How much does cybersecurity cost for a small business?

Short answer: Small business cybersecurity ranges from free settings you can turn on today to tens of thousands for a large penetration test. For most local businesses, the protection that matters most costs less than their phone bill.

Free

  • Two-step sign-in on every account.
  • A password manager’s free tier for one person.
  • Correct SPF and DMARC records, if you can set DNS records yourself.
  • Our free checks: website, email, domain, server.

What we charge

  • Domain protection: $29 a month per domain. Expiry, renewal, locks and DNS changes watched.
  • Incident retainer: $199 a month. Your site, domain and email on file, two-hour callback, a yearly lockdown review.
  • Care plan: $249 a month per site. Hosting, monitoring every five minutes, security headers, email security, backups and same-day changes.
  • Fixes to an existing site: from $450, quoted line by line.
  • Incident response without a retainer: from $1,500, fixed price in writing.
  • Security assessments and penetration tests: quoted per scope, in writing, before anything starts.

What changes the price elsewhere

  • How many computers, people and locations are covered (that’s IT and managed security territory).
  • Around-the-clock human monitoring versus automated alerts.
  • Compliance requirements: HIPAA, PCI, SOC 2, CMMC.
  • For testing: how many systems, how deep, and whether a retest is included.

Questions

Is cybersecurity worth it for a small business?

Compare it with one bad day: a wire sent to a scammer, a domain lost to a stranger, a hacked site during the busy season. The basics cost far less than any of those.

Do you have contracts?

Care plans and retainers are monthly. One-time work is quoted in writing before we start.
