers.

How likely is an attack? The Exploit Prediction Scoring System, run by FIRST (the global association of security response teams), puts the odds of this one being exploited in the next 30 days at 0.46%, higher than 39% of CVEs. That’s low, but low isn’t zero, and the odds jump the day someone publishes an exploit. Scored November 6, 2026, updated daily.

Check your own setup

  • Website check: reads what your site runs from the outside (WordPress version, plugins it can see, old server software) and matches it against this database.
  • Server check: what your web server says about itself, and whether that version has known flaws.
