  • Mar 20, 2023Custom Content Shortcode: Does not validate one of its shortcode attributeCVE-2023-0340 · affects up to 4.0.2 · reported by WPScanHigh 8.8

The Custom Content Shortcode WordPress plugin through 4.0.2 does not validate one of its shortcode attribute, which could allow users with a contributor role and above to include arbitrary files via a traversal attack. This could also allow them to read non PHP files and retrieve their content. RCE could also be achieved if the attacker manage to upload a malicious image containing PHP code, and then include it via the affected attribute, on a default WP install, authors could easily achieve that given that they have the upload_file capability.

The Custom Content Shortcode WordPress plugin through 4.0.2 does not validate and escape some of its shortcode attributes before outputting them back in a page/post where the shortcode is embed, which could allow users with the contributor role and above to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks

  • Mar 7, 2022Custom Content Shortcode: Does not escape custom fields before outputting themCVE-2021-24826 · fixed in 4.0.2 · reported by WPScanMedium 5.4

The Custom Content Shortcode WordPress plugin before 4.0.2 does not escape custom fields before outputting them, which could allow Contributor+ (v < 4.0.1) or Admin+ (v < 4.0.2) users to perform Cross-Site Scripting attacks even when the unfiltered_html is disallowed. Please note that such attack is still possible by admin+ in single site blogs by default (but won't be when the unfiltered_html is disallowed)

  • Mar 7, 2022Custom Content Shortcode: Does not validate the data passed to its load shortcodeCVE-2021-24825 · fixed in 4.0.2 · reported by WPScanMedium 4.3

The Custom Content Shortcode WordPress plugin before 4.0.2 does not validate the data passed to its load shortcode, which could allow Contributor+ (v < 4.0.1) or Admin+ (v < 4.0.2) users to display arbitrary files from the filesystem (such as logs, .htaccess etc), as well as perform Local File Inclusion attacks as PHP files will be executed. Please note that such attack is still possible by admin+ in single site blogs by default (but won't be when either the unfiltered_html or file_edit is disallowed)
